First Year: 12-Month Baby Milestones

Jennifer Tacbas

Jen here with a First Year post about 12-month baby milestones I have enjoyed capturing with my camera!

Is it me, or does it seem like it was just yesterday that I was taking pictures of Logan holding up her head for the first time or cutting her first tooth? It is amazing how fast time has flown by and how much Logan has grown over the last 12 months.

I am so thankful that I have often photographed and written about Logan’s current milestones because they were always changing, just like she was.

So at just under one year of age, here is a peek into some of Logan’s newest developments!

New Foods for New Teeth

Logan now has 8 teeth – an even set of four on top and four on the bottom – and a first year molar on the way. (We do not like you, first year molar. You are pure evil. Show yourself already!) With all those teeth comes new and improved chomping power for chewing up her new favorite table foods! Logan loves roast chicken, meatloaf and mac & cheese. Fruits she did not like pureed, such as bananas and apples, she LOVES cut up into pieces. It’s so great to be able to share some of my favorite foods with Logan during mealtime!

Pointing It Out

Logan’s pointer finger is ALWAYS OUT. It’s also usually accompanied by a “Hmm!” sound. She is always discovering something new. If you put something new in the room, she finds it immediately. So observant, this kid is! Logan loves it when I tell her the name of the thing to which she is pointing, and quickly point to the next thing. And with the shiny and bright Christmas season in full swing, there is never a shortage of new things to see.

Hugs for Everyone

Logan loves to hug her Momma and Daddy. It’s just the best thing ever when I get a hug out of the blue! When we FaceTime chat with Daddy during his workday, she often puts her forehead to the phone to give Daddy a long distance hug. How sweet! While we receive a lot of affection from our little girl, the majority of Logan’s hugs go to her stuffed animal friends. I can’t wait for her to discover the Logan-sized Mickey Mouse plush that is waiting for her under our Christmas tree! I’m sure he will be the recipient of many hugs for years to come.

These Feet Were Made For Walking

Last month, Logan began standing up in the middle of the room and balancing, unassisted. This month, she took her first steps all by herself! Although she can walk a few steps without help, she gets so much excitement from holding onto Momma’s or Daddy’s hands and walking all over the house. She gets faster every day!

Future Gymnast?

As if walking wasn’t enough… Logan loves when Daddy holds her upside down to do a handstand. But just today she began walking on her hands while doing a handstand. What that what?! I have a feeling this one is going to be quite the active little lady. I hope I can keep up!

Well, friends…I hope you will meet me here next Monday for my very last First Year post. My final post is going to be an open letter to my daughter, and it will feature some of my favorite photos from our first year together plus one new special one. I have an idea of what I want to tell her, but I haven’t written my letter yet. I already have a huge lump in my throat just thinking about it. What a bittersweet time for this new momma of a very special soon-to-be one-year-old.

  1. Wow, she is walking on her hands while help upside down?! That is crazy! She will be a gymnast or cheerleader for sure.
