I’m a Cowgirl: Photographing Kids at Play

Me Ra Koh

There are few things greater than photographing kids at play, just your children being themselves.

Guess what Gigi Ma (great grandma) bought for Pascaline?

Yep, a holster and gun. And someone is taking it very seriously!

Oh my goodness!!! These are so funny, I almost felt as if I was there. You are so amazing at capturing the moment. You really are an inspiration. SPIDER-MAN COWBOY is just to good. The office was wondering what in the world I was laughing so hard at, but I just wasn’t ready for that. Thanks for all your effort in sharing these images. I look forward to your bolg everyday!

i have to start by telling you how helpful your blog has been for me- i love that you share tips and setting that you find work awesome together! i do however have a question. im just starting my photography career and would like your advise on setting prices for myself. It seems like such a hard task because on one hand i would like to just get experience as possible (without people taking advantage) and on the other hand- money is very helpful. Where is the balance? And how do i know what im worth?

Your photography is beautiful! I took a moment to read your “About” page. The words fail me to convey how deeply your story touched my heart -being a rape victim myself and I don’t talk about it. (heavy sigh) Many Blessings! ang.

    Hey Me Ra,

Those photos are priceless! My favorite is the one of Pascaline letting her hair blow in the wind! Well, my second favorite is Blaze of course! Your’re the best. Thanks for always sharing!

OH I love Pioneer Woman I’ve been following her blog for quite a while now. If you haven’t read the “black heels & tractor wheels series” you should it’s amazing.

Guess having to wait almost a year just made Pascaline more excited. She is really a natural, gun and holster and her pink hat did really make her a special “Cow Girl”. Blaze is something eles again. Love Gigi Ma

    Ashley–

If you need to build your portfolio, I would start out charging a couple close friends your costs involved. When you have 3-4 different families to build a beginning portfolio, I’d raise your price out of costs. I started charging $85 an as my confidence grew I went up. Brian laughed at me through the first year b/c I raised my price five or six times when I realized how much work goes into a portrait shoot AFTER you’re done shooting. If you know you’re worth more, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Chances are you’re not giving yourself enough credit for how great you really are.

And most of all, take a deep breath. Let the learning curve be an adventure and not something that makes you feel as if you have to have it all right “right now”.

In my Advanced Workshop, we cover pricing and what to offer clients. Maybe I’ll see you one day! 🙂

I couldn’t agree more, Pascaline is a total card… she is awesome! Very fun pictures

Those crack me up…I love how you capture both of their personalities.

  14. LOL Prince Philip is big enough to actually be a horse 🙂

Pascaline, can I borrow your cool cowboy hat next time I visit?

    Miss you guys,

    Rachel

I had to laugh, we have the same spiderman outfit for my 4 1/2 year old boy. And theres something about kids and guns, it’s not just boys. The kids LOVE them, even a stick will do! Love seeing your kid and family pics. I had to start my a blog for my son…

I’ve just stumbled upon your blog, though I’ve known about you’re work from the past while doing wedding photographer research last year. These photos(along with all your others) are amazing! I love the shot of Pascaline letting her hair blow in the wind, that really captures the moment, the day, the feeling. Absolutly adore it. Thanks so much for sharing that moment, and thank you for all your tips about photography. Photography has always been my underlying passion, and I am trying to make it a more prominent focus in my life. Your tips really help me, and encourage me to keep that focus. Thank you so much for that. I am so upset that I missed the Seattle Workshop (I live just north of Seattle) you recently held. Hopefully I can catch another one in the future! Take care.
