Me Ra Koh

Guess the Answer and WIN!

First, thank you so much for all your comments on my Thailand post. Your thoughts, responses, reflections have been life-giving to read. What a wonderful community you are.

It’s Monday morning, and since Monday mornings can feel so “ugh”…I thought we could start the week with a fun contest.

This last Friday morning I was knocked unconscious. Total black out. An official concussion. I’m totally fine now, but the story is…well, it’s a story for sure. I can hear you thinking, “Your doing a contest around having a concussion?” But trust me friends, the story is crazy. It will make you smile, some will laugh.

Can you guess how it happened? My chiropractor said that the main way people get concussions is by playing football, boxing or a car accident. I wasn’t doing any of those things. 🙂

If you post your guess, and it’s right…we’ll give you a $15 Gift Certificate to Starbucks or iTunes! Your choice! I’ll post the answer tomorrow. Let the games begin, and Happy Monday morning!

p.s. To the four people who know how this happened…your not allowed to play! 🙂

You were balancing precariously to “get the shot” and fell.

That is how it would happen with me. It would probably involve a folding chair. 🙂 They make me nervous.

I guess I forgot to say – hope you are OK and sorry to hear you had something crazy happen.

if it were me i’d probably knock myself out running into a door frame, i’m always in such a hurry, i literally cut corners and run into them all the time – it is only a matter of time before i am flat on my back. is that what happened to you?

  4. Sharon

    April 20th, 2009 at 9:33 am

    Taking a shower!

    putting your luggage away?!

  6. Misty

    April 20th, 2009 at 9:58 am

I’m guessing something to do with Crossfit. Maybe a weighted ball to the head while doing wall balls? =)

  7. Pamela S.

    April 20th, 2009 at 10:19 am

I can’t believe you’re giving away a prize to guess how you were injured!!! I feel so guilty for even guessing. For the fun of a game though, I will guess that you tripped over a toy of some kind. We always joke that an injury could come this way in our household, too!

  8. Diane

    April 20th, 2009 at 10:48 am

    fell down some steps???

  9. J.P.

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:00 am

Mmmm…I’m wondering if Misty has it. I’ve just about knocked myself out with the wall balls before. Well, I hope it’s ok to throw out two guesses, but they’ve both happened to me, so I at least I came by them honestly.

    1) You pulled the tailgate of your vehicle down on your head. (Ugh. Say what you want about American cars, a Chevy Tahoe’s tailgate seems solidly made to me.)

    2) You opened the door to a cabinet (or a drawer), bent down to pick something up, and rose quickly only to intersect your head’s path with the location of said door.

    Glad you’re feeling better!

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:00 am

I’m going to guess falling off a chair.

2nd guess is an accidental head bunt by a child. Thats what happen to my mom. By 2 yr old threw his head back and hit her eye just right. She ended up with a huge black eye that swelled her eye shut.

  11. Dawn Beirnes

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:01 am

BENT DOWN TO DO SOMETHING (UNPACK, DROPPED SOMETHING, ETC.) AND STOOD BACK UP AND CRACKED YOUR HEAD ON AN OPEN DOOR ON A CABINET. WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS…BECAUSE I’VE DONE IT NUMEROUS TIMES! GLAD YOU ARE OK.

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:08 am

Forgetting how slippery american showers are you fell and smacked your head!

  13. Jenny Rebecca

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:08 am

Hmmmmm…you were re-enacting Brian carrying you over the threshold as a newlywed and he knocked your head into the door frame?

I bet you were roller skating. 😉

    First, Bummer! 🙁
Second, AWESOME to have *fun* stories! 😉

My guess, the cat tripped you… we’ve ALMOST been taken out by our cats LOTS of times. I figure they, as a species, may be trying to wipe us humans out. 😉

Can’t wait to hear what happened. 🙂

  17. Jill

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:38 am

You fell off your bike and weren’t wearing a helmet?? Hey, the rest have been taken!! =)

  18. johnwaire

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:39 am

you visited my blog and were so amazed by the imaging…that you fell off your chair and smacked your noggin on the floor.

    they found you unconscious…smiling.

    was i close? 🙂

seriously…glad to know that you’re ok.

  19. Allison G.

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:41 am

All that mail fell on you? ha ha just kidding.

Hmm, I was going to to with the cabinet door, but since that is already taken, I am going to say that you thought the garage door was all the way up and it slid down and hit you.

    Hope you are feeling better!!

  20. Camille D. Wilson

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:42 am

On a sliding glass door, thinking it was open (we’ve had beautiful weather, eager to get outside through our own doors to the deck and yard each day!)

  21. Kathy Carlisle

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:42 am

Making “Whoopie” in the shower (with your hubby of course, not alone):) Glad you’re ok.

  22. Kim

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:45 am

The puppy ran you into a wall. My other guess was already used, which was falling backwards while trying to get the perfect shot.

  23. Emily M.

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:46 am

hmmm. you ran into a really clean sliding glass door?

  24. Lauren

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:12 pm

You were chasing Rosie underneath the kitchen table and you bonked your head!!

OR! You were goofing with the kids on their bunk beds and you cracked your head on the top bunk/ceiling!!

I hope you feel better soon! ♥

  25. jeramy

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:12 pm

well, i’d say you were trying to beat the garage door before it closed making a last minute dash….and it smacked you on top of the head….which is why you were talking to your chiropractor because you actually thought that the majority of the damage was done to your back when the garage door had you pinned to the ground…..little did you know….it was more about your head. yeah? 🙂

  26. michelle

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I was going to guess you tripped over the dog, but that is taken. So I am going to guess doing yoga. 🙂

  27. Kellie

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    My guess is… pregnant.

You are the third person I know who has blacked out mysteriously in the last couple weeks. Crazy!

  28. Jason K. Evans

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Having only met you a few times, I’d guess that you are an extremely energetic photographer. With that being said, I bet you were telling a subject to do something and when they couldn’t quite get the gist of what you wanted, you showed them. Unfortunately, you either hit your head going up….. or coming down.

Which probably makes it a good thing the subject didn’t do it just the way you wanted (this time) 🙂

  29. Lizzybee

    April 20th, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Did you hit your head on the tampon dispenser in ladies restroom? That happened to me when I was in high school. Oh yeah. Out cold. Woke up later in the ER.

  30. Sarah Alston

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Hmmmmmmm…You were reaching for something up high, and an avalanche of stuff bombarded you. 🙂

  31. abbey

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

My first thought was CrossFit as well….

I am going to say “playing with your kids”… can’t pinpoint the activity! But my kids abuse me!!!! ha ha! 🙂

Hope you are OK now!!! Goodness Gracious!!

You stepped on a rake and the handle came up and smacked you in the head. That happened to my Mom once.

  33. Janessa

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:32 pm

    My guess:
You were going up on a step stool to get ‘the perfect shot’ and didn’t pay attention to where you were going, you ended up being hit by a celing fan…
(just because I’ve done that.. but I was playing with kids and crawled up on the top bunk, only to be knocked by the celing fan!)

Um… but maybe the clue was that it happened in the morning? I hope all is well!

  34. Nicky

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Exercise! It’s bad for you! 🙂

Can’t wait to hear the story!!

  35. Eric

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

I think you had a long lens on your camera (or was putting it on/taking it off) and you smacked yourself in the head with it (it would have to be quality glass, with a metal barrel to cause a concussion).

  36. Angie

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I think you were unpacking or putting things away and something fell (possibly from a closet or a shelf?) on your head and knocked you out. I’m guessing this because the same thing happened to me. I was putting something away on the top shelf of a closet and another box fell right on my head and knocked me out cold. Ouch! Glad you are okay!

  37. Daniel

    April 20th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

You walked into a closed door.
Great job on cleaning the glass.

  38. Genie

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Gawd you all are SO HILARIOUS!! Me Ra, I think you should just pick one of THESE answers they’re so good. I’ll never feel stupid about when I hit my head the next time. Thanks for the therapy session! Glad you’re okay too…

  39. LobotoME

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Hope you are doing better and readjusting after your amazing trip.

I say you got knocked out either by wrecking on your bike (has happened to me) or knocking your noggin on a cabinet when you were standing up from bending down (again, happened to me!)

    J 🙂

  40. Valerie White

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

My first thought is you walked into a glass door thinking it was your Thailand house with open walls BUT since so many people said it I am going to say one of your kids knocked you down while swinging ; )

  41. Maureen

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

I will guess that you were reaching up for something high (in a cabinet) and whatever it was fell on your head…..

  42. Me Ra

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

This is to much fun! Some of your ideas are HILARIOUS! But I’ve got to intervene b/c no one is close yet!

    Hint #1 I was outside

Get out of the box friends! Get creative! 🙂

  43. Me Ra

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Actually Genie corrected me, a couple people are close. But not saying who! 🙂

  44. erin

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

you hit your head on the car door/door frame

  45. erin

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:44 pm

no, something involving a tennis racket, golf club, or baseball bat.

  46. Becky

    April 20th, 2009 at 2:47 pm

I’m going to guess that you were reaching into a camera case to pull out a camera, which ended up being lighter than anticipated and you ended up smacking yourself in the head with the camera?

  47. Jen S

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

I’m going to guess that you were sleep walking (or running) and were dreaming of the monkeys or some other large bug from Thailand chasing you. Then you ran into something in your house or down the steps. Glad to hear you are okay and happy enough to be able to laugh about it. Can’t wait to hear the real story!

  48. Sharon

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:20 pm

    I’m gonna try again.

The kids were missing the monkeys so you climbed a tree. You were up in the tree pretending to be a monkey when suddenly the branch broke and you fell.

    Yeah?

  49. Courtney Craver

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

I am going to guess something totally un-photography related…. You tripped over a toy one of the kids left on the floor… i am constantly doing this 😉

  50. Dinea de Photo

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm

You bumped your head in the bathroom or something involving Brian… maybe he was being a monkey and then the tree branch fell and bumped your head.

  51. Jennifer MacNiven Photography

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:45 pm

First off, we missed you this weekend at OSP…really, truly missed you! Second, I’m sorry you had a concussion…those are scary and I’m glad you’re ok to talk about it, joke about it, and make a game about it. Third, were you giving the dog a bath and she jumped out of the tub and knocked you on the floor? Just trying to not guess the same thing as anyone else ;).
Miss you girl and hope to see you soon. Bummer I won’t be at the next PUG.
    Jen

    April 20th, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Kitchen Cabinet. I bet you were busy cooking stood up and bam…hit your head right on there!

  53. Janice

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Well, glad to hear you are fine! That can be so scary! My guess is that you climbed up a tree (can’t get the jungle out of your system…) to get “the shot” and fell.

  54. Jen

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:05 pm

Did you happen to fall out of bed since you are use to sleeping w/ a bed net? 😉

  55. kelly

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm

    Here’s my guess:
You recreated your outdoor shower from Thailand, and you slipped and fell…?

  56. lora

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:27 pm

my guess is that you were doing some sort of cartwheel, or other acrobatic move! 🙂

  57. Amanda

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

So glad you are ok! So I will guess…you fell off the roof or ladder! Don’t know what you were doing up there tho but thats my guess!!!

  58. Sue Christianson

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

hmm…outside huh? How about you were running outside and ran into a tree?? It happened to Brittany’s friend once. Glad you are ok! 🙂

  59. Sue Christianson

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm

or Brian did it somehow. Let’s see, Brian was pretending he was batman again and tackled batwoman and knocked her out!

  60. Allison G.

    April 20th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

hmmm, ok guess# 2 since we weren’t close yet…. I am going to say you were doing something sporty like playing softball and got hit with the ball or a bat.

    Allison

This thread is so silly. I am glad you are okay.

    April 20th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

u were on your bike and hit a parked car….and *smack* on the pavement !

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i can’t guess much more than that.
can’t wait to hear the story though!!!!!

  63. Bonnie Stewart

    April 20th, 2009 at 5:22 pm

I think you ran into something like a door…ouch!

  64. Lauren

    April 20th, 2009 at 5:28 pm

I think you were playing in the sprinkler with the kids, you slipped on some wet grass, and you fell and hit your head on the walkway!

    April 20th, 2009 at 6:12 pm

You were about to hang a memento from Thailand outside and you mis-stepped on your chair/ladder and fell and conked your noggin or you were hanging a hammock in your yard and were trying to relax when the hammock gave way and you fell to the ground, blacked out and thought you had hurt your back.

**Happy to hear you are much better now – these things can be dangerous!

  67. Sandy

    April 20th, 2009 at 6:33 pm

You were sleep walking and ran into the wall.

  68. Georgia

    April 20th, 2009 at 6:38 pm

you were washing dishes and got WAY TOO in to the scrubbing… you smacked your head on the sharp end of a cabinet… yikes… I’m proud of you.

  69. Chelsie

    April 20th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

First and foremost- im really glad that you are okay!
    now for the guess…
You were pushing blaze or pascaline on the swing and they came back and you looked away… and bam… they kicked you right in the head.

  70. kristenita

    April 20th, 2009 at 7:26 pm

playing with your kiddos & blaze bonked you in the head with a ball?

  71. Vanessa

    April 20th, 2009 at 9:32 pm

Well, I think your husband did it…inadvertently of course. You were dancing around the room or being crazy together and *BOOM*!!

    =D

  72. denise karis

    April 20th, 2009 at 9:34 pm

    you fell?

  73. Christina

    April 20th, 2009 at 10:19 pm

You hit your head on an open door after you bent down to pick something up. I hate our Top Freezer setup for this reason 🙂

  74. Carol

    April 20th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

On Easter Monday I knocked myself out cold twice! The first time I dreamt I dislocated my shoulder, woke and thought I would go to the bathroom. While there I remembered the dream and fainted, out for 30 seconds (my DH tells me) Went back to bed and woke and hour later and thought I would go to the bathroom, saw my reflection in the mirror (and the blood on my forehead) and fainted again. Result was two large lacerations to my forehead, a black eye and a day in hospital due to the loss of blood.
So I am going to guess that I am not the only one who faints and knocks myself out – you fainted from a dream and knocked yourself out!

  75. Shannon

    April 20th, 2009 at 11:56 pm

I have a feeling that it happened while you were laughing at something or someone and you bumped heads with someone maybe one of your beautiful children or Brian.

  76. Shannon

    April 21st, 2009 at 12:02 am

I hope you are felling better! Don’t feel bad if it was something that leads to a funny story because I once turned around to say a very smart comment to my mom(many moons ago being the great 18yr child I was) because I thought she was annoying me asking me questions and hit the edge of the door with my face and well broke my nose:)

Midnight Margaritas in the garden and the conga line got a little crazy? 😉 (Really glad you are okay and that you are sharing this with all of us.)

    April 21st, 2009 at 3:12 am

I think you were walking Rosie while wearing roller blades and ran into a tree or something or you were getting into your car and hit your head on the door?

Glad you are ok!!!! and I hope you are feeling much better.

  79. Lauren

    April 21st, 2009 at 4:25 am

One more guess from me… there was a problem with the garage door so you had to open/close it manually instead of with the remote. The door slid down and bonked on your head!!

I was thinking about it this morning because I had to unlatch the garage door and lower it myself so that the UPS lady could leave my new Canon Speedlite in the garage instead of on the front porch. ♥

I feel awful for dreaming up different ways you got bonked in the head!

  80. CA

    April 21st, 2009 at 4:40 am

Wait, wait! I got it…. you hit your head really hard.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
