I’d bring the camera to the hospital? What kind of mom do you think I am? π
So here’s the story.
Last Wednesday, Blaze was getting out of the car, lost his balance and fell. He hit the driveway pretty hard, and he usually brushes bumps and scrapes off, but he was screaming.
I took him to get x-rayed, and Blaze told them it was his left shoulder that hurt. I could have sworn it was the other, but he was serious about it being his left side. So they x-rayed his left side, nothing was broken, he got adjusted by the chiropractor and we came home.
Over the next two days he had a great attitude, but by Friday his right shoulder was totally slumping. He would cry if we changed his shirt or lifted him up, so we went back in for x-rays on the right side this time. And sure enough, his collar bone on the right side was broken. Poor guy, but smart guy. The doctor at the children’s hospital said that kids are super smart and will often say the opposite side hurts so you don’t touch the side that really is hurting. He fooled all of us!
So mom and Blaze hung out in the hospital Friday night for a few hours, getting more x-rays, on the right side. π
And yeah, I totally pulled out the camera a couple times. π Surprised?
Since you can’t cast a broken collar bone, Blaze is supposed to wear this sling for 6 weeks! Who are we kidding?! About every thirty minutes we put it back on him. I now know why the doctor was chuckling when he said “6 weeks”.
From the hospital, we drove to the Wine and Cheese Meet and Greet for our Advanced Workshop. I was so beat, emotionally/physically, and these women were so understanding. Some of the attendees brought gifts for the kids, and wow, what a caring group of people. I totally got to relax by the fire, have a glass of wine, and just be with these wonderful people while the kids colored and met the different attendees.
Despite the hospital–it was still the perfect start to our workshop. More on the workshop coming soon!
Oh I can’t stop cringing at the thought of broken collar bones…poor baby! He looks so grown-up with that sling on though.
Hope the next 6 weeks are relatively calm for Blaze! (yeah right)
AWWW he looks so pitiful! That is too much about the tricking the Dr.’s! What a smart guy! I can see the thought process.Γ’β¬Β¦
“No WAY!… those big guys aren’t touching my hurt shoulder!! I’m pointing to the spot that doesn’t hurt!”
So, happy to hear that you were able to have a relaxing start to your workshop after all that!
I’ll be praying for speedy healing for your Blaze! 6 weeks in a sling…
Poor Blaze! I would have never thought about kids telling the opposite side because of pain. I will definitely have that in my mind for future reference! I will keep your family in my prayers…I can’t imagine how it’s going to be like dealing with a young one and a sling!
I KNEW IT!!! PICTURES!!! Poor Blaze and of course poor MOMMY! He does look really cute though with that tough guy sling on…6 weeks, good luck, I think Greer’s sling way back when lasted JUST 30 minutes! haha It is very traumatic when you and your child go through stuff like that, it’s nice you had the meet and greet to decompress! He doesn’t look frightened..by the hospital or his camera toting Mom and the cookie looks delicious! π
Poor baby! It’s always hard when our babies are in pain. What a clever little one to pull the switch-a-roo on which side hurt! I would totally take pictures at the hospital π
Hope Blaze is doing better and has a fast recovery! Good luck with the sling!
awww, poor guy and smart too. i love the third pic. he looks so cool and big.
Poor baby is right! Man! He’s got mom wrapped around his finger. For the most part he’s running around every where, almost more wild then normal b/c of how trapped he’s feeling in his sling, but then he knows just when to give mom those great big brown eyes and say “hurts mama, hurts”, and I basically hand over whatever he wants as Pascaline rolls her eyes. π
Wait till you see the Halloween costume shots! π I’ll share those later!
You poor things!!! Mothers and sons are bonded together like fathers and daughters….I’m convinced! Our oldest, Lucy, hit her lip and tooth on the nightstand a week and half ago, and I swear that I was the one who was more hurt than she was. I hate seeing them hurt – I can’t imagine a broken bone! You seem like you pulled it together pretty well for Blaze, Me Ra! That’s a mom’s strength. Hang in there (and tell Brian to give Pascaline a little extra attention – that way Blaze can roll his eyes, too) π
My gosh–you guys have quite a few adventures this month! DO you ever wish things would slow down–just for a bit? I’m sending some prayers up for little Blaze. π
Yikes! My husband Jon broke BOTH collar bones when he was 8 years old. He still remembers the pain. CLEARLY! Blaze is such a cute little guy and kids are so amazing how quickly they heal. He should be feeling better really soon! Good luck with keeping him in that sling. Good Job with bringing the camera along. My mom was rushed to the hospital for cardiac failure last month. I didn’t even think about my camera until we had been in the ICU a couple days. I had to run to Fred Meyer and buy a disposable one. I had to get a couple shots with my mom with her tiara and oxygen on. Hope to see you again soon! Take care and spoil Blaze rotten!
been there… done that!! I felt horrible for doing it at the time, but hey, every photograph is a memory!!!
I hope your little one is OK!! π
