Your Advice on Shopping!

Me Ra Koh

So glad you all liked yesterday’s post! I had a fun time recounting it all! Brian said he couldn’t stop laughing after reading the post, and he was there living it! 😉

We’re off this morning to do an engagement shoot today at the Getty!

Brian and I can’t wait to shoot in such an inspiring location, and even more so, meet Marian and Greg in person. Their wedding is only six weeks away!

After the shoot Brian and I head down to Huntington Beach for a fun lunch with the talented Shoot Dot Edit gang, Dane Sanders, and the (beautiful, sweet) Sara France (if you haven’t checked out Sara’s sites, they’re great). Then we head back to Hollywood to grab dinner with Carey and her husband. I have this scary feeling that after the morning shoot, we’re going to be sitting, eating, sitting, eating more, and then sitting again, BUT great conversation the whole way through. 🙂

But here’s what I need your advice on. My grandma and grandpa have gone through horrible loss with two deaths in the family this last five weeks. I wanted to get them each something that was really special, unique and creative. Any ideas on what to get? They’re simple people and incredibly giving and kind. They’re both in their mid seventies and totally active from their Thanksgiving travels to Puerto Vallarta to spending the spring in Santa Barbara and the summer at their lake cabin. I hope I’m going this strong when I’m a great grandparent.

The only reason I can ask you guys for advice today is because my grandparents arrive to my brother’s place today, and because of this I know my grandma won’t read today’s blog post. 🙂

Thanks for the advice!!

it sounds like your grandma is computer literate – if that’s the case, what about a digital picture frame? that might be nice for them to take with them on their travels so they have lots of photos of their loved ones to look at along the way, in a small package.

  2. Denise says:

I was thinking a family photo album – filled, of course, with your favorite photos.

also, My grandmother wears a ring of four stones (my mom, uncle, grandma and grandpa’s birthstones) and it’s really pretty and meaningful to her – something like that would be an idea? But that would really be more for your grandma.

Let us know what you find for them!

I like little frames for the tree.
When my uncle passed I gave the family dolphins for the tree. My dad gave me a snow baby the year of my miscarriage. It is at the top of my tree.

What a fun trip. Merry Christmas.

I don’t know how creative you’re feeling, but how about something creative — like a poem, a haiku, a picture you or the kids drew — put in a frame and dedicated to them.

I just received “Beyond the Green Box” (my husband ordered it for me as part of my Christmas present) and I am so excited!

I am sitting here while he is at work trying my best not to open it up and watch it right now!!! But I will be a good girl and wait until Christmas so he is happy.

I just wanted to say thank you for getting it to us before Christmas, I am sure that will make my husband’s day and it makes mine just to have it!!!

I’m not sure how your grandparents suffered their loss, but I decided to get my Dad something special this year for a man who can buy whatever he wants. I donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation in his name because they inspired my Dad and gave him hope when he was going though cancer treatments three years ago. (I’m happy to say he is now cancer free!) Sounds like a donation might be a good fit for simple giving people. Merry Christmas!

I think that the best thing you can give them is a hand written card letting them know how sorry you are for their losses.

this is a fun, creative idea. go and get one of the Compendium inspirational books and embellish it with your incredible pictures! you could find a picture that “relates” to the quotes. it’s simple yet is something they will cherish forever! good luck…

  10. I love the idea of giving to a cause in their name. Also I always prefer to give experiences. We just ordered tickets to a musical for my in-laws. What about tickets to the theater or a concert? Maybe a weekend at a Bed and Breakfast?
    Happy Holidays!

  11. can you photograph engagements at the Getty without a hassle?

  12. NICOLE says:

The best gift I have yet to see is a book of reflections. There are several to choose from which will allow you to pick the best fit. It might be a good reminder of all the blessings they have received despite the loss of 2 people. It may also allow your grandparents to grieve in a positive way by recalling joyous memories with people both past and present. Just a thought!

  17. Rather good entry, really enlightening stuff. Never considered I’d obtain the information I need right here. I’ve been hunting throughout the net for a while now and had been starting to get irritated. Luckily, I came across your website and received precisely what I was searching for.
