The Why Behind This Workshop

Forewarning, I may step on your toes. Is that okay?

Writers are incredibly vulnerable and often sensitive people. Rejection is one of the things we fear most. How do I know? I have been a writer for thirty years.

My first book took me ten years to write and was published over twenty years ago. Since then, I’ve published six books and am getting ready to publish the seventh. I’ve experienced the fear of rejection, exhausting edits, people thinking I’m “all that”, being misunderstood, lots of sales or no sales, the list goes on and on.

I’ve worked with amazing publishers like Random House in NYC who have big marketing teams and dollars. With my latest book, I decided to self-publish. No matter what publishing engine was behind the book, it was critical for me to be fully involved in the launch. Not a few posts on social media the week the book came out, but 3-6 months of strategic planning and executing to honor all the hours, tears and sweat that went into writing that baby. But I’ve seen so many authors choose to do the exact opposite.

A Picture of Orphaned Books

Over the years I’ve prayed about this dynamic a lot. I’ve had countless people tell me their book idea but never start writing. Or I’ve met people who have written their book but never did much to market it. When I was praying about what this is I had a picture of babies being born, like our books, and being left up for adoption.

The authors somehow believed their only job was to grow the baby for 9 months and birth it. But how does a baby learn to walk, talk, and meet people if it’s abandoned? And not only that but the adoptions weren’t happening. I saw orphanages full of abandoned, beautiful, rich books that never made it into homes.

People NEED what we, as writers, haven’t birthed or fully developed.

The unwritten books within us, as well as, the un-marketed books we’ve published are still waiting for us to ACTIVATE.

Three Types of “Writers-in-Waiting”

I have a term for this. It’s “writers-in-waiting”. What is a “writer-in-waiting”? There are three types. Maybe you’ve met one of these types or even identify with this kind of thinking.

1. You feel like there is a book within you to write.

But the idea of writing it, let alone marketing your book is terrifying. So, you’re waiting for the right timing and inspiration to get started. (You’ve been waiting for a long time.)

2. You’re almost done writing your book and have been telling yourself it’s all up to God to make sure it gets into the hands of those who need it.

Yes, that’s true. But the hands He’ll most likely want to use the most are yours. Yet, you don’t plan to do much marketing besides a few posts on social media because your publisher has “promised” to do that for you. When the publisher made these vague guarantees of marketing, you didn’t ask too many questions of clarification because you were relieved, I mean believed, the publisher will do it all for you. (What you don’t realize is that you’re going to be waiting a long time for book sales to happen because you are the BEST person to market your book.)

3. You’ve published a book.

You did a few posts on social media when it came out. Your friends and family congratulated you with a ton of wonderful comments, likes and hearts. But then that was it. You poured your whole heart into this book project. Every feeling you could possibly experience was experienced from feeling unqualified, crazy, vulnerable, prideful, imposter syndrome, and now…a bit forgetful. You never wrote your book for glory or money, but you wonder if it’s meant to reach even more people. That’s why you wrote it…to help people. But is the book’s life over? (You’re waiting for direction to that question. Most days you forget that you’re waiting.)

If I haven’t offended you THIS workshop is for you!

If you’re still reading because you identify with one of those “writers-in-waiting”, Secrets to a Successful Book Launch is for you! The overwhelming anxiety of marketing your book or the fear of your intentions being misunderstood are almost physically painful. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is HOPE!

How Do You Launch Your Book with Success?

Your publisher, whether a big or small one, may have sent you a Word doc or excel spreadsheet with a checklist of all the things to do for marketing your book. I’ve seen a lot of those checklists, and I can tell you from personal experience that half of it won’t make a difference. So, what will help?

Over the last 20+ years, I’ve discovered the secrets to a successful book launch. It’s way too much information for a blog post. And it’s too much for a LIVE Facebook Video. It may even be too much information for a 4 hour, half day workshop, but that’s a solid start! And I’m EXCITED!

I’m going to walk you through strategies traditional and self-publishers don’t know to tell you. This is bold, boot strap kind of stuff when you don’t have a big name or a big marketing budget. These secrets are a collection of things I’ve tried, tested, and gathered over the last two decades.

Even if you implement ONE of the many things I share, Secrets to a Successful Book Launch will give you MORE success than if you didn’t come.

Let’s start the New Year together!
