Sony and Me Ra

Because of You!!! and Are We Meeting Up Tonight!!!

Me Ra Koh

Because of you and all your input, things were different this year!

I have waited a whole year to try some of your great ideas. Do you remember us talking about this? I had posted last year about how hard my birthday and Valentine’s Day are b/c of painful trauma from my past. A number of you sent me emails and posted blog comments with your suggestions on how to change all that–how to not let my birthday be robbed on top of every thing else I lost. Your suggestions were wonderful, and like I said, I have waited a whole year to try them out!

So yesterday, I woke up, kissed Brian and the kids goodbye and drove north to meet one of my best friend’s from college. We had tea, walked around Green Lake, laughed, cried–it was perfect. Then I spent some time wandering through a few favorite shops, looking at books, and feeling the freedom of not having anywhere to be. For dinner, I met up with my three roommates and dearest friends from college, we made dinner together and had the best night.

In the past I’ve struggled with the idea of being gone all day b/c the kids are excited for mom’s birthday and want to celebrate with me too. But I think you all helped me see last year that I need to get out, be proactive at fighting old memories and surround myself with friendship. That is what I did. I took all your suggestions, created something new, Brian kissed me goodbye and off I went into my birth day. It was wonderful…and I couldn’t help but think it was largely because of YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

And oh my goodness, thank you for the OVERWHELMING number of birthday wishes on Facebook and emails yesterday. I can’t imagine feeling more loved.

So are we having coffee tonight or what? 🙂

  1. glad you had such a peaceful, renewing and even victorious day on your birth where you were able to do things a little bit different.

it’s interesting how sometimes we have to go back to other parts of ourselves to have a look ahead at the next chapter in our life story.

embracing every part of our selves. where we come from, what we’ve been through, who we are now, and how all of those things combined lead us to where we want to go, where we are supposed to go.

what a great way to start this new year of your life journey~

    best~ Carrie

You know, you are such a great example of remaining open and willing to change, grow, and evolve. It seems like in the general world, the status quo is to settle and harden in your ways. It’s so expected. But in the photography world we have with you, it’s completely different…it’s such a breath of fresh air and so encouraging to be around other people like us that know in our hearts that true fulfillment comes from WELCOMING change and true strength from knowing that you CAN change almost anything in your life for the better, no matter what.

    Love you! Happy Birthday!

  11. It is one thing to have a family that loves and supports you, but to have the balm of friends who love you, understand you and support you without question is incredible.

What a wonderful way to kick of a powerful year!
