Hi Me Ra,
With sweaty palms and flushed cheeks, I’m going to go out on a limb and nominate myself for the “Running on Empty” contest. Here’s why I’m running on empty and would be unbelievably honored to join you and everyone else in San Diego!
My husband of nearly ten years, now 21-month old little boy, and I took an amazing leap of faith just over a year ago and left our family, friends and very deep roots in the Midwest to move to Colorado to set out on a new career opportunity for my husband. It was an incredibly difficult decision, and most definitely out of our comfort zone. The resulting past year has been a blur, and has drained our little family on so many levels. While he’s busy building his career, I’ve focused on my own work– raising the light of our lives, and fueling my creative passions to help make ends meet. Now, I’m no martyr, but as a family, we are all running on empty. We are still struggling to find ourselves and our comfort in this new place, an entire year later. While we are blessed in many ways, there’s something missing from our lives.
While my work is in design, my passion is photography and capturing beautiful moments. It renews me and helps me to view the world through a unique perspective. It’s what feeds my soul. I feel I have so much to give through what I create, and being able to attend the San Diego workshop would give me perspective and some much-needed inspiration for my creative spirit–not to mention the amazing energy of being around other women/photographers/moms!
I hope you’ll consider me to join you in San Diego–there are so many deserving women who have been nominated.
Many blessings,
Cathy
Hi Me Ra,
It’s 2 hours before the deadline ends and I hesitated to send in a note only because the last thing I want is to sound like a sad story. My husband lost his job over a year ago and has been unable to find steady work… to add to that I am a stay at home mom with 4 kids and am home-schooling 3 of them so working out of the house has not been an option. I sell on ebay and God has put many items in our path that have been able to help take care of our bills on many occasions. I have a wonderful son who is working and helps pay the bills, my girls do odd and end jobs and they pitch in too. I am so proud of them and what we are accomplishing as a family. It has certainly brought us closer together. I have been looking at the possibility of coming to one of your workshops when they come to TX…I am wanting to learn more so that I can try and get a photography studio started…photography has always been a passion of mine and now realize that it is the one constant throughout my life…here I am 41 and now realize that this is what I am supposed to be doing…we’re never too old. I would love to be able to attend your workshop, to relax, no worries ( for a short time) and be able to learn so that I can have something that allows me to work around my families schedule. My husband gets laid off quite a lot…he works for start up companies and the money runs out with the companies…the stress and fear can take over, I have had my ups and downs over the last year…right now I am definitely running on empty and would love to able to meet you and learn from you…hopefully I can take what I learn and start a business that will not leave us at the mercy of these companies and will allow me to do what I love…photography and teaching my children. They now have a passion for photography and I look forward to sharing what I learn.
I love your site…I have learned so much from you…you make it easy. J I love that.
Thank you for caring.
Blessings,
Laura
Wow..I just have to say that the people who are picking the winners have a TOUGH job ahead of them. All these stories touch my heart and there are so many women that need and would benefit from the workshop. I feel so lucky to be attending the workshop in Sonoma. I just know it is going to be just what I need to fill me up. Unfortunately, it seems to be such an epidemic of women “running on empty” as they try to balance the reality of mom and wife (and dad too) while trying to either start a business or feed their passions and souls. So glad that you are here to help women in this journey.
My goodness Me Ra. I just finished reading the nominations, and as a past recipient, so many of the comments resonate with me. There are so many deserving stories here and I have no idea how you will choose just one.
Meeting you and attending last year’s Advanced Workshop was such an incredible experience. You helped me realize my worth as a photographer which has been such an important step in making my business profitable. I’m now working fewer hours and earning more money giving me more time to work at being the best Mom I can to my children.
Like me, a lot of these Moms have spent some time in “crisis mode”. You’ve helped me define “crisis mode” in my life and I no longer feel helpless at these times. There’s a possibility that my little girl will be back for more surgery soon, but I’m no longer paralyzed by the anxiety of what lies ahead.
I just want to say that the Mom who wins this will truly be blessed to meet you, and I hope that someday they may all get to meet you.
