Jen here with another First Year post!  Today I am sharing with you how much my baby LOVES music!

Music has always been a very big part of my life and was my first love.  Choir concerts, piano lessons, show choir, jazz vocals, musical theater performances…for the first 25 years of my life, if it had to do with music, I was most likely a part of it.  While my passion for music found me performing across the country and abroad, many of my favorite musical moments took place at home.  I come from a family where my mom, sisters and I can turn anything into a song…sometimes even with 4-part harmony! (We are not for the faint of heart. Ha!)  So when Logan began showing her love for music – and proving she can keep a steady beat! – you know I was tickled pink.

Before she could even hold her head up, if Logan heard a tune, she would stop whatever she was doing, and turn her head toward the music…even if we were in another room.  One of her first favorite songs was the catchy jingle in the Prius TV commercial!  So funny, right?  These days, Logan enjoys listening to all types of music, her favorites being oldies, 70’s funk, 80’s, reggae (where did that come from?), and pretty much anything with a good beat.  We listen to music all day long, which is the perfect accompaniment to snacking on some toys.

Speaking of toys, some of her current favorites encourage her to make her own music.  I have to confess – I have one app on my phone for babies, and it’s a piano.  If Logan’s beginning to fuss, and I need to buy a little time while we’re out and about, she is finds contentment in a jam session while I finish my errands.  At home, she enjoys banging away on the piano that is a part of this educational toy.

When switched to a different setting, all the buttons on this toy play a different snippet of a song.  Logan likes to press them one at a time, and if she finds a tune she likes, she dances and bops her little body to the beat. Just a few days ago, she also began clapping to the music.  SO CUTE!

It is so neat to see how much my daughter already loves music.  I look forward to sharing my passion for music with her, drumming on pots and pans, and singing songs together.  Until then, the two of us will happily continue to enjoy rockin’ out to her favorite tunes.
