Over the years, especially when I first started my photography business, I’d walk into several camera stores hoping to get help and better understanding.ย I think it’s safe to say that 95% of the time, my experience was horrible.ย The guy behind the counter often had an ego that exhausted me.ย I remember one store that wouldn’t sell me a flash before my first wedding because he didn’t think I was capable of shooting a wedding.ย So I left without a flash.ย For real.ย Well, this weekend in Denver, CO, my hope was renewed in the local camera store.
Thank you to Mike’s Camera Store for being an AWE-mazing host on Saturday.ย I was in awe with Alex, the owner, and his genuine heart and mission to empower and educate aspiring photographers.ย His team reflects his vision.ย They want to help fuel your passion for learning about photography, and they do it by investing in their lecture program that brings pros from all over the country to inspire the local community.
What a gift to have in a local camera store.ย They also match any price online which says a lot because the large online retailers can have lower pricing due to such high volume–and this alone runs many local camera stores out of business.ย A rare gift when you find one that will match anything you see online.
Alex didn’t ask me to blog this.ย I don’t get any kick backs for saying how wonderful they are.ย But when you experience something that feels so rare after so many years of bad experience, you want to let everyone know.ย Right?
Thank you Alex, to you and your awesome team, for being such great hosts.ย Brian and I had a WONDERFUL time and hope to see you all again!ย Big thank you to the Denver Post newspaper and especially SONY for also making it possible for me to come!
Thank you to everyone who came to my lecture and the hands-on workshop.
It is was a honor to speak in to your lives.ย And to the beautiful families who came and modeled for us, what a gift to work with your sweet kids!ย Your children are precious.
Till we see each other again!

exactly! There *might* be a certain (chain) store that I refuse to step foot in any of their locations for this very reason! ๐
mera, few people actually take the time to say thank you and to say some thing nice. this was refreshing.
Awesome! I wish they were closer to Seattle! And so excited to see you spreading your joy to other states ๐
I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to hear this. I got my feelings hurt a couple GOOD times by the people at the local pro camera shops when I started in 2000. Those shops are all gone now, which is bittersweet. I wish there was a thriving community of camera shops in Seattle-Tacoma…and I’m SO GLAD to hear that there’s a storefront out there that has taken risks, done things different, and had success. ๐ As it should be!!!
can i just say, those boots look great on you! ๐
