Remember all those things we used to blame on the devil?…

Me Ra Koh

This is a passage that’s been churning inside me all week…

Remember all those things, we used to blame on the devil?

And all those things we left up to God?

Now it’s a hundred times more complicated.  We must become new men or be satisfied as we are.

Either way, we risk tragedy.

-Sister Corita

…either way…we risk tragedy. wow.  If that’s true, might as well jump!

thoughts?  It’s powerful, don’t you think?

One of the things that has stuck with me from when I studied Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby is that praying for God to open and close doors and just waiting around for those doors is a cop out. It puts all the responsibility on God, thus allowing us to put all the blame on God and relieves us of our responsibility to walk in faith. Faith is about the jump. Yes, I need to hear from God to know where to jump – but the jumping is my responsibility.

    This song comes to mind:

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS
    © copyright Anne Barbour

I built my house here long side this mountain
This rugged mountain that stands so tall
I’ve had a good life above the lowlands
It’s more than I asked for, but less than I dreamed
I’ve often heard a voice call down to me
If you’d climb higher you’d find wondrous things to see
    BUT THE WAY IS STEEP
    AND A STORM MAY COME…

For such a time as this
Isn’t it much to great a risk
I’ve never flown from the edge of a cliff
    Never walked on the water
    But if I turned away
How would I know what I have missed
Have I waited all of my life
For such a time as this

I’ve been content to not ask those questions
That stir the waters and move the waves
The windless waters are so much more peaceful
They calm my spirit in silent song
I’ve often wondered what’s eluding me
The yearning’s meant to free me from complacency
    But the way is steep
    And a storm my come…

    Yes the jump is scary
(the way is steep and a storm may come)
But if I turned away how would I know what I have missed…

I believe the risk is worth it!

I think the devil has been given way too much credit for things happening in our lives. Along with the help and guidance of God we all need to take responsibility for the good that we have earned with hard work and the not so good that has happened because of fear or just bad decisions. Good words to ponder! Like you said we might as well jump either way we don’t know the outcome. Thankful today for all the Veterans.

A perfect followup to yesterday’s post. Your last couple of blog posts have been very poignant for me. To pause and take in what’s around you. To jump.

One of my favorite quotes is from the 1992 movie Strictly Ballroom,
“A Life Lived in Fear is a Life Half Lived”

I don’t want to live half a life… But I’m not so good at the jumping part. I’m trying.

    Jump.

Because either way we risk tragedy.
Because a life lived in fear is a life half lived.

I know this is WAAAAAAY off subject, but what do you think of the NEX-5?

  6. Personally, I do believe that there are powers and principalities of good and evil that we can not see. I do believe there is a God and an evil one. Although, I completely understand what I think your pov here is. Take responsiblity. If you wish to do something recognize your own fear. I believe that fear is originated by the devil because it is evil. There is not light in fear. Fear wants to stay in the hiding place of our mind. Our job is to call out that fear and call evil, evil. We have been equipped by the spirit of God to overcome. I do give thanks to God for allowing me to live each day. That part, HE has total control over. I think that I am responsible for my part…successes and failures. Work hard, reap the reward. Be lazy, reap consequence.

Was that like way too preachy? lol. Well, that is what I think anyway. I fear losing control over things. I have to deal with that on a constant basis. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. But, I will keep fighting that stupid fear.
