Wondering what to wear for Fall photos?Β I love having 2-3 year olds pick out their own outfits with mom’s supervision of course.
I mean look at her striped tights and pink tutu!Β Mom found stripes for big brother, accent for dad, and neutrals for her!Β We didn’t let the three year old know she had that much control, but it was sure fun!Β LOL!
When considering what to wear for fall photos let me tell you whatΒ my stylist suggests!Β I can hear some of you giggling as I type that.Β But can I just tell you that a stylist isΒ the BEST!Β When I was in high school and college,Β my momΒ would buyΒ my clothes–sometimes beg me to try them on–because I never thought about shopping.Β Never thought about clothes.Β Not that I don’t like new outfits, but seriously, clothes and shoes have never been on my radar.Β (Pascaline is a different story!)Β I drove my mom nuts (but she loved me still :)).Β However, when you need a different outfit for every TV episode–my personality type isn’t going to last very long.Β Enter a Stylist! Rebecca is not only an incredible Stylist, she has a passion to help women find confidence in their own skin.Β (My kind of lady!) Plus, she is an awesome mom. I wanted to make sure that what I wore on TV reflected a woman who was approachable and feminine.Β Whether it’s Nate Berkus, Disney, The Me Ra Koh Travel Show, speaking engagements, or a photo exhibit in NYC, she sets me up so I feel even more confident to be me.
I asked Rebecca if she would give our readers some ideas on what to wear for Fall photos.Β She asked me what piece of clothing that Pascaline and I love most right now.Β Pascaline LOVES her jean jacket, so using that as her piece for a girl, Rebecca put together this assortment of ideas for a Fall colored Holiday Photo!
Rebecca wrote; I like unexpected colors so this is why I picked this season’s hue: yellow. This blends beautifully back to fall and the Thanksgiving season of course. Since Pascaline wanted the focal point to be her denim jacket, I picked pieces that she could easily choose from to mix and match to her liking. She can also wear them later for school and fun. Also keep in mind all these pieces are mostly under 20.00 dollars–YAY!!
She knows I’m loving my canary yellow cords from Target, so she put together pieces that could go with it for a family photo.
Tips for moms from Rebecca…When I work with Moms, especially moms that are going to be photographed, looking great and feeling great is key. I have picked a pretty confident color, yellow, for this Thanksgiving themed holiday card. However, here are three reasons why you will look and feel your best.
1. Yellow is a strong color and in itself it distracts from any flaws that you might ” think” you have. Also, yellow lifts the mood so you can’t help but smile and have fun.
2. All the pieces I’ve picked have a certain length to them that flatter various body shapes and sizes; a long sweater coat, untucked chambray shirt that will elongate under a layered sweater, tall brown boots. A petite gal might buy a similar brown boot with a small heel or wedge.
3. Nothing is baggy or too loose fitting, yet the fit is not tight. Does this make sense? I feel like a lot of times we hide in our clothes instead of finding clothes that fit us. When we find the right fit we can do no wrong!
But what if you don’t have a Rebecca?Β I’ve got a solution!Β One of my mom blogging friends told me about Stitch Fix!Β Have you heard of them?Β Since weΒ now live inΒ Texas and Rebecca is in Washington, I’m tryingΒ Stitch FixΒ out.Β They have tons of ideas on how to transform your favorite summer piece into what to wear for Fall photos!
You create a Style Profile which is SO MUCH FUN!Β And then every month or just once in a while (you customize it), their stylists send you an outfit based on your profile with the shipping label/package to send back whatever you don’t want.
Enough said!Β But what about the kids?Β What do the kids wearΒ for Fall photos?Β Β Let me say something to the moms.Β This is what I tell ALL my clients, and I’m going to tell you too.Β If you’re wondering what to wear for Fall photos,Β here’s my best advice.Β Β Pick an outfit you feel beautiful in and have the rest of your family compliment you.Β You can tie the kids in with an accent of color that goes with what you’re wearing.Β But start with you.Β That’s key.Β If everyone looks great, but mom doesn’t like how she looks…we all know that photo will never see the light of day.Β π
Before you head out to your family photo shoot, take a deep breath.Β Enjoy the process and trust your gut.Β Wear what you feel most beautiful in and let the kids have a little creative say.Β Now go get em!

YES LOVE this! MORE!!
This great MeRa! YES, we want more from Rebecca!
How funny that growing up you didn’t think about clothes or shopping, yet Pasc is a budding fashion designer! I loved looking at her drawings when I was at your home in August. She’s quite the talented lady! Pretty soon, you’ll be wearing her designs!
Loved this post and yesterdays post also!
Loved this post as well as yesterday’s post! Great Job!
THIS is awesome….it was always hard to make sense of the fact that I too, wasn’t really into shopping/shoes/accessories, but LOVED being a photographer and capturing how everyone ELSE looked. lol It wasn’t until my 30s that I started enjoying it. My biggest clothing stress/question right now is, how can I be casual at home and confidently answer an unexpected door bell, OR, run into the grocery and see a client, WITHOUT being embarrassed about how I look? In the winter, I am cold ALL THE TIME and love scarves, sweats/fuzzy anything, layers (I’m known to layer my leggings), hoodies, and my husband’s big coats. It’s a pretty poor visual!! haha! Rebecca, help!! π Being warm is of paramount importance. π
This was awesome! Definitely want more! And I hope I can afford her myself someday too π always been a dream of mine! I can totally relate to your story.
Jennifer! I know, right?!! Pascaline totally wants to be a Fashion Designer, LOVES clothes, especially shoes, and all I can say is she didn’t get it from me. so funny! But so wonderful at the same time. She teaches me stuff about fashion all the time too!!!
Love these suggestions! Thank you! Would love to hear more from her in the future for different seasons. Me Ra or Rebecca, do we have permission to use these suggestions/images of clothing collections with our clients on our websites or blogs? Let me know if you have time. Thanks!
Yesyesyes! I love style but have no clue when shopping for myself. So helpful
I’m in my 60’s and feel the same way….never been too interested in fashion but recently my daughter, Jill, was asked to be part of a book, Beautiful after Baby, written by a local mom, Emily Roy, and her aunt, Janice Hurley-Trailor, who is an image consultant. This book might interest some of the very moms you are trying to mentor. In fact, all twelve of the featured young moms (all with different body types) are from the Northwest and the photography was done by a local young mom. Next, I’m asking them to write a book for grandmothers!
