Grounding Yourself!

Me Ra Koh

What a crazy and amazing week!

The honor of being in the room when Grayer took his first breath has left me speechless. If you haven’t checked out my little nephew’s photos, you must. I’m totally in love!

But it’s good to be home and back with Brian and the kids. The sun is actually out!! Yeah!!!

I’ve been making myself take naps when the kids take naps. My week of three to four hours of sleep is bound to catch up with me even though I’m on a high from seeing Grayer’s birth. 🙂

When I’ve done lots of travel or had to push myself with a project for work, I need to ground myself. On top of napping, I ground myself with cooking. It’s the whole process of cooking that I love. Every thing from going aisle to aisle in the grocery store, as I sink my creativity into what to make for dinner or what type of juicing combination to do in the morning.

Our friend Genie, from the Next Octave, came yesterday to stay for a couple days. Genie is fantastic, you will see more on her later. 🙂 She told us she wants to write her on blog post of what it looks in our home from an outsider’s perspective. I don’t know, may be scary! 🙂

After Genie and I worked out this morning, she made the most amazing greens drink for the family! I had to share because wow, it left me with the most amazing refreshed feeling!

We used the blender and started with Purple Kale.

Then added Parsley, Mint from the Garden, Almonds, Almond Milk, Rice Protein, Just Cranberry Juice, Coconut Water, Fresh Ginger, Frozen Blueberries, and a little Ice.

Voila! Try it!

Anyone else like to juice? If you do, please, please, please share your juicing recipes in the comments!

What other things do you do to ground yourself after a crazy week?

Recipe for the above image:

ISO was at 100 for maximum color saturation.

Aperture was all the way down to a 2.0 for that yummy blur.

Shutter Speed was 1/100 or 100th of a second.

Camera was the Sony/DSLR-A300 (love this camera and the 350–you can’t beat the live preview and color quality on these!)

Where did I take the photo? On my kitchen counter. 😉

Green Smoothies are fun. They really give you an energy boost and strengthen your systems. Here is a link to one of my many concontions: http://eathealthybehappy.blogspot.com/2008/05/green-smoothie.html. Here is a quick recipe for it:
    Ingredients
? 2 large leafs collard greens, washed and torn to smaller pieces
    ? ¼ large cucumber
    ? ½ banana, peeled
? ½ orange, peeled and seeded
    ? ½ avocado
? 2 teaspoons freshly ground flax seed*
    ? 4 oz. water

    Preparation
? Place all ingredients into a blender.
? Mix until all junks are gone and mixture is smooth.

And to relax… grab a book and lose yourself in a field, away from the city and noise… OR spend a day with like-minded people.

Ooooh! Elena!! I can’t wait to try this! Sounds AWESOME!

  4. after three straight days of the stomach flue with no stopping….you lost me on the veggie drink….sorry me ra. 🙂

congrats on napping though….i should try it….in fact…i’m going to right now.

  5. Hi Me Ra! Well it’s crazy because I was thinking the same thing. I am worn to the bone…exhausted from several weeks of insomnia since hubby left. And what I thought was I want to get the girls and I in our PJ’s, cook a mean meal, and curl up and watch some movies. For me the cooking is a big deal, because I am not the chef in the house. And since now I HAVE to be, well let’s just say I am burnt out on all the local restaurants. So, I may leave the kitchen a disaster afterwards, but I’m thinking I have to agree…cooking might be just the therapy I need (wish I could nap too but mine are too old-blek!).
Have to share this link with you…went to her Photography and Food Styling Class right after Sonoma. She is amazing and opened my eyes to food photography- which is so much FUN! It doesn’t move or talk or think, and it’s like wrapping a present, the possibilites are endless…

  6. Well, I’m not a juicer, lol!, but I can totally relate to the high after witnessing a birth! Isn’t it an amazing miracle to witness? Totally different perspective when it’s not you there on the bed, huh? Congratulations on your new nephew!

    Cheers!

I’ve never been a juicer before but the health benefits are so great that I might just try it out. Since I don’t have a juicer, how do you make all of this……just a blender and strain out the weird parts?

And what kind of juicer do you have? Do your kids love the juices you make?

  8. Denise says:

I got one of those jack lalanne juicers last year and it really does work great – I usually just juice apples and cranberries or you can juice 1/2 watermelon, 1 lemon, 5 oranges and some pineapple chunks. I LOVE watermelon juice and try to use it as much as I can. 🙂

Yum! I’ll have to try that. I LOVE my VitaMix (blender)! That thing whirls so fast you can put about anything in it and it tastes good. Just don’t let your kids watch. If my son watches, he’ll tell me not to put grass (wheat grass) or salad (spinach or kale) in the juice 😉 They have a bunch of recipes in the recipe book that comes with it as well as online (I believe). Adding pineapple (frozen or fresh) I’ve found gives things a kick. Today I made a drink with frozen pineapple, carrot, apple, ice, kale, some fresh OJ and a little ice. It was great. A great thing about the VitaMix is that all the good stuff (fiber) gets consumed versus strained. This puppy also makes hot soups which is fantastic for quick and healthy meals. Costco demo’s the unit and it’s a great deal when they’re there.
