I wanted to open this opportunity up on our blog. We have a half dozen women/moms who have connected with us about this idea, and I think it’s fantastic!
You know how we’re planning on holding 8 workshops in 8 cities for our 2008 City Tour. 8 in 08′! Fun ring to it huh!
These three places are for sure:
1. Seattle, January 12th and 13th (Meet and Greet Friday night on the 11th) Registration Starts Next Week!
2. San Diego, May 24th and 25th (Bonus “Business 1/2 Day” on Monday 26th) Registration Starts Next Week!
3. Burlington, Vermont (tentative for October)
But we have other cities and possible hostesses that we’re talking with about where the other 5 cities should be. If you think your city would be a great place for a 2 Day Women’s Workshop for Moms and Aspiring Photographers, keep reading.
And yep, you heard right, we’re making this event “2 Days” after the high volume in requests to do just that.
Day One Topics
Camera mechanics (how the heck this thing works!), lighting, model shoots, photo assignments due for the second day.
Day Two Topics
Strategies for tougher lighting that confronts us in daily life (like all the frustrating indoor stuff of how to light the birthday cake or our family by the Christmas tree without a black cave behind them b/c of your flash :)). We’ll also cover what to do with your photos (post process), editing photos (softwares to use and how), and the in’s and out’s of starting a side business for yourself, and much more that is signature stuff to me and Brian.
For every workshop, we’d like a hostess. This hostess will help us find the best location for the workshop (a cozy B&B or Inn that women will love). She’ll also help us find the right place for catering (if the location doesn’t provide food), and help work out details for the Wine and Dine/Meet and Greet the night prior to the workshop starting, plus brainstorm ideas with us for a Saturday night dinner. And most of all, the hostess will start spreading the word to her community that the workshop is coming to their town.
In gratitude that we cannot express in words, Brian and I would love to offer the Hostess a spot in the workshop free of charge ($999). Yep, that’s right! Her spot is totally reserved and waived of the workshop cost.
We’re doing this right now with a couple moms, and I can’t tell you how much fun I’m having! It’s like planning multi-city parties. Two of the women have offered to do the Wine and Cheese, Meet and Greet at their home! Don’t you just love women and the spirit of hostessing that so many have! And yes, if you’d like to team up with a friend to be hostesses together we have no problem splitting the discount between the two of you! The workshop fee split would be $499 for each of you.
There are cities that are still under consideration, but we are open to your suggestions. The workshops will have a maximum of 20 spots (except San Diego’s workshop).
If you’d like be a workshop hostess, email me with this info:
1. Your name, contact info (including email and phone number)
2. What city you think we should come to?
3. Websites to locations you think would be good for holding the workshop.
4. What month in 2008 is ideal weather for your city?
5. How would you suggest spreading the word in your city and surrounding cities?
Can’t wait to see where this post leads us!!! 🙂 Time to jump again!
To see recent workshops, click here and even here! 🙂
Here’s the trailer!
Wow, Me Ra! You are so cool.
I wish I could join in but we’ll probably be moving in the beginning of the year but I have no idea where to yet! But I do have family near Atlanta, so if you go there, I’ll have to see if I can work it out.
Me Ra,
How great! I can’t wait for the Seattle one. I am so going this time around! I missed the first two but there is no way I am missing this one! Especially for two days, how great and fun that will be!
Hi, Me Ra! I’m sending you an e-mail! I’m not a mom, but I’m a big sister to three (and a photographer!), and I would LOVE to play hostess for your workshop! 🙂
Yeah Liza! I can’t wait to meet you in person!
And Jen, I’ll keep an eye out for your email.
You totally don’t have to be a mom to play hostess, but being a woman helps. 😉
Lilianna, from San Antonio, TX, just emailed. Thanks Lilianna! We’ll review your email and get back with you soon!
Anyone else out there from San Antonio?
Hi Me Ra and Brian….I’m so proud of you guys. Keep it up!! Let me know if you need a Male Host in San Francisco…I would be honored.
Garrett
Hey Garrett! Everyone check out Garrett’s site!! He is such an AMAZING photographer!! http://www.gbphotographers.com I actually got an email from a sweet woman in San Fran, so I’ll definitly keep you posted! It’d be so cool to see you again!! Brian and I think of you often and that first workshop with Denis. 🙂 Say hi to Matt for me!
Oh please…work something out for Phoenix! There are many great photographers here! when will the other cities you’ll be visiting be posted? I’m waiting on the edge of my seat.
I’m in Fort Worth and would travel to San Antonio for the workshop! I would travel anywhere in Texas 😀
Me Ra and Brian, I hope I emailed everything to the right email. mera@fioria.us
I think you should come to Arizona and I think Sedona would be a gorgeous place to go to do the workshop. I live in Surprise but Sedona is absolutely gorgeous. You have the creek and its a great environment. I cant wait to hear what you choose!!
Another vote for Texas 😉 We’ve got 4 large cities that could attract people from all of them (Dallas, San Antonio, Houston & Austin). I’ll email you all the above info.
I would love to plan one in DC but I have not lived in the area long enough to get it done “the right way”–and the weather won’t get warm here again until April or so. Is there anyone else in the area that I can join up with?? We are Air Force and will be moving in June from the East Coast to the West Coast, so for me it is will be easiest for a east coast site before June and a west coast site after June. ARGH! GO AIR FORCE! With all that said-I will make my way anywhere for this opportunity!
yea texas is a must!!!! 🙂
We’re out doing a shoot today, but Brian and I just wanted to pop on here real quick and say we are WONDERFULLY OVERWHELMED with how many of you have emailed.
We plan to look it all over this weekend and may be contacting some of you soon!
Much love!! Me Ra
Mill Valley, Ca! I just sent an e-mail with more info! Mill Valley would be a great option for the S.F. Bay Area!
YES, after reading these, I’m definitely going to come to one whether it’s in my city or not! But I would highly recommend somewhere in the state of Colorado (I’m in Breckenridge). I’ll email you with the required info!
I have to echo the fact that I think you’d do phenomenally well in Texas! I lived there for years and most of my girlfriends still call it home. I’ve been talking about ya’ll ever since attending your workshops, and i think I’ve turned more than a few on to the blog. Goes without saying but, they love your work!
Anyway, sounds like you have more than enough hosts, but if you need help for the Texas one I’m game to pitch in. I’m pretty familiar with Dallas/Ft. Worth and the Austin area. I know I can help you advertise and send leads about restaurants, b&b space, etc. I’ll drop you a line.
And for those of you considering coming, take the plunge…it will be a weekend you’ll never forget! It’s worth every penny. Your only regret will be that it can’t last longer!

In oregon 🙂
I’m moving there full-on this winter and am trying to convince OneLightWorkshop to have their gig there, too.
Until then, I’m happy to have you in Tacoma!!!!
Our house is for sale, so its a LOT cleaner than normal…perfect for hosting you, even though you live right down the road, I believe 🙂
But, Portland would be so cool. Maybe for spring 08?
And in case you forget the name of the city I’d love to see you in it’s:

i will email you some info tomorrow.
thanks!
Congrats to the both of you for your success with the workshops! I taught photography for several years and there is so much joy to be had with sharing your artistic insight and technical knowledge with others! I miss it! It is clear that your workshops and others like it are wanted and NEEDED! Can’t wait to see where this leads you…
Just had to tell you that Dave watched your video trailer today and started bawling… you make him so proud….:-)
Love ya!
Hi Me Ra,
I sent you an e-mail saturday night with my plug and ideas for bringing you guys to Boston. Just wanted to let you know here as well!
🙂

Hi, we would love to host an event at our Inn – our photographer is a big fan of yours and suggested it. The Garden Gables Inn is a 17-room beautifully maintained historic property in Lenox, MA (the Berkshires). The area is home to some of the most acclaimed cultural arts and museums (many creative residents) plus it is convenient to Boston and NYC area (about two hours from each place). The Spring is a great time (April/May) and we can promote it on our web site (which is linked from many other sites) plus send out email blasts to our own list and post it on sites like berkshires.org and nycgetaways.com.
How about a destination workshop? San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is an amazing artistic town. I spent a summer there taking art classes and think it would be a great spot to learn photography. So many wonderful places to capture! And lots of villas to stay at for a very reasonable rate! Just something to think about… There were a lot of people from Texas down in San Miguel on holiday when I was living there.
Me! Me! San Antonio!!! Would love to host! I have to go back and reread all of the details cause I was just so excited that I hurried to the end!
Ok seriously NO ONE from the midwest? I was hoping that someone from IN, IL, OH or MI would chime in!
I would love to be hostess for a Minnesota workshop! I’m putting together the information you requested!!
Tonya
Me Ra and Brian, you know that I loved your workshop. If you end looking into Portland, Oregon, I would be honored to help with all of the planning!
Debbie Dunne
i’m in OKC so I would absolutely LOVE if you hosted a workshop in TX!

[…] And fyi, we’ll be needing workshop hostesses for Chicago, Georgia and Texas! Email me if you’re interested (mera@fioria.us). Some of you have emailed already and I’ll try and narrow it down then give you a call for an informal interview (no stress ). Our biggest desire is someone who is well connected with places to host the workshop, ideas for places to eat with a large group, places to do photo shoots, families they can invite to be our models, creative ideas to market the workshop and get the word out locally, and the biggest thing–someone who LOVES answering emails for attendees who will have questions.
