Thanks so much for all the anniversary salutations! You guys are the BEST! Brian and I had a fun night out, and Kim Totten, you’d be happy to hear that he made me laugh most the night! (And Happy Belated birthday sweetie!)
After posting our interview yesterday with FOLIO, I thought you’d get a kick out of seeing the homeschool thing in action. Yep, this is where our classroom ends up being some times–the airports. 🙂 We do what we got to do, right?!
With how much we travel, homeschool has become the glue that keeps us anchored as a family. It’s not for everyone by any means, but it is our secret sauce to making this creative lifestyle work for all four of us. Check out the interview to hear more about intentional choices we’ve made with our business and family!
(p.s. Those are my grandparents off to the side. They came with us to our Secret Sony Project and helped with the kids. They also thought it was great to see the great-grandkids doing spelling tests and World History at the airports in between flights. :))
Out of curiosity, what are your special habits or rituals that act as the glue for your family? Would love to hear! All of you women amaze me with your tips and tricks!
And one quick question for women in Minneapolis…
We would love to bring our CONFIDENCE workshop to you, but you’ve got to help us. Genie and I are not familiar with the area at all. Can anyone make suggestions on where to hold the workshop? We would need a space for 20 women, where we could have lunch catered, and preferably a quaint setting–maybe connected to a hotel for room discounts too. Post your ideas if you don’t mind! Thanks so much!

Question: I’m planning on going to the Minneapolis workshop, but is it still likely that you’ll have one? because if not I’ll sign up for the on in DC. 🙂
I am extremely pleased to hear that there’s a possibility of the Confidence Workshop hitting Minneapolis. Although I am not familiar with the area and cannot give suggestions, you can count me in as attending. Ladies, this has made my day! 🙂
i just listened to the podcast….so is it 12 or 13 years?
I am so excited that you are seriously considering the MPLS workshop. I know that I think about it everyday!
There is a great little place called the Minnesota Boat Club, located on Raspberry Island in downtown St. Paul (MPLS and St. Paul are only 15 mins apart). It’s the perfect, quaint location for a small workshop and 20 people. Located on an island in the Mississippi River, it’s historic and has amazing views of downtown St. Paul and river bluffs. We can shoot there too as it’s historic and beautiful. You can walk across the bridge into downtown St. Paul for more urban settings as well. There is a crown plaza right as you cross the bridge as well. I used to work for the hospitality company that exclusively books the venue and could probably get a deal of some kind. They also cater to there for lunches. Here is the link- http://www.mintahoe.com/index.cfm?objectid=F3E7AE43-1372-537E-D5D17F52E5872493
This company also has a variety of locations that I can help out with too in case the Boat Club isn’t quite what you are looking for. Genie, feel free to email me at ciderpressstudios@gmail.com. I am happy to help out with anything! I can be your MPLS scout!
So excited!
Couple on the Minneapolis side are the Calhoun Beach Club or Stella’s Fish Cafe (http://www.stellasfishcafe.com/parties.htm) has the space for seperate gatherings and is located in the heart of the Minneapolis Uptown area.
Just some more ideas.
I think the Minneapolis train depot would be a great spot, too. It has two hotels attached to it and is really close to the historic stone arch bridge along the river downtown.

I love this. For us our son initiated a ritual…when ever either of us leave we have to do a “Sandwich Snuggle” which is basically a family hug. It is the cutest thing when he runs across the room screaming, “I GOTTA BE THE HOT DOG!!!!!”
listening to the podcast! Crazy coincidence! I met my husband while working in a coffee shop and gave him free coffee all day long, but he has no problem admitting to it.. 😉
ok I keep hoping to make it to the workshop. But Austin, Minnesota is the Hormel hqtr. The factory tour might be interesting which my my sil could arrange. Im still pulling for detroit.
Have you checked out the Henry Ford Museum! Its a homeschooling dream!
Woo Hoo! Minneapolis! suggestions? I don’t get out much but the places I would have suggested were mentioned
May the laughter continue your whole life long and beyond my friend! Glad to hear it was a good celebration! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! I welcome 40 with open arms and most of all a open heart! Thanks for being someone in my life that has helped teach me to become more beautiful with each passing year. You are appreciated more than you know!
As far as rituals that help keep our family grounded: We have a silly little thing we do at meal time. Right after a prayer of thanks we all hold hands in one big circle and sing at the top of our lungs…” Shake a little Love- Shake a little Love” Our arms are all singing up and down and the laughter and smiles are priceless! It’s just our little thing we do and it is treasured!
It isn’t easy to keep a family of 7 grounded! So, we always eat dinner together. Even when a kid comes home late from practice or such, we try to gather and sit with that person. At dinner we do “highs and lows” for each person (even the 4 year old) and the person has the floor for as long as he/she needs to explain the good and bad aspects of his/her day. Then after dinner we all help with the clean up and we blast the music, dance and sing while washing dishes, emptying garbage, etc etc. We have been able to expose the kids to some of “our” music (although they still do not get just how darn cool U2 is….) and they have taught us all about Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana, and the house looks good for a solid hour each and every day…..
i just finished listening to your podcast + i wanted to tell you that it was incredible. you are engaging + inspiring, full of insight. you have given me new determination to pursue my dream. despite the fact that the battle is uphill + i am coming from such a different place than where i want to go, i believe that i will get there. thank you for sharing yourself with the rest of us…it means more than you can imagine.
Just wanted to let you know that while I know a lot of your story/ies, I didn’t know that much. I had the most fruitful 24 hrs. after listening to your podcast. Creativity that had not flown for months, ran through me in such an amazing way. How did that happen? I don’t really understand it, but you must keep doing what you are doing. It is seriously like David playing the harp (if that makes any sense?!).
The glue that keeps my family together???? I am not sure….because my kids are little and I am just hoping that what I think is “glue” actually DOES keep us together!
But every night we read scriptures and have prayer together as a family before bed. I figure if anyone is going to help keep our family together in todays world it’s Him.
I see CHOW peeking out under those notebooks. As a homeschooling photographer too, we fit it in all over the place. Cute pics.
please please come to Minneapolis… i gonna scrape all my penny’s together till then and i will SO COME!!! can’t wait!
Zolpidem overnight….
Zolpidem fedex. Zolpidem….

This manufacturer took my hard earned money so i would like to help with making people informed of it, be sure to assist me pass around this thing so they can not rip off other peoples bucks!!! They took all my money (1250$) and just do not answer anymore… same occurred to a person just before but i found it again too late.
