Workshops

Our Photography Workshop for Women is Coming to DC! Check it out!

Me Ra Koh

First, to all the women and men who bravely commented on yesterday’s post “Digging for Gold: Steps to Branding Your Business”–thank you. Your vulnerability and true expression of where life has you–was incredibly touching to read. I can’t tell you what a blessing it was to read every entry. Thank you from the deepest place of my heart.

And yes, you read the today’s title right! If you live in or near DC, we’ve decided to bring the workshop to you this Fall!

Photography Workshop for Women in DC

We are in the midst of hammering out details like; where to hold the workshop and what weekend to hold it on. But what we know for sure is that we’ll be doing the workshop in mid September. So start looking at your calendars, the workshop will happen in September (probably mid September).

Also, if you know DC well, and you have ideas on where to hold a workshop for twenty women (and Brian) feel free to post your tips in the comments of today’s post and/or email us your tips! Email Genie at genie@fioria.us. We would love to get your input, especially since I’ve never been to DC before (can you believe it? so weird!) We’re definitely bringing the kiddos and planning to stay a few extra days to visit the sites–a serious homeschool adventure! If you’ve stayed in a hotel that you LOVE, let us know! We’re all ears on putting the details for the DC Workshop together.

In regards to the space we’re looking for…somewhere that is open and inviting. We try to stay away from traditional hotel banquet rooms. Sometimes we rent out B&B’s, use museum classroom space, etc. If you know of a creative location for the workshop (2 day weekend), do tell. And FYI, we’ll probably be looking for a handful of baby models/kid models for the live photo shoots. Something to think about. 🙂

We will release the details and Early Bird Registration of $799 (regular price is $999) next week! So talk to the hubbie this weekend (maybe Saturday since Sunday is Father’s Day :)), GET EXCITED, pinch yourself because it’s really happening, tell your girlfriends, and Stay Tuned!

If you don’t live anywhere near DC, don’t be discouraged. We are trying to fit another workshop into our Fall/Winter schedule. So you stay tuned too!

Can I hear a YIPPEE from all my future DC attendees!

(And yes, we’ll be bringing all the goodies (gift certificates galore!) that the Seattle women received. More to come on that!)

Chicago, Minneapolis??? Your words have sparked a new conversation for me. I’ve put myself out there & it is scary. It is scary sharing myself to the masses (whatever little number there are) and what I see. It seems so much safer to stay hidden. Thanks for all you do.

  2. Jen says:

I’m so excited that you are coming to the east coast! Could you share more about what type of workshop it is? I have not been reading your blog for that long and I don’t know if there is a standard type of workshop you do, but I have seen two kinds mentioned.

  3. Jen says:

I live in the Midwest but I’ve always wanted to visit DC! What a great opportunity! I look forward to the details of your workshop!

  4. Allison G. says:

You can definitely get a yipee from me! I just did a little dance around my kitchen!! woo hoo!!! I’m officially offering whatever help you guys need in pulling this together! And I’ll put together a list of cool places to take the kids and places for the workshop for ya!

    So fun!!

  5. Margo says:

YAY! Maybe I can get everything lined up to attend. Only 1 hour from my home!

  6. Awe, good for the DC ladies! I have to admit I am a little bummed that you aren’t coming to Minneapolis. I will just keep my fingers crossed for the next workshop location reveal.

  7. Addie says:

Oohhh, I think you’ll really like DC! I’m so excited for you and Brian and the kids! Our kids all went to DC on school trips, even though we are about 3 hours west of there. It was always a great day to wander the mall and see the monuments, not to mention the museums! Maybe Chelsie and I will try to slip down the interstate to say hello! 😉 OR if during your travels you end up anywhere near Deep Creek Lake (McHenry, MD) please give us a call or get in touch with us. A “Me Ra and Brian Extravaganza in DC” will be extraordinary. To those of you who get to attend—-Congrats and can’t wait to see how you turn DC into your own personal portrait haven. To Me Ra, Brian and Genie, if there is anything at all Chelsie or I can do to help out, please don’t hesitate to contact us! We’d be more than happy to do anything we can.

  8. Hurray! I’m so excited that you’re actually coming *here* !! It will be wonderful I’m sure.

The Morrison House might be worth checking into – it’s not in D.C. per se – about 15 minutes south – but Old Town Alexandria is gorgeous and the Morrison House is full of history and whimsy.

Can’t wait to finally meet you come September!

  9. Kelly N says:

Oh Boy! I’m so excited! I’ve been wishing and hoping I could make it to a workshop since I found your blog last summer, and I think this will finally be it! I’m about a half hour outside DC, and would be happy to help in any way I can for you guys. Can’t wait to finally meet you!

  10. jeramy says:

i’ve never been to DC either. man! it’s on my list though. it would be interesting to take a photographic journey in DC from a different view point then the typical, historic landmarks. maybe look more of the contrast of the face of our country to the world vs. the people that actually live/survive in the area. have a great day!

  11. Kate says:

ARGH. I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for you to come do a workshop somewhere near me. I even had money I was planning to use if the opportunity came up. Thursday night my car broke down and needed $1200 in repairs – there went my workshop money and TODAY you post about a workshop just a couple hours away. I am going to try to be positive and believe that you’ll come back another time and this must not be what was meant to be. I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

  12. Melanie says:

Yay, another workshop!!! I’m a graduate of the Seattle workshop and for anyone considering attending a workshop – DO IT!! It really is inspirational, the women I met are fabulous, and the tips and skills learned are tremendous. So excited for all the DC attendees!!!

The homeschool excursion really is valuable. Have a great, great time, Me Ra & family!

  13. Aileen says:

    I.am.so.excited! This my dream.

    Now,

    howcanimakeithappen?howcanimakeithappen?howcanimakeithappen?

Will put some thoughts into some recommendations for you. There are some great places in Old Town Alexandria.

  14. Jenny J. says:

You should totally stay at The Tabard Inn. It’s so cool and old and full of character. It’s near Dupont Circle and super easy to get to. And surpisingly affordable.

It could also be a kickass place for the workshop, too, I think.

  15. So fun! I have never been to DC either. have fun girls!!!

  16. Michael says:

My wife is very excited and looks forward to signing up. Might be able to convince our 4 and 6 year old girls to model as well. The 6 year old is pretty mature and can take direction…when she wants to 🙂 The 4 year old is a major ham in front of the camera, but that sort of challenge might be worth tackling!

You can see some of my wife’s work at http://www.paulettejunge.com – she’s a great photographer looking for that little boost and your workshop will certainly help!

  17. Amy Keffer says:

WHOA!!! I now live with a few hours of DC. I wonder if I can make this happen… I’ll be VERY pregnant but definitely think this would be the opportunity of a lifetime. I also have a 3.5 year old daughter who would probably love the extra attention, and she’s a pleasant, happy little one.

Oooh, I also have a fantastic (not to mention absurdly good-looking) family with five little boys who might be a great addition. 😉

I used to live in the DC/Northern Virginia area, so let me do some thinking on places I’ve come up with.

  18. Amy Keffer says:

Are you looking to be specifically in the DC city limits, or are you open to the metro area (NoVa)? In DC, the Building Museum is a possibility, though I’m not sure how well the room I’m thinking of would be suited to a small gathering like this.

    The Library of Congress…?

And there was some kind of floral gardens/arboretum we had a teacher’s meeting at in NoVa (Chantilly, perhaps) that was a wonderful location. Large windows in the meeting room, and it was lovely inside.

  19. Katie Schoepflin says:

So would it be ok if I flew to Washington DC? haha this is a beginners workshop right?

  20. Any chance you will be doing the workshop in or near Missouri? Id love to attend.

  21. Michelle says:

I LOVE DC! There is so much history and so much to see! Your family will have a blast!!!

If you are on the fence about whether or not to attend the workshop, I suggest you just sign up!!!!!!!!! It is an amazing experience and you will leave a different person.

  22. Feuza says:

YUPPIEEEE, finally some loving for the East Coast, would totally drive the almost 5 hours to meet you and attend your workshop. can not wait to hear more.

  23. nicole says:

YAY!!!! i grew up in dc. you picked a great place. i should be able to come. so excited!!

  24. Genie says:

Hey everyone, thanks for the tips! Inside the Beltway would be great, the Tabard Inn is fabulous…but sadly unavailable, Addie & Chelsie – you ROCK with your offer to help!! Keep ’em coming! We’ve got some great options and can always use more 🙂

  25. Christina says:

Hi Me Ra, Brian and Genie,
First off, I am thrilled that you are coming to DC! It is a dream come true. I can’t stop thinking about it. I live in the Nothern Virginia area, very close to DC and would love to offer my help in any way I can. There is no task too big or too small. I was also wondering if you are any closer to nailing down dates. My in-laws are looking to come some time in September and before they buy tickets I want to make sure to tell them that whatever weekend you are coming is *off limits*!!!! Nobody’s gonna mess with my Me Ra and Brian workshop! This will be the first thing I have done for myself in over two years. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for coming to DC!!!!!!

  26. Amanda says:

ohmygoshohmygosh you are coming to where I live!!! (Well almost, I’m about 45 minutes out in NoVa.) I have a ‘baby’ you can use for modeling if you like! She’ll be 14 months old in September, I don’t know if that’s too old 😉

If you can’t find any available places in DC (I’m sure you’ll find some though), Loudoun County has some beauuutiful farmland and parks (so does Fairfax County for that matter) if you’re looking for a more “naturey” look.

I don’t suppose you’ll do any scholarships or free entries to this thing? (You know I have to ask, it’s worth the shot!)

  27. nicole says:

my mom lives in dc and suggested morrison house too.

  28. Chelsie says:

OH MY GOODNESS! You made my face light up. I am so happy for all the women who get to attend this workshop! I can’t believe your bringin it to the east coast! And seriously… if there is anything we can do to help let us know… three hours is a lot closer than 3 thousand miles and we are so more than willing to help! I just cant believe you are seriously coming to our side of the country! =) =) =) HOORAYY!

  29. […] do without you? Hope you had a great one! Two, we are working away at finding our location for the DC workshop ladies! Details and registration coming soon! After we get DC set, we’ll be looking more closely at […]

  30. melissa says:

Is the workshop, first come first serve? What is the limit of people? I would be interested in traveling from FL to D.C., but need to make my plans accordingly. I would love more information.

  31. Kim says:

    Hrmm… What about Savage Mill?

    http://savagemill.com/

It’s smack between Baltimore and DC so you’d sort of cover both. Of course then you wouldn’t be a short metro ride away from National Monuments and stuff.

I’ll have to talk to the partner, who will have a serious heart attack that I would consider this! But life is short!!

  32. You may want to check out Glenn Echo Park! It’s an old theme park from the 40’s that’s now closed. They still have events there, and have bumper cars, an old theatre, ballrooms, archades, etc. It’s kinda fun! They really are a gorgeous location!!
