Me Ra and Brian bring hands-on instruction teaching you how to capture the southern soul of NOLA! Get ready to capture the signature architecture of the French Quarter! Explore vintage shops and artist works. Then feast on a mash up of Cajun, French, German, Native American (and more) cuisine from amazing Jambalaya to Po-Boys or Cafe Du Monde’s mouth watering beignets. At night, the group will listen to a little jazz and blues (that you’ll also photograph), and maybe you’ll find yourself dancing in the streets with Me Ra and Brian! (stranger things have happened on their tours :)) For the night owls, the group will do some beautiful night photography and editing![/cmsms_text][cmsms_heading type=”h1″ font_weight=”400″ font_style=”normal” text_align=”center” target=”self” margin_top=”0″ margin_bottom=”20″ animation_delay=”0″]TENTATIVE SCHEDULE[/cmsms_heading][cmsms_text animation_delay=”0″]
We say tentative because we want to leave room for magical ideas between now and when we’re there!
FRIDAY: Arrive in time to get settled, unpack your camera and meet up for our first group dinner in New Orleans! Be on the lookout for some great photo moments of the local musicians! We’ll begin the feasting in the French Quarter and afterwards dive into night photography. Dinner included.
SATURDAY: Put on your walking shoes! Start the morning with an early walk through the beautiful city park with hanging moss at Bayou Bridges before artists, street performers and musicians start up their routines. We’re going to explore and capture the quaint architecture, local characters of the French Quarter, and take in the beautiful Garden District. We’ll end our day wandering through the Frenchmen Street Art Market while grabbing a yummy drink and listening to live tunes along the way. That night, we’ll talk about editing tricks to get the best results from your images. We may even try our hands at more night photography! Dinner included.
SUNDAY: We’re considering a brunch this morning with time to share our favorite photos for feedback. We’ll explore anything we missed the day before, and weather depending, possibly shoot the Bayou’s sunset and wildlife. If weather doesn’t cooperate, no worries. There is so much to explore and do in New Orleans, and rain never stops the music! Our biggest challenge will be wanting more time! If your schedule allows, we encourage you to stay Sunday night and fly home Monday. Brunch or dinner included.

One of the things I love most about workshops with Me Ra and Brian is their sense of humor and positivity. They love what they do, and it shows!!!
I’ve learned so much about how to better use my camera during travel which is my top interest.
I’ve especially learned about how to capture “magical light” during sunrise and sunset and capturing the “personality” of a location.
I’ll definitely be taking a future travel workshop!

This is my third workshop with Me Ra and Brian, and for each one of them, they have been hands-on, non-judgemental teachers that make you dare to feel that “YES, I can understand and improve my photography.”
Technical information that so many think they will never understand is presented in easily understood terms.
I can’t wait to take a fourth workshop with them!

I’m a native New Orleanian, and I truly enjoyed this workshop because I was able to view my beautiful city thru the lens in all new ways.
Capturing moments that I take for granted, the music, the people, the spirit of New Orleans was wonderful!

New Orleans is a fantastic US city to photograph. It has fun characteristics of Europe but in the US!
So much to see and photograph, and lots of different people watching.
Weather was great, and our hotel location was awesome!
I liked being able to walk to locations and not have to take a cab or rent a car.
My favorite was learning about the 5 elements to Travel Photography, along with how to better frame my shots.

How to Capture Magical Light
Portrait of NOLA was an amazing time.
I picked up so much information that I can take home with me and practice. It’s all going to make me a better photographer.
On a personal note, I made new friends–including and especially Me Ra and Brian.
I got to know and love them even more.

The value of the Portrait of America series of workshops with Me Ra and Brian cannot be overstated. I highly recommend this to anyone serious about stepping up their photography skills.
Me Ra and Brian are caring, down-to-earth, teachers who invest heavily in their students. They treat each and every one of us as though we were the only concern, the only student.
I came away from my weekend in New Orleans with a new perspective, a new understand of the clear line between a photo that looks like a snapshot and a shot that reveals something about the city, its character. I am so thankful to them as a team for investing in me.
Thank you, Me Ra and Brian…see you at the next workshop that I can work into my schedule!
Love you both!!

This was such a phenomenal weekend! Portrait of NOLA superseded my expectations by far!
I learned so much that I can take home to continue to build on. And I’ve made new friendships that will last well beyond the weekend.
I loved Sunday morning’s sunrise shoot at the cemetery and capturing the street cars.
Thanks Me Ra and Brian! It was great meeting you in person!

I took a Confidence workshop with Me Ra and Brian in 2017, and it was such a fantastic experience that I knew I would love to learn from them again.
I have two young kids and their international travel workshops are not currently feasible for me, so I jumped at the chance to spend a long weekend with Me Ra and Brian in New Orleans.
Portrait of New Orleans far exceeded my expectations. Me Ra and Brian had carefully planned the entire weekend to make sure that we had the quintessential NOLA experience and had ample opportunity to take all the classic New Orleans photos. They had a lot to teach each one of us, no matter what level of photography experience we brought with us to the workshop.
They are fantastic photographers, wonderful teachers, and amazing people.
I took some of my all-time favorite photos during this workshop, and I can’t thank them enough for such an incredible experience!
