Wandered into the Garden…

Me Ra Koh

I had a whole list of things to work on yesterday since I was under the weather most the week.Β  But as 2pm rolled around, something called me into the garden.Β  I found myself grabbing my camera, leaving the computer and to-do list behind, digging for a Macro lens (a lens I rarely shoot with) and wandering into my garden that I just recently decorated so I put some statues and some glowing accesories from glowdecoration.com/ you can see here to learn more about gardening.Β  There was no goal, no objective, no assignment; I just found myself standing there wanting to experiment, expand and play.Β  These are a couple of my favorite!

Pop Quiz for my CONFIDENCE ladies!Β  This Dahlia photo was shot at a f-2.8, but the flower in the background looks way more buttery, blurry than a f/2.8!Β  Tell me why ladies?!Β  What makes that background flower so extreme in blur?!Β  πŸ™‚

I used the SONY Macro 100mm lens / f-2.8.Β  I fell so in love with the results of this lens that I named the lens “Lush” (short for Luscious!).

This next one is my favorite!Β  The colors, the lines and curves, ooooh, makes me crazy!

I started a game on Facebook yesterday, and you are all invited to play!Β  It ends at 4:15pm today!Β  This artichoke image is in need of a name or caption, post your idea(s) on my FB page along with the other comments and someone will win a $10 GC to Starbucks!Β  The game was totally random and just for fun, but as of last night at 8:48pm there were 43 comments–with some of the most fabulous ideas for captions or titles! Come join us!Β  CLICK HERE!

xoxo,

p.s. Only ONE more spot left in the Sacramento Workshop!Β  (it’s next weekend! woo hoo!!)Β Β  CLICK HERE to grab it!

p.s.s. Listen for the invitation to wander with your camera this weekend.Β  You never know what you may capture!Β  If you’d like, share it on FB with me!

I can’t see the pics! (boo) But if I had to guess, you were close to the flower. The closer you are to the subject you are focusing on, the faster the background goes from in focus to blurred. πŸ™‚

  2. Becky Talbert says:

I cannot see the pictures either. This is the first time this has happened so I do not know what went wrong. And I would really like to see them since I use my Macro lens often to photograph flowers and insects.

Really, so weird! Let me check into it!

  4. Me Ra says:

I think the photos are coming up now. Sorry about that. Weird!

I LOVE Dahlias. Really. They are my all time favorite flowers. And yours are really beautiful!!! I’ve tried to grow them here, but even in the shade it just gets too hot for them. So yes, I am a little bit jealous πŸ™‚
And I’d say the answer to your question is compression. You are pretty close to the front flower and have a decently long lens at 100mm.

Oh yes, and I’m also pretty jealous that you have artichokes growing in your garden – another favorite of mine (in the food sense, not the flower sense.)

  6. Kelli Kalish says:

Oh my goodness! That first photo is stunningly beautiful IMO!

  7. Freida Hall says:

so glad you took the time to wander into your garden – beautiful photos. the garden, like the ocean…. seems to have this ability to let you center, re-focus, get calm, heal, reflect…. a whole bunch of goodness can be found there. much love! πŸ™‚

  8. beautiful!! I wish i had a garden in my yard!!!

Im going to say that the answer to the question is that the flower in the background is further away so it became blurrier?

  9. Becky Talbert says:

Yeah, the flower photos are there. Absolutely beautiful!! Thanks for fixing whatever was wrong. I’m so glad I did not miss out on these. πŸ™‚
