Burst of Light: Mistake?

Me Ra Koh

I’ve also been playing with light, but pushing my boundaries–especially with my iPhone.  Follow me on Instagram to see that process.

I find that many of us, myself included, can get stuck in expecting perfection of ourselves, and if the photo doesn’t look right– well…DELETE.  But maybe some photos are not meant to be perfect, not meant to be in an album, but rather hold a message or an idea that our creative spirit needs to hear.

Burst of Light, Me Ra Koh

As I looked at our camping photos, I almost deleted this one because of the over exposure on Blaze.  But I found myself coming back to it.  There is something here. There is something that this photo is wanting to tell me, teach me.  There is a daring perspective on capturing light that I haven’t fully explored.  This photo goes from being a mistake of over exposure to being a place marker for my creative spirit.

Go through some of the photos you’ve taken this summer.  Highlight a handful of the “mistake” photos.  As you look at what was a mistake at first glance, can you find any other message the photo is giving?  Maybe a new idea, a new perspective, a reminder of something buried?

I would love it if you shared what you find!

Jeramy, you simply crack me up! 🙂

  3. just found one of these in a session i was editing today! i prob would have thrown it out had i not read your post this morning 🙂 it’s a shot of a brother and sister laughing hysterically but they are backlit and part of the sister’s face is completely overexposed, similar to Blaze in this shot! SO glad i kept it because it is such a genuine photo. xo
