Don’t React

I absolutely LOVE this photo from a shoot I did in Dallas, TX!  Is this moment genuine or what?!

New baby brother has arrived, but big brother (aka the toddler) is not impressed.  This is one of my favorite dynamics to capture in a family.  Toddlers keep me on my toes, especially when there is a new baby in the home.  One of my biggest tricks for engaging toddlers in photos is “Don’t React”.  When this moment happened, the parents obviously wanted to react.  But that will just make the toddler withdraw even more.  Give the toddler some wiggle room.  Go on with the photos, and accentuate what a GREAT time you are having.  When they see how much they are missing out on, they will become interested again.

(But seriously, I LOVE this moment!  This is why I do photo shoots.  You can’t make this stuff up!)
