Brian and I are fast approaching our 11 year wedding anniversary. YEAH!!!! Since we’re going to be on the road a lot with weddings and speaking, we decided to do a day trip getaway. We’ve got from 9am to midnight. 🙂 Any creative ideas for a day trip in the Northwest? We thought about taking our bikes and riding, but we need some cool ideas on where to go. Or forget the bikes, do you have creative day trip ideas?
And a few more quick updates for all my lovely readers!!
Don’t forget the photo contest theme for July is “WATER”. The photo can be anything that has to do with water. Whenever I think about this theme I can’t help but remember the great shot Garrett sent us before the Sonoma Workshop. Such a classic! (Garrett, that new head shot of you on your website is PERFECT!! Great shot!)
Send your photo contest WATER entries to contest@fioria.us.
I’m going to try and have our FIVE FINALISTS for the Fatherhood June Contest posted this Friday. Stay tuned!
I’m also finishing up the final touches on the Denver, CO engagement shoot. Oooohhh I can’t wait to post that slideshow for you!!! If not today, for sure tomorrow!
The Refuse to Say Cheese Forum has become the bain of our existence! We have it all ready but are having a HECK of a time finding ways to create private groups for the Mom’s Survival 101 group and the individual workshops. Remember how we said we’re going have my business coach, Karen Buckley, do a private group on the forum for all the ladies who buy the Mom’s Survival 101 Kit? Well, we want that part to be as user friendly as possible, and if one more tech support guy says “It’s fairly easy Miss” I swear I’m going to scream!!! Thanks for hanging in there with us! When this thing goes live we’re going to have to celebrate in some way together! 🙂
That’s it for now, but don’t forget to post your day trip ideas! Think creative, romantic, active, outside, sunny weather, yummy food….”It’s fairly easy” right? 🙂
going to the ocean is pretty much a no-brainer for us. a picnic basket and a warm blanket can go a long way. it’s more about being together then anything else.
Happy Anniversary! What about taking a seaplane ride to Victoria or the San Juans?! I know there are lots of destinations that would be romantic and fun at the same time!
What about a seaplane ride to the San Juans and go kayaking and then dining outside at one of the many restaurants!
Brian and I like to go to vineyards and do wine tasting. We’d love to hit the Sonoma and Napa areas sometime! I don’t know what else there is in the Northwest… whale watching?
Hmm, must get my water picture ready to send in!!
I personally love Whidbey Island. There are some great excursions around Vancouver Islands like Tofino, Sooke Harbor and Wickaninnish Inn.
I love Port Townsend. They have a beach that you can walk and pick up beach glass. Call me if you go no one in town will tell you where it is. Silverwater Cafe has great food and the ice cream shop (towards the end of town) has gelato.
Sequim has that sand spit that goes 5+ miles out to a lighthouse. It’s a great hike and nice for talking.
That’s my two cents.
How about a winery? Many of them do have awesome restuarants on site:)
are there wineries in Washington? i don’t think so…
Dorian! I totally know Silver Water Cafe in Pt. Townsend. I love that spot. Last year I went on a weekend getaway by myself to Pt. Townsend and discovered that yummy restaurant and the gelato too. Great reminder!
Keep the ideas coming friends! These are great!
Ok…my favorite hike is Snow Lake and if you haven’t been there, it’s a must! It’s right behind Alpental Ski Resort (snoqualmie pass). You can come back and go to Snoqualmie Falls and walk down to the bottom, grab an icecream cone and have a great dinner there overlooking the falls.
I second (or third) the idea about the SanJuan islands. Even if you go by ferry, the ferry ride itself can be snuggly and romantic. There are wineries on SanJuan island too. Take your bikes, ride around, or do the kayaking thing. All fun. Makes for a long day, but it’s worth it.
If you haven’t been up to Mt. Rainier lately, that’s also a fun day trip. hopefully the snow level will be low enough to get up there.
Yakima (Rattlesnake Hills) has great wineries (but again, a long day…and drinking all day, who wants to drive back?)
You probably will laugh at this, but skydiving at Kapowsin is amazing too! I’m setting up a skydive trip…so I’ll keep you informed if you don’t ‘jump’ at the idea for your anniversary.
Oh, Horseback riding in CleElum…that’s fun too…then you can raft the river afterwards.
Ok…there’s my $10 worth…hope you find something fun to do! 😉
Wow! When my husband and I finally make a visit to the west coast – I’m having Jen MacNiven plan our trip!!! ALL of those things sound spectacular!
I have always wanted to go to the San Juan Islands, stay in a B&B and go kayaking and whale watching,
(which is in season right now).
Hi Me Ra and Brian,
11 years….congrats!! Tanya and I choose skydiving on our 5th (forget about it for our 11th), WOW if you can muster the courage. Whatever you do make sure to take a moment and look into each others eyes and say, “I Love You” or “WOW, I can’t believe we made it”.
Walker (the picture above) turns 6 today July 10th. Thanks for posting that picture….he got a kick out of seeing himself on the computer.
See you in SF coming up?
Take care,
Garrett
Me Ra –
There is a beautiful nature reserve on Bainbridge Island called the Bloedel Reserve. All kinds of native gardens – a moss garden, reflecting pool and Japanese garden. I have heard it is amazing. And Bainbridge has a lot of nice little restaurants – or you could take the ferry from Winslow (on Bainbridge) over to Seattle for a night out in the city…

I posted this comment yesterday but it say’s “awaiting moderation” and is not showing up? So here it goes again! 😉
I took a day trip to Hood River Oregon a couple years ago and loved it. The drive was nice and not too long. The town is right on the river and is full of cute shops, resturants, coffee/tea’s shops, and a few breweries. It’s a real cool almost surfer feel town with a BEATUIFUL view of Mt hood. They have a couple local wineries but the coolest part is the windsurfers! The river is full of them. You guys should get crazy and take a windsurfing lesson I’d love to see Brian in a wetsuit =)
Head out to the Olympic Peninsula for a different suggestion. But if I had to pick my top rec, I’d say ferry to San Juans, either San Juan or Orcas, and some kayaking, together w/a great meal, and a romantic night ferry back.
Congrats on 11 years. It’s our 11th in October, and we still haven’t celebrated our 10th yet (no $$ to do what we want).
Cheers!
OK…so what did you decide to do for your celebration of 11 years? 😉 Curious minds want to know!
I vote for Kirsten’s Dancing on Water photo! It is by far the most original.
Not sure if the vote I just submitted counted (I couldn’t figure out how to make the not = sign. So here it is again:
