Me Ra Koh

Christmas lights went up this weekend in our neighborhood. We even got our first Christmas card! Eeks! I’m still finishing off our pumpkin pie! I’m not ready for the holidays to be official! Are you? You know what, I don’t think it matters if we’re ready. I think the holidays are here whether we’re prepared or not. So let’s form a circle! Gather in! 🙂 We must support each other! I’ll support you tossing the leftover pumpkin pie as I make room for the eggnog. I’ll support you buying your own stocking stuffers b/c let’s face it, Santa doesn’t stuff our stockings the way mom did. So here we go ladies and gents; this is my Top Ten Stocking Stuffers for the Photo Enthusiast whether you are a beginner or pro!

Wow Me Ra, some great stuff on your list this year. Is the “Kids in Focus” DVD going to be available on your website?
    Thanks
    Judith

  3. jeramy says:

as an owner of 5 out of 10 of these recommendations…i concur! do you concur? yes, i concur! seriously, sharon WAS giddy about her jill-E bag. no joke…

  4. jeramy says:

oh….also….a little blog love….for all 3 of my readers. 🙂

  5. Jessica says:

I notice you mention the 50 mm 1.8 lense as your no. 2 item. I have been looking at the 50 mm 1.4. Is the 1.4 worth the extra money?

Love all your items. I am definitely going to check out the jill-e bags. 🙂

  6. Marcia says:

    Me Ra,

Thank you for this post! I simply copy and pasted the entire link in an email to my husband with the subject line: “Stuff I want for xmas”

The body of the email read: “I want #8”

I just was randomly checking our bank account and saw that he listened to me! See you have the power to pursuade any husband. I am going to try the same thing on a workshop and see if he is quick to purchase! 🙂

  7. Me Ra says:

Jessica, the 1.4 fstop is SO WORTH it! The buttery blurred backgrounds you get are just yummy. I can’t say enough about how much I love that lens. The kits lens that comes with your camera just doesn’t give the same to you.

And Marcia, Brian and I laughed out loud when we read your comment! I love that your husband already acted on your xmas list. What a great guy!

Judith, the Kids in Focus DVD is a shorter, revised version of our Refuse to Say Cheese/Beyond the Green Box w/specific chapters on the Sony Alpha 330. Not sure that we will be selling them ourselves. Right now, Sony Style or Sony.com is your best bet!

And Jeramy, ALWAYS good to see you here. 🙂

  8. Sarah Permeh says:

Can I just say how much I big puffy heart this new space?!! Awesome!

Number ten is on my list. Srsly. I borrowed it from a great-inspiring-art-major-friend of mine and cried when I had to give it back.

Santa, I’ve been good, right?! I mean, um, I think I’ve been good…

    I also LOVE #11:
The super-awesome-in-a-balmy-tropical-location-that-isn’t-minnesota Advanced Workshop hosted by MeRa and Brian.

It’s like you read my mind or something. 🙂

  9. jeramy says:

wow! marcia….that’s fast work. good for you! go for the workshop….seriously!

  10. Sara says:

Me Ra…I am hoping that Santa will bring me an external flash (#6), but I have a Canon Rebel. Can you recommend a similar flash that will work with a Canon? or are you a purely Sony girl? thanks.
    -Sara

  11. Kelly says:

I have the same qestion as Sara above except i’ve got a Nikon. Are there different levels of external flashes that will pivot up and down, but also side to side? (I’m thinking of Brian’s superball references). I don’t want to limit myself to just bouncing off the ceiling. When I read the descriptions online of different flashes it isn’t clear to me if they do that. I would appreciate any suggestions from other readers! 🙂

  12. Janice says:

OMG! Great ideas, MeRa! I have a question though. I’m fairly new to photography (I already have your two DVDs!!) and I shoot a Canon Rebel. I’m needing a good external flash. What would you suggest? (I need to leave a big HINT for hubby!!) The Sony won’t work on my camera, will it? Don’t I need a Canon?

Thanks for all you do. You have been my biggest inspiration!!

  13. Amanda says:

Great list! I gotta say though, I can never support throwing out pumpkin pie. 😉 Or any other pie for that matter.

Marcia, that is awesome! There is just something about the Me Ra + Brian team that must convince hubbies… ;p

  14. Jessica says:

Thanks Me Ra. I am definitely going to go with the 1.4. Thanks for all that you do and the amazing opportunities that you open up for all of us. 🙂

    I SUPPORT SOAR.

  15. Mike says:

This is a great list! Thanks Me Ra! I have no clue what to get Cathy most of the time when it comes to photography, so this is a great help. She uses a Nikon camera so not sure if the lens will work but could probably find something similar for Nikon. That is the hard part…everyone uses and likes different brands. What to do!?!?! I guess it is kind of like getting a tv for a guy…Sony? Samsung? etc. I personally…like Sony! Have a great holiday and again…thanks!

    I SUPPORT SOAR!

PS – LOVE the SOAR project!

I am about to purchase my Sony A330 copper brown camera and the buttery lense, but Sony also offers another lense 75/300mm zoom, as part of a bundle purchase.
