First Year: First Time Flying With Baby Update

Jennifer Tacbas

Jen here with another First Year post on flying with baby!

Last week’s post was about preparing for Logan’s first flight, as we were traveling from Georgia to Ohio to visit my family. I was so concerned about Logan’s happiness and comfort on both flights, so I planned for the worst and hoped for the best. Well, I’m writing to you from Ohio, so…we more than survived flying with baby!  Haha  And I’m happy to report that we had a really good experience!

We boarded the first plane and the flight attendant gave Logan her very own set of wings!

We sat in the back section of the plane, which I dubbed, “The Land of Men Flying Solo.” My seat mate offered to sit elsewhere so I could nurse Logan with more privacy, which was really nice. And lucky me – Logan slept the whole way!

The second flight was a whole other experience because Logan was WIDE awake! Thank goodness she was a happy camper for most of it. The toys I packed came in handy because she was such a busy body. Mid-flight, I also slowly fed her the fruit purée I brought to both keep her attention and curb her appetite. On the decent, she got a little fussy while nursing, and I think maybe her ears popping were bothering her. But by the time the wheels touched down on the runway, she was back to smiling at the other passengers and shaking her rattle.

Thank you to all you moms who sent me words of encouragement and additional travel tips in the comments section of last week’s First Year post as well as in private messages via Facebook. You definitely helped to make our first time flying a happy experience!

I’m wrapping up my Ohio visit today and feel much more at ease about our return flights home. Meet me here next Monday for some of the highlights from our family-focused trip and photos of Logan’s newest firsts!

First Year Cheers!
Jen
