Photo Contests!

Five Pets You Won't Forget! Time to VOTE!!!

Me Ra Koh

Okay, let me start by saying this was the most fun contest ever! We are going to make the Pet Theme an annual event for sure! Your images were fantastic! Some of them had Brian and I laughing so hard. We got to meet a Lola, Strider, Daisy, a crazy kitten called Punk!, Maggie, George, a Contemplative Kita, a rabbit named Delilah, a hamster named Rook and even a few chickens, plus a couple hundred more of your cute pets!!! We loved them ALL! A HUGE thank you to all that submitted!

These Five Finalists were picked because they captured the pet’s personality in a unique way. If you thought voting was tough with the Water Contest, wait till you see these Five Finalists! (See below for voting details!)

Finalist #1, His Name is Strider, by Christine Solomon!

This shot is CLASSIC!!! I couldn’t stop laughing! Look at that tongue! It kills me! The photographer also did a great job in how they composed the shot. Notice how the image is framed tight, the dog’s face almost fills the whole frame. I think the choice of making this image b/w was also smart because it drew my attention to the tongue that much more. This is the first of five fantastic shots!

Finalist #2, Na-Pali, by Deena Souza!

If the first one didn’t make you fall out of your chair laughing, this one right after will!

You may recognize Deena’s name because she was a Finalist in our Water Themed Contest. Her image was Summer Reunion (the kids all stacked up on each other like a totem pool in the pool.) When I first saw Deena’s blog, I noticed her Pet Images. They are fantastic. So I have to say that I’m so glad she got up the courage to submit again. This image is all about being in the right place at the right time, AND some strategic thinking! Deena said in her email that she put a pretzel in between the shoes. So smart!!! Look at that tongue! And again, Deena’s composition is great. I love that we only see two sexy legs and the sexy shoes. Doesn’t that just add to the humor of this shot? And then to have a black lab with the black and white shoes, wow Deena, you nailed it! Thank you for submitting again! Wonderful shot!

Finalist #3, Lynxie Jinx, by Kelly!

This image is super sweet. Meet Lynxie Jinx.

It’s as if the photographer has frozen a moment in time, a quiet moment. The sense of sound is so poignant in this image. You can almost hear Lynxie Jinx purring. I also love, love, love the lighting in this image. I love how you see the light spill in through the door’s crack and softly illuminate the molding. I love the back light too. The lighting isn’t harsh anywhere, but soft. And the soft blur on the carpet, soft lighting, white washed walls, all lend to me feeling like I want to cuddle with this little one! Incredible job on your composition Kelly! I’m so glad you took a risk and decided to submit this!

Finalist #4, Maxine, by Jennifer!

What a wonderful shot! When we asked you to send us images that revealed your pet’s personality, I felt like Maxine’s image hit that on the mark! Can’t you see this baby being the biggest pushover to a couple kids! They’ve got glasses on her, and who knows what else. In fact, I’m hoping Jennifer gets on here and gives us some background to what Maxine is doing in this shot. The whole thing is just so funny. The composition works well too. Having Maxine centered with the flotation device sticking up on either side of her…perfect! When my kids saw this photo, they both started cracking up. That’s what this image does, it sparks pure joy and laughter! Great job Jennifer!

Finalist #5, Baxter and Lucy, by Beth Berry!

Beth wrote about how these two Beagles have split personalities. They are tearing up everything when she’s not looking, but the moment she pulls her camera out…they give her their angel faces. 🙂 You’ve got to love it! I love the composition with the use of color in this image. So inspiring. To bring a mustard colored chair outside and plop it in the middle of greens as a prop, what a fantastic idea. I went over to Beth’s blog and found that she is Speech Therapist by day and aspiring photographer by night. I’d say her aspirations are going to take her somewhere for sure! Wouldn’t you!

And there you have it! The Five Finalists for our first ever, Pet Photo Contest!

  60. Jill says:

Lassie, come home! No. 1 is my vote – it focuses on the pet, nothing else, no distractions. Beautiful dog and outstanding shot!

Words of wisdom: Once your own photo subjects turn into adolescents and teenagers, you come to appreciate having pets even more than you thought possible. They may whine, but for reasons other than being your subject!

  71. Jessica says:

It was tough decision for me. Both #2 and #4 were great in their composition and attitude, but I think I have to go with #4. I love how the water is so still and the ripples so soft yet I can only imagine that the dog was splashing around quite a bit. It makes me want to go and take a swim.

  89. Ashley says:

    My vote is for #3
I love the softness of the light. It makes me want to go home and discover the “soft” light spots in my own home. The kitty just pops in this image and seems so gentle. I would like to give props to #1 also. The shot is very well composed and looks great in black and white!

  90. Trisha S. says:

I’m putting my vote in for #5.
I love the colors and just how comfortable the cute dogs look! 🙂

  91. Finalist #3: Definitely my favorite… we have two cats ourselves:) What I like about this image is the yummy blur in the foreground and sides. Kitty’s eyes just pop right out of the whole neutral color of the photograph and when I look at the photo, it looks peaceful yet curious to me.

I love photo number five. The colors are amazing and the dogs look so lazy and content. What a great photo!

  107. I am totally going to vote for #3. It’s so quiet. It’s so like a cat to sneak in like that or get in the way like a doorway! I miss our cats Bob and Norman.. haha.. My dad named them. 🙂

  115. Wesley says:

    #5 rocks

  116. Brooks says:

I have to go with #1 — with the narrow depth of field it has to have been, in part, pure luck that she captured the tongue so sharply and having done so with such narrow DOF makes the shot all the more impressive.

I vote for Beth Berry’s pups!! So cute!! Great shot! #5!!

  160. Sandi says:

Has to be #2. What a combination. A great dog and great shoes.

#3. I love the composition and the constrast between the blue eyes, the almost black and white background and the pink nose.

  162. Giselli Panontini says:

number 3 is a great shot! Lynxie is sooo cute on this picture you want to squeeze him!

  163. sKimberly says:

Hands down, #2 NaPali wins my vote! Look at the way he’s looking up at her…priceless and oh so precious!
If those shoes can get prompt that response from a puppy, I’d like to see the response they can get from a man! …can I borrow the shoes?? Love them both!

  164. my vote is for Stryder, #1

There is obvious joy in the dog’s face and the photographer has done such a good job of composition and use of B&W that nothing clutters or distracts from that. Something else that’s important in this particular one, that is absent in a couple of the others is that this dog is not in the least stressed or unhappy — the joy and obvious panting I suspect is from a recent play or romp. Just what a dog is meant to do. Lovely.

  165. Amie says:

Im not a cat person but I really love #3 – great job

  166. Amy P. says:

#3!!! great job, kelly! that little, darling, adorable kitten looks sooo soft! and those eyes are soooo pretty. gread job to all the finalists.

  167. Erik_A says:

    #1

  168. They’re all great – and although I myself am the proud mommy of a chocolate lab, I’ve gotta go with #1 – Stryder.

The comp, eyes and TONGUE did it for me – he’s so exuberant! WOOF!!!!

  169. Jon says:

#5! I like the physical effort to move that chair outside and get the dogs to sit there!

  170. Patrick Dersk says:

I’m voting for #3, Lynxie Jinx, by Kelly. That has got to be the cutest cat ever!

  171. Malissa says:

I vote for number 3. I am not a cat person but I agree, the soft, spilling light, the cat’s expression, and the peacful colors make me want to be there and cuddle with the cat.

  172. Lisa says:

I love #5, it’s hip & fresh & those 2 dogs are being perfect models. I think this would make an awesome gallery wrap canvas for the dog owners house!

I love the Beagle babes in number 5! I bet the innocent looking one in the front is the ring leader when it comes to being ornery;) It looks like she is just waiting for Beth to bring out the TV too!!

  178. michelle s. says:

I’m voting for #5 ONLY because I saw this photo on Beth’s blog weeks ago!! I’m not sure how I initially found her blog but I remember LOVING that yellow chair. When I was looking at the finalists (all of whom I LOVE and never would’ve been able to choose between) I was so excited when I saw those beagles, last but not least!

#5…love the colors! The beagles are adorable!

  183. Jaimie says:

Maxine is a precious dog. This picture really captures her playful spirit. Her owners are amazing people. Jen did a great job with this picture. My vote goes to #4, sweet Maxine.

  184. john king says:

  185. john king says:

#3 without a doubt. I love the calm, peaceful feeling of it. The kitten looks so sweet, but I can’t help but think of bengal tigers. Those eyes are so piercing, the lighting – just beautiful.

  189. Cydney says:

How do you even begin to choose? What hard job you have Me Ra! I LOVE every single one of them but will have to vote for #4 — my family and I were looking at all of them and we all just cracked up and laughed at the cutie pie swimming in her goggles. My girls would do something like that! What a great photo!

  190. charley star says:

these are great… i was torn between #1 and #2, but i’m voting #2 because not only is it a great shot with what you *DO* see in the photo, but it extends into what you DON’T see in photo and makes you wonder what exactly is going on here, and it says so much about the relationship between that dog and the “leg owner”

i love it. so cute and sassy.
    nice job!

  191. Tammy says:

#! Strider. I love the light-ratio in this image (how only one eye is bright) and the composition (how he is off-centered). His fur seems to glow.

  192. Acacia says:

Oh, I like them all. But I think I like #5 the most. It grabbed my attention right away. Love the unconventional setting.

  193. Jenn says:

I love the Lemon beagles, they are so adorable! And I absolutely love cats and 3 definitely warms my heart, gorgeous cat!! But I’m going to go with number 1…Such a fantastic picture and a great moment!

    Love Love Love #3
    Innocent and ready to pounce!

#1- Christine this picture of my grandpuppy portrays that sweet boy and his pretty face better than I can even begin to tell you. You captured his beauty. Hi Strider boy. I love ya. Grammers

  197. Cinda says:

#1- That Strider has heart in those eyes! Go Strider!!!!

  198. Lisa says:

#3 without a doubt! The colours and texture of the image blend together really well! And the way that it’s all naturally pale colours with the fur and the surroundings really make Lynxie’s blue eyes impressively stand out. It really grabbed my attention!

    Love it!

  199. Ridely says:

#3. That cat is absolutely adorable and has a beautiful face.

  200. Toni White says:

    #5 has my vote.

  201. An says:

#3! I love the way the color of his nose and those gorgeous eyes stand out in an otherwise bright, but fairly colorless, setting. Beautiful picture.

  202. Chris says:

My vote is for #1. Black and white was the perfect choice to bring out the beauty and personality of Strider.

  203. shawna says:

I’m a dog person but I’ve just gotta go with #3. I know it’s repetitive but what a SOFT photo, from corner to corner. I just get a wave of peace when I look at it.

  204. Jessica says:

#5 I love the color contrast with the yellow chair.

  205. Jamie says:

    I love #2– so striking!

  206. Amy Cupp says:

I voted for #5…. love it, the colors are wonderful

  207. David Freund says:

#2. Great shot. Just try getting a simple photo of a black lab and you’ll see how superb this really is.

  208. Heather says:

#5 for sure. Could those beagles be any cuter?

  209. Melanie says:

All of them are great, but I vote for #1. Fun contest! Can’t wait to see who wins. 🙂

  210. leonore says:

    #2!! #2!! Go Na Pali!

  212. Penelope says:

#2 The dogs eyes says it all!!!!!

  213. #1 for me…the composition and timing are superb!

  214. Ryan says:

#5 is great, the color contrast with the out of place prop really caught my attention, and those beagles are so photogenic!

  215. Melissa says:

#3, by far! I have to say that I am not a cat fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this image is just so pure…(no pun intended!) Very well done…

  216. Rose Hendershot says:

My vote is for #5. Not just because she is my cousin. But it is a very adorable pick. Great Job Beth.

  217. Carrie V. says:

#2 got a chuckle out of me. That’s my vote.

  218. Allan M. says:

    Number 5, Beagles are Better.

  219. Piper says:

    I vote for #2 !!!
    This is an awesome picture!

  220. Danno says:

If I wasn’t your brother I probably wouldn’t vote for you. Beth Berry definitely has the cutest dogs. #5

  221. Sarah B. says:

    #5, great picture Beth.

  222. Meghan says:

I love photo #5. I love the symmetry. Great photo Beth!

  223. Connie says:

I love #3, it’s simple and from an interesting perspective.

  224. Natalie says:

    #3 Lynxie Jinx, hands down.

The composition is wonderful, exposure spot on and the quality of light really makes this shot. It’s not forced or haphazard, just a wonderfully poignant capture of this sweet little kitty and her vibrant blue eyes.

  225. Cliff says:

THEY ARE ALL GREAT, BUT #2 IS OUTSTANDING AND GETS MY VOTE

  226. Karson Reed says:

I vote for #5! Beth Berry is a very talented photographer. She took beautiful pictures of my house right before I moved. I love the picture here of her two cute doggies! Go Beth!

  227. emily says:

though it’s a difficult choice, i think i’ll have to put my vote in for #1. so so cute, and really seems to capture the personality of the dog.

  228. Dorian says:

#4 just makes me giggle. That’s my vote.

  229. Carol Swales says:

Very close call between 1 and 3. I love the tongue! But I have to vote for number 3, what a beautiful shot Kelly!

  230. Patricia says:

    #5, very different and serene.

  231. Anna says:

    #5 All the way!

  232. Jon says:

Normally I don’t like dogs on the furniture, but in this case it makes a great shot. Great color and contrast.

  233. Bree says:

I have to vote for #1. It’s a beautiful shot, and I can’t resist a black and white – they always come out gorgeous! I love the closeup because you only have the animal to focus on. Also, you can just feel the dog’s happy-go-lucky personality coming through the picture, it just makes me smile.

  234. Taryn says:

#5 I love it! Way to go Beth!!!!

  235. Dawn Beirnes says:

#1 for me hands down! Not only do I LOVE the way his face is framed and of course his tongue, but when I look at that picture, I can absolutely feel the unconditional love that comes from dogs! Strider pulled at my heart strings with his warm and loving eyes! Love it!

  236. Jen Sutton says:

#1 for sure. Composition, lighting, everything is just cute but stunning and classic at the same time.

  237. Beth Wilcox says:

#5 is my pick!! I love the lounging pups in the bright yellow chair. The yard background gives a very casual feeling that matches the pups pose.

#1. Love the simplicity. Although all 5 pictures are great.

  239. Diane says:

    Number #5! Cool composition!

  240. Lisa says:

    #2. Perfect timing!

  241. Sara says:

I vote for #5. Love the color and the chair outside, but my favorite part is that the beagle in the back seems to take a willing back seat to the diva beagle in the front. I don’t know if the front beagle is a female, but he/she seems to enjoy “striking a pose” out in front.

  242. Kathy Ramsey says:

I like #5. The surprise of the chair with a back drop of grasses is fab!

  243. Alex says:

    #3 is my vote!

  244. Carolyn says:

I vote for #3, Lynxie Jinx

  245. Saif says:

    #3 for sure

like the yellow chair and too like the dogs so i vote for #5

  247. Lumineux says:

    #3 For sure. Very nice.

  248. Mara Berry says:

Getting 2 young beagle puppies to lie still in this gold chair is amazing. My vote is for #5!

  249. Heather says:

No. 5 is the total package! The symmetry, use of color, and positioning of the subjects is fantastic.

  250. Sunshine Morgan says:

Number 1 – the framing is excellent, the lighting is so beautiful, and the tongue adds a touch of sillyness. I think choosing black and white really works in this shot also.

  251. Tina says:

#1 is just beautiful! I can picture this blown up big on a canvas. I would buy it!!!! The contrast is striking. Great job!

  252. Julie says:

Finalist #1, His Name is Strider, by Christine Solomon has my vote. The lighting is just amazing – plus it feels like a good dose of slobber is about to come in contact with my face. Great job!

  253. Cathi says:

I vote for #5, I love Beagles (and that chair)!

  254. Marie says:

All of them are wonderful so it is too bad that one has to be chosen over all the others, so I’m putting my vote in for #1 – My Name is Strider! I bet he is a character and that came through loud and clear.

  255. Ashley says:

I love Lynxie Jinx! I am an animal lover, but since I’ve had a couple of kids, it’s all I can do to keep up with them, let alone a pet! i’ve had a cat most of my life and a few dogs along the way, but this little Lynxie gets it. You can see right into that kitty’s soul through those eyes…

  256. Traci says:

#5 … love the dogs and the chair!!!

  257. Rachel says:

    I love #3!

  258. Tamandra says:

Haaard choice! I’m a pet photographer, and my personal tastes lean towards #1, Strider. I love the tight crop, showing of personality, the tongue! The composition of the kitty really is wonderful, too. Close call. Great work everyone!

  259. Kelly Bowie says:

These pets are oozing personality, but I have to choose #2. I feel like you can see his thoughts through those eyes! There is such a clever uniqueness about this photo that captures the imagination and shows the heart of an old dog admiring a pretty lady.

  260. Nicky says:

I vote for #1! I love this shot! You can just imagine what is going through the pups head! “Come play with me!”

  261. Snoopy says:

    #5 please 🙂

  262. Leslie says:

#4. I needed a good laugh today and this is it!

  263. C’mon!!! Dogs and cats were the only pets people entered?!? I want diversity!! ;p

I’ll have to go with #3, the lone cat. Dogs are too easy for set-ups. This cat was captured in the blink of an eye. They call this look in newborns the “quiet alert” time. I think it’s fitting for this guy/gal too.

(p.s speaking of jumbled codes, I’ve found the code to not be required at all or you can just type whatever you want!)

  264. martha says:

Vote for #5 Awesome job of mixing the colors! The natural greaan background looks great.

  265. Mike Dowden says:

Finalist #5, Baxter and Lucy, by Beth Berry!
I agree with your sentiments about the props. Love that chair. The dogs look to comfortable to think that she had to pose them. They might just be used to laying in that chair more than Beth thinks!

  266. Addie says:

Awww, #2 reminds me so much of our old dog. (Lost him 2 years ago). Love this pic…great composition and really shows the dog’s character.

  267. I think it’s great that Beth was able to get the dogs to lay still long enough to get such a good photo. They must be very well trained. I think it’s a great photo. Good job Beth. God bless. Marilyn, Union, Ohio

  268. Jaime says:

#3. i too love the lighting and the unique personality of the cat!

  269. Robin says:

#5 gets my vote! I love the colors and the cute beagles.

  270. Summer says:

They are all wonderful pictures! The first two along with the fourth had me laughing out loud. The third one brought out a sense of peace and contentment with its wonderful soft lighting. And the bold colors in the last one are wonderful.

But….my vote is for number 3 picture. It amazes me with the soft lighting and the calmness of the cat are wonderful!

  271. Don says:

I vote for #5 Love those dogs !

  272. Kelly says:

I love them all, but number 1 – Strider, is my favorite.

  285. val says:

i love the kitty cat, #3.

  286. karen c says:

my vote is for photo 3. what draws me to that picture the most is the thought of what else could be going on. there is something about the face on the cat that makes me want to stare at it to figure out what it is. great job getting down to the cats level.

  287. Sheryl says:

    #5 is great

  288. Ryan says:

Definitely #5 with the dogs on the chair love the colors and composition

  289. Judy says:

#1 is classic. I love the off center face with the tongue dead in the middle as focus.

  290. Salman says:

I vote for #3. Great job Kelly!! very very impressive

  291. dlyn says:

#3!!! Love how the blue eyes just pop!! 🙂 Great picture

  293. Deep says:

#3 it it, you are kidding me if it is anything else, what a fantastic photograph !!

  298. cathy says:

#2 is the only one to vote for!!

  299. Alex says:

    #3 – a gorgeous cat!

  300. Terri says:

I vote for #5 How cute are those dogs.

  301. Christine says:

I’m voting for the chair. I mean, the one with the puppies in the chair. LOVE that chair and its contrast to the outdoors. Beautiful setting for her adorable pets.

  302. Claire says:

    I vote for #4…funny picture!

  303. Gabe says:

Put me down for #5. Beagles rule!

My favorite is #1. The lighting, the composition and the dog expression looking at the camera are great.

  306. chelsie says:

#4– it reminds me of my dog because we do the same thing… dressing her up in princess crowns, sunglasses, fairy wings. hah.

  307. Debbi says:

I like them all but after much deliberation I chose #1 – I love the composition – love the classic black & white – love the eyes and of course the tongue.

  308. Sebastian Richert says:

I vote for #5. Great color and the dogs are very cute.

  309. Lauren says:

I am torn between #1 and #5, but I think my vote goes to #1. I love the off-centerness of the dog’s face… the empty frame to the right makes it feel like his tongue could go on foreevvveeerrrr.

The black and white is stunning, especially with the sharpness of his fur around his face.

Everyone did such a great job! Adorable pets.

I vote for Me Ra & Brian to offer 10 or 20 “runner up” after the winner is announced so we can see some of the ones that almost made the cut.

  310. Jinny Tuetken says:

My vote is for #5. I love the color and contrast.

  311. Allison says:

#4 is my favorite. The dog looks so friendly and lovable, and so much personality. I can just imagine what the dog is going to wear for Halloween!

  312. Eric Collins says:

I like #5. The dogs are cute and the big yellow easy chair outside is silly.

  321. Jill says:

    #3

I don’t really like cats (sorry), but this picture is beautiful. They are all great – #1 is my 2nd fave – but the moment #3 popped up I could feel the quiet and peace of the moment. The white walls and the clean tan carpet blend in with the cat, making his blue eyes and pink nose gently pop out! For some strange reason I can even smell vanilla.

  322. Myssie says:

My vote is for #1. Too cute!

  323. Kari says:

#4 – I want that dog! Such personality captured in the shot. Oh my goodness.

    # 1…….followed by #5……But love them all.

  325. GLB says:

    #2 is a must – original and a darling!

  326. Peterson says:

I absolutely love #4. It reminds me of our dog that we just had to let go of. He was a wonderful dog and LOVED to swim. We would go camping and at 3 in the morning and hear splash. There he goes off on a little swim. Anyways the photo has lots of personality and I love black and whites.

  327. Amber says:

I vote for #1. I can almost feel the slobbery dog kiss on my cheek.

Finalist #3, Lynxie Jinx, by Kelly!

    Great photo!!

The cat looks like its keeping its eye on something but trying not to look interested 🙂

  336. monica says:

I vote for Finalist #4, Maxine, by Jennifer!
Something tells me (the photo, of course) that she is a lovely, lovely dog!

  342. Colleen says:

I choose #4…it’s so creative, FUN, and just gave me a big laugh!!! Love these contests MeRa!!! thanks so much!

  343. michelle leigh says:

Finalist 1 is the winner for me….that shot actually brought happy tears to my eyes because it made me think of my wonderful dog that I had to put to sleep a few months ago because he was so sick…this shot just brought to mind how amazing a pet can be to have in your life…

  344. Hey Me Ra,
I’m so touched that you liked the picture of Maxine, my “dog-in-law”. She is such a fun, sweet dog and we have such a blast when she gets to come to the lake with us. We put those goggles on her as a joke and she kept them on forever, I think she really liked wearing them. I usually don’t take pictures of animals, so it is a treat for me to take pictures of her. I love all the pictures that you picked for finalists, but of course I have to pick my own picture!! Go Maxine!!

  345. Stacie says:

My vote is for #1….I love it!

  346. JenM says:

Number 1 gets my vote. I love the light and the twinkle in his eye. Beautiful and touching!

  349. Poppa says:

I can tell you learned so much from your Dad, wonderful work. Colors are outstanding. Number 5 all the way.
    Go Beth

  350. Monica says:

I had a really tough time deciding, but something about #2 kept drawing me back in. It runs a fine line between hilarious (the look on the dog’s face) and fashion forward. I love the shoes, I love the look on the dog’s face, and I love the way the shot is framed!

  351. Mary V says:

i vote for 4 because it made me laugh!

  352. #1
    Terrific composition
    Delicious black n’ white
    Tongue capture is fantastic
Who “doesn’t” love a Lassie dog?

    Kudos to the other contestants!

  353. Nicole says:

I initially torn between 1 and 3. 1 just cracks me up and what timing with that long tongue! But there is something special about 3…it just makes me feel warm, fuzzy and wishing the kitty was mine to cuddle with :o)

  354. hi im heidi says:

#1 is the best by far.. so far.. i mean really there is no other choice.

  355. Denise Cross says:

#1 is absolutely lovely. B&W was a great choice!

  356. Kristin says:

Number 5, I just love the colors! Number 1 is awesome too.

  357. Susie says:

#2! With shoes like that, she’s got to win!

  358. Carol Nykerk says:

#5, I love the dogs outside on the sofa…GREAT

  359. Carol Nykerk says:

    #5

  360. Chelsea says:

LOVE #2…. so hilarious! i need to get me a dog right about now.

  361. I love Lynxie jinx the kitty, I vote for #3. Who has a house that clean? there is not a spec of dirt on the door walls or floor. Im impressed. I just want to sit with a cup of coffee and sit in front of a window with the sun coming in and have that little kitten in my lap purring. So cute!!

  362. ali says:

Why does this one have to be so hard? OK.

I love the contrast of #1…how the Lassie Dog is intently looking at the viewer and that tongue…I can only imagine the mess it produces after a drink of water.

#2 is just too cute! I wish I owned those legs…and there is a sense that this animal would do anything for the owner of those shoes.

I think the lighting for #3 is gorgeous!!! And those blue eyes are piercing. So peaceful and serene…makes me want to cuddle with my kitty.

#4 reminded me of the goldens that I had as a kid. I laughed out loud when I saw this. What a great moment in time…it’s like Maxine is a life guard or something.

I know how hard it is to work with one dog when you’re trying to capture a moment let alone TWO! I think the color is amazing and the pups expressions are so adorable in #5! Good job Beth!

But since I have to vote for one…I have to say that #1 was the photo that I kept looking at…maybe because that tongue is so inviting for a big slobbery kiss on my cheek…

  363. Katie says:

    My vote is for #4.
I just love the personality. All the pictures are just wonderful. Great job everyone.

  364. Jane Button says:

My vote is for #5 – I can relate to the whole “fill in the blank profession” by day, aspiring photographer by night. And I love the photo as well! I hope to be able to create photographs like that with my new puppy soon!

  365. Erin Fults says:

#5 gets my vote. Beagles are so cute. My first dog as a child was a beagle. Love the beautiful color and framing. It’s the kind of image that draws your eye to it and keeps it there.

  366. L.A. says:

I have to vote for #5. They remind me so much of the two beagles I had when I was younger. Sam would climb any fence to get into things, and his brother, Charlie would dig his way under the same fence to join him. Beagles are such characters!!

  367. adrienne says:

#2- I love the light coming thru the window from behind..it feels peaceful. But they are ALL great, thanks for sharing them, it put a smile on my face!

  368. Cindy says:

#2 is a winner! So creative, artsy, and fun! The lab has character about him. love it.

  369. Keilah says:

    #1 all the way!!

  370. Todd says:

#5, I love the yellow chair, oh & the beagles are pretty cute too!

  371. How can you pick just one??? They are all adorable. I have to go with number 1. A dog with classic good looks and a humorous tongue. I also liked the crop and color.

  372. Aeleen says:

#3 is a beautiful image. I love how soft the lighting is, add to the softness of the kitty.

  373. Alicia F. says:

My favorite was #1. I love the use of light and shadow to make the eye go exactly where it needs to.

  374. Kerry says:

I love #4. I love the look on the cats face, and the soft lighting. It just sucks me in, and makes me want to cuddle with the kitty.

  375. Kerry says:

oops! I meant number 3. Sorry!

  376. dave says:

Number 3 is the bestest Kitty picture!!

  377. Helen says:

They are all adorable. But my vote goes for #3 this time.

  378. Ann Kantola says:

I vote for Lynxie Jinx, by Kelly!

  379. AmandaD says:

#4 is my favorite. It capture the most personality about the dog & it memorializes one of those candid memories you will keep alive a long time in your heart, even after you pup is gone.

  380. maya says:

i gotta vote for #3. first, i gotta represent for all the cat lovers, since it’s the only cat in contention. second – i mean look at that cat! what a cutie! i would love to have a cat like that.

  381. […] Last I looked, we only need 119 more votes to hit 500 for the Pet Photo Contest! If you haven’t voted, get over to this post and post your vote as a comment! If we hit 500 […]

I love #5. ( Everyday i read your blog from France. It’s really a pleasure. Thanks for your work… Thanks to share yours personal reflections. Just Thanks…)

  388. Megan says:

#4! I love the fun nature of their dog that they were able to capture in this one. Plus, I have two big dogs so I know that it wasn’t easy to get that shot!

  389. Nicole Burnett says:

I think #5 is the cutest of all time.

  390. They are all great but I am voting for #1. I love the lighting and the tongue cracks me up!

  391. Maria says:

I’m torn between number #2 and #5, but ultimately I think the colors and composition and #5 make it my first choice. Great pics!

  392. Pamela says:

Wow, they’re all so fun and tough to chooose from… but I’d have to say #4 takes my vote. Every time I glance back at the photos, this one seems to get me to giggle out loud! 🙂

  393. lindy says:

My girls and I decided we like the first one the best…definitely for it photographic qualities, but also because he has such a playful look in his eye that my girls are ready to go romp around with him!

  394. Cecilia says:

They’re all very good, but I like the Attitude of #5. “Like, what? This chair is for us, right? It’s been such a day!” So I’ll vote for #5.

  395. Sharon says:

I’m really having a hard time with this! I’m actually going to vote for #5. I’ve been dying to get a family shot outside on our couch… I never thought of doing it with dogs! Too funny!

  396. I have to cast three votes here…I HAD to ask my daughter for her input, of course thinking I knew exactly which one she would pick….well, I WAS WRONG!!!! Then of course I had to ask my son for his input, well, he pick something completely different from what I thought he would have chosen too. Hence the reason for the three votes…the first of three…..#5 is my daughters favorite….SHE LOVES DOGS!!!!

  397. OK…this is the second of three…..my sons favorite is #3

  398. OK….the third of three, & our final vote….#4. These are all amazing captures. I love the how the first one makes you respond immediately…AWESOME shot Christine, I love the lighting too!!! The second one, I couldn’t decide if I liked the picture or the shoes more…GREAT PHOTO Deena

  399. Debbi says:

My vote is for #5. So cute, what a great photo!

  400. My vote is #2….love that shot!

  401. Krista says:

I really love #1. It’s just like my dog. When you see the tongue hanging out…you better run or she’ll try to lick you to death!

  402. Mary Ann Solmon son says:

I vote for # 2. It was the best.
    Mary Ann

  403. Kimberly says:

Soooooo hard to decide. I just keep going back to #1.

  404. Jamie says:

#5 – I love the colors in the photo and the faces on those doggies speak volumes.

  405. Robin Ilac says:

    I pick #2, love it!

  406. Julie McD says:

My vote is #2. Love all of them, but his one is just way too funny!

  407. Pete says:

I’m a big fan of #5. I love when objects in photos are out of their element, like the couch. great idea.

  408. Allison says:

Baxter and Lucy by Beth Barry.
As the owner of my own Beagle I completely relate to the spilt personality issuse. The colors are stunning and who can resist such cut faces.

  409. J.P. says:

I vote #2, with #3 coming in a very close second. Love that kitteh!

  410. L.A. says:

I have to vote for #5. I had a pair of beagles when I was growing up that were so sweet and rotten at the same time. They would get into our garden, but each in a different way. One would climb the fence, while the other would dig his way under the same fence. But, beagles are so loveable, you can’t hold it against them.

  411. Lynda says:

Must vote for #2. The love in the lab’s eyes says it all and I am a sucker for devotion.

  412. Susan says:

My vote is for #1, although it was really hard to pick just one!

  413. Heather Paulson says:

I love #5….it looks like an ad for something, but #1 gets my vote because of that tongue! You can see that this pup is very excited and intent on what is coming next. I also love the black and white. Good job!

  414. Theresa says:

    #2

gets my vote! You just KNOW he’s waiting for her to take the shoes off so he can have a little snack . . .

  415. shelli says:

    I vote for #2.

  416. Ryan says:

I’d have to say…#4. It’s so hilarious and fun! Definitely shows some great personality. They all are awesome though!

  417. Kim says:

#5 for sure… if you’ve ever had to photograph an animal before you may appreciate how and what the photographer went thru to get the shot. I love the displacement. Great shot!

  418. Kelly says:

#5 absolutely. I love the colors – yellow against green… brown & white beagles… and it’s so cute how cozy and at home those puppies look. Just love that picture.

  419. BJ says:

I so love the framing and the look on the dogs face together with it’s tongue sticking out – fantastic! Reminds me of my Shepard when she is running around happy as a clam and tongue hanging out almost to the floor.

  420. Sharon says:

keep voting!!! i NEED a chance to win Lightroom!

  421. Claudia says:

#5 – love the colors and the chair. great idea!

  422. Steve says:

Fantastic photos! I’m going to have to go with number 1, even though 3 and 5 are really gorgeous!

  423. Heather says:

My vote is # 4, Maxine. What a doll!

  424. april says:

#3. It’s just such a sweet photo and it is beautifully processed.

  425. kelly says:

Tough call, but I vote for #1! Just a nice moment frozen in time.

  426. Laura Hull says:

I love #1!!! They are all awesome:)

  427. Bradie says:

    #4 is my vote!

  428. Tessa says:

#3 – as a kitty lover/owner, this image is just too adorable.

  429. Wendy says:

Okay, I don’t know if I voted, I couldn’t find my name on the list, so my vote is for #2. Absolutely love the composition and moment.

  430. Josh says:

    #3 lighting. Love the eyes

  431. louise says:

hmm … it really is a difficult choice. i think i’ll have to choose #5 though. the colors are lovely, composition nice and even though beth may have a couple of bruised shins after dragging that armchair outside, the beagles look like they’d be perfectly content sitting there all day!

  432. LOL….I had to ask my husband when he got home which one he liked….wondering if he would pick the same as any of us….apparently we are ALL individuals….LOL His pick is #1

  433. Airika Pope says:

Wow, what an amazing set of photos! Number 2 cracks me up, but I’m a sucker for great kitty shots, so my vote goes to #3!

  434. Sue Christianson says:

The are all great! #4 has my vote. I’m with your kids Me Ra! It made me laugh too!

  435. Anne Piros says:

    #4 is my favorite.

  436. Dana says:

    #2!

I love the color, the beautiful dog, and the animal print shoes!!!

  437. Heather says:

I love number one – Strider! Partially because of his spot on resemblance to my brother’s cowdog Roy (Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix), but also because of the wonderful lighting keeping his one eye from view and accentuating that big dog-kissing tongue. (wipe!) In my opinion this photograph best captures personality.

  438. Debbie Dunne says:

I love #1…..love the tongue and the B&W processing!

  439. Debi says:

I love #2 the look on the dogs face and the contrast with the black and white shoes, the black dog and white background and just a touch of color in the red collar = perfection!

  440. Matt says:

My vote is for #4. Nice picture, good job!

  441. Renee Smart says:

#4 I love it as it is something dogs do not naturally do. A lot of dogs go in the water but not with floats.

  442. Sara France says:

#5 – Cutest thing ever! Accept for my dog 😉 A mom always thinks so!

  443. Erin says:

#3…they are all great pictures, but this one photographically speaks to me. I am not even a pet person really. But it is just a “moment” to me!!! Great job!

  444. Mary St says:

I love #2 – great shot, it’s my pick. Also love the beagles in #5.

  445. kim says:

#3. Reminds me of coming around a corner and finding my husbands cat waiting for him outside a door. I like that it is monochromatic.

  446. Mimi says:

#1…it’s just beautiful, I would hang that on the wall with my family pics!

  447. Chris says:

I like man’s best friend in #1. Awesome Picture!

  448. I am voting for image #1! It is a great image that captures the dogs uniquiness and personality! I also love this photo black and white!

  449. Michael Patrick says:

I vote for #5 What a great picture, I used to have a beagle and all it used to do was eat and destroy stuff, so I can relate, good job

  450. Aaron says:

I liked #4 & #5 the best, but I have to go with the beagles on the yellow chair outside. I had a beagle mix as a kid, and all it did was eat, it couldn’t even make it up onto the furniture, much less pose like these two. those are two good lookin’ dogs. Well done!!!

  451. Amanda says:

LOOK at that tongue! So sharp #1 for sure!

  452. sharon says:

    we’re almost there!!! Keep voting!

  453. Dee says:

This was a hard one I kept going between #1 and #3…I have to go with #3 got to lve those beautiful blue eyes…Good job to all

  454. Tam says:

I love #4 Maxine, it melts my heart and brings a huge smile to my face…the things that our furry family members will put up with to make us happy.

If only she could speak, I wonder what she would say, “Okay, okay, I’ll do it…but only because I love you unconditionally”.

Sweet Maxine, they are very lucky to have such a sweet fur child.

  455. Elise says:

#3. I love the composition, the light, and mostly the serenity without losing a sense of playfulness. That image just makes me feel great!

  456. Genie says:

Wow, so tough, so many qualities to have to choose between! I’ll go with #1 – because the timing to capture that amazing tongue and it also reflects his/her personality without any embellishment. I love all of them – beautiful job all of you!!

  457. Kelly says:

Thanks everyone for all the great comments, I can’t even express how wonderful it is for all of the encouragement. I have to say though, I laughed really hard at the comment about how clean the floor/walls were, that’s all thanks to my husband. I sent that comment to him, so he feels like he’s won now 🙂

  458. Dori says:

My vote is for #1 but I was impressed with all of them. Great job, y’all!

  459. Aidan says:

They were all really great photos, but I have to say #3 really caught my eyes the most.

  460. Finalist #5
OMG these are the cutest beagles ever! Love the color. Great job.

  461. Winnie says:

    #2–Best of show.

  462. Christy says:

    I vote for #1.

  463. Erin says:

    #3 – so simple

  464. danielle says:

how can i resist the snuggling puppies of #5? total yin-yang positioning. you know they’re going to get into something naughty!

  465. Amy says:

I just am in love with #1
Everything about it is just wonderful.
    The crop is well done.

  466. Sharon says:

only 30 votes and we would have had our chance at Lightroom! MAN!

  467. Heye says:

    Defenetily No 2!!!
I like the shoes (just kidding)

  468. Sue says:

#4 – Maxine deserves her owner to win because maybe then there will be better things to do than subject Maxine to more of this – although she does look like she is enjoying herself. It is hard to vote when they are all so great – I loved the cat picture – how long did you have to wait outside that door?? And I love the composition of the black dog with the zebra shoes – #1 is an awesome action shot – the beagles are darling in the chair – I’m pretty sure this must be a common occurance for them to sit together in that chair – but are they in the right position for their namts??/Inquiring minds want to know???

  469. Alex says:

#3 Lynxie Jinx — a great pet shot without being america’s-funniest-whatever-ish.

  470. Claudia says:

#1 is my pick. What perfect timing to press the shutter release! Love the close crop!

  471. Amy says:

    #1!!! Love it!

  472. Vicki says:

#2 NaPali – very fun! Deene does a great job!

  473. Lilianna says:

#3- all are good, but this photographer did not interfere, capturing the natural element

  474. Liza says:

After a long debate with myself, I have decided to vote for #3. I don’t even like cats but this definitely makes me want to have one! The shot is so clean…I love it!

  475. Cheri says:

My vote is for #2! The pup is adorable and the legs are HOT!!! Fabulous shot!

  476. Aaron Routt says:

Got to be #5! No question about it!

  477. Brenda says:

#5 without a doubt! The colors are so vivid and those pups are just too precious for words! Love it.

  478. Erin says:

I love #2 by Deene Souza! this is such a fun shoot in its entirety but that image says so much about the dog and his love for those sexy legs doesn’t it?! This is the perfect contest for this image!

  479. Hi admin This is very nice idea LOL. Do u like watch worldcup 2010 ? I love brazil . How about you friend ? Regards admin of elobing.com
