My Little Brother-the Writer

Me Ra Koh

This is my little brother, Shauni.

He graduated from college a couple of years with a BA in English. He then spent some time studying in Spain and traveled all around Europe on the weekends. Then he decided to settle in Southern CA where he started working on his first screen play while he waited tables at night.

Shauni is one of the funniest guys I know. He was the kid that made everyone laugh in class, but when the teacher looked he always had a straight face. He’s also thoughtful, contemplative, and creative. I treasure all the talks I’ve had with Shauni about writing and the overall creative process. He’s an artist through and through.

Some would say he needed to get a job that used his degree instead of waiting tables. But he’s got a gift, and he decided to go for it with his writing.

And then the call came.

A couple weeks ago, he received a call from a respectable producer. The guy loves his screenplay and offered him a contract. Shauni signed last week, and I’m still freaking out inside! There are a lot of hoops a screen play has to go through before it hits the box office, but the fact that a real producer called and loved it is worth gold. Now Shauni is busy at work on his second screenplay, and I’m so excited for his new project.

I was thinking about the producer calling, and I thought about how powerful it is when someone in the profession says “Your work is amazing. This is worth something to me! And it’s going to speak to others.” Your family and friends can tell you you’re gifted and going to go far until their blue in the face, but it’s hard to keep going when we’re still waiting for those in the industry to validate your work. And when it comes, it’s the best thing ever. But can we hang on until it comes?

I just wanted to say a big congrats to you Shauni! I’m super proud of you! I love you! And I had to include the shot below so people would see the not-so-serious side of you too! 🙂 (love nuna)

p.s. in case any of you were wondering, yes, he is single! 🙂 How’s that for a big sister plug?!

I have used my Social Security number while on the Internet so now I am afraid to make any credit card purchases on-line because I think it will make my credit card account vulnerable. Right now I’m thinking about applying for a credit card online but I’m not sure that it is safe. Do you now what kind of security system they use at
