Saturday was one of our Beginner Workshops for Women, and we had a BLAST!!! Brian and I loved every minute and every woman.
Here’s some of the feedback we’ve already received from them. Brian and I are simply overwhelmed at what they’ve shared.
“I’ve had the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO lecture more times than I can count. This was the first time I’d heard it from a woman’s perspective, and the first time it really made sense!”
“I feel like I’m not just a better “photographer” but a better person! Thank you!”
“I loved the analogies as they weren’t technical but instead practical.”
“Me Ra has a gift in being able to teach technical material in a learnable way.”
“I love how you took the stress and anxiety that I came with (lack of knowledge of my camera) and now I am leaving with more confidence!”
“This is going to sound corny, and I promise you I am not a stalker, but just getting to hang out with Me Ra and Brian. I just wanted to soak them in as much as as possible!”
“This was the BEST day I’ve had in a long time…it was so nice to wade through and be challenged, laugh along the way, conquer a fear, and leave wanting more. What a day! I can’t thank you enough!”
Here’s one that Kari already sent me! Kari you are AMAZING!! I love how you framed this with the leaves!
Here’s one I caught of Melissa. Melissa looked so beautiful. Can you believe she flew out from Vermont! We’re going to see if we can find a way to do a workshop on the East Coast in the Vermont area! Anyone interested? ๐
Here’s one of the great shots Melissa caught while I was taking a picture of her!
This is a shot I took of the women during the inside photo shoot of baby Lily and big brother Dalton. You probably think I’m silly for saying this, but I love this shot b/c of how enthusiastic and excited they were while we practiced the techniques we’d been learning all morning. Wait till you see what they captured!!
Same light, same window, but it’s so cool to see the different images women took.
This one is so beautiful. Carol took this and the lighting is so clean, white and soft. It’s just stunning. Great job Carol!
This one was by Marianne. Isn’t this amazing!!! I love mom’s eyes and how soft the whole thing is!
This one is by Judy. Judy doesn’t even own an SLR yet. She came and borrowed one of ours and look at what she was capturing! You’re AWESOME Judy! The composition on this is so wonderful!
This next image is by Kari! I just die over the expression Kari caught!
Kari was also one of the winners for the “Running on Empty” contest! It was so wonderful to have her join us, and Brian and I got the special treat of having dinner with her after the workshop. We laughed so much my side hurt! (love you Kari!)
Beautiful shot of mom and baby by Heidi. And Heidi also does AMAZING still life of flowers! Heidi, it was so fun having you in the group!
This is a beautiful sibling shot that Jenny captured.
Jenny was so much fun! She bought one of our Me Ra Koh Photography, designer shirts, and I made her model for me! ๐ But how could I not, she’s so beautiful!
There was a bunch of fun shots that women took of Dalton and Lily’s feet, I think we even got Dalton’s dad to take off his shoes and socks. I thought I’d show you a few b/c I loved how every woman had such a different eye and point of view.
This was a great one by Leslie. It was especially fun to hear that Leslie had hear about our blog from a friend of mine in graduate school (Michelle-one of the nicest, sweetest women you’ll ever meet!). And so Leslie decided to fly out from Indiana for the workshop! (Leslie, you are so sweet and I can’t thank you enough for the beautiful cards you brought. I LOVE the colors and design on them!)
Andy, took this, and I love how she centered Dalton’s feet and blurred his little legs and arms out. Perfect!
We all oo’ed and awed when this shot came up during the Critique Session. Debbie, you nailed it for sure! Who says we need both their feet, why not one of each! I love your eye on this!
Jen captured this shot, and I loved the circular motion in it with his feet up front and his body blurred as he stretches out on the cough. Wonderful Jen!
Here’s one Brian snuck in while dad was tickling Dalton.
And here’s one I grabbed of big brother.
Now for the “sexy” shots of the day–caught by yours truly!!!! (drum roll…)
Sorry ladies, he’s totally taken. ๐

oh.my.goodness. The ones by Judy and Kari – how incredible!!! I love posts like this!!!!
The workshop looked like so much fun, and so many of you captured such beautiful shots ! I am so excited to get out there later this month and meet all of you who will be there too ! AND I am ALL FOR an east coast workshop – Me Ra and Brian , tell us what we can tempt you guys with : chocolate, wine, eager participants, baby sitters ?!?! (am I getting closer !?!) Let us know ! thanks for the post, it is so great to see what you guys did this weekend ! Thanks Karry ๐
We would love to come to Kansas and the East Coast! You know what, I’ll post today what we would all need to do to make it happen!
Oh my god, I almost died when I saw one of my pictures posted on your blog! The workshop was so much fun this weekend! It was even better than I expected, and I learned so much. Yay! I can’t wait for the advanced session!
i love these pictures and wish i could come to one of your workshops!!
i am all for an east coast workshop (i am in boston)!
looks like you had a blast! check out that rim light in the shot of brain! … see, i soaked up some workshop knowledge in session one. ๐
brain for brian must have been a freudian slip!
Vote for east coast!!
It was a great day and I am certainly feeling filled up and ready to be a mom and wife. There is something about a group of creative women together, laughing, talking, eating, etc. that is so refreshing. I wish it could’ve gone on and on! Of coure, my husband isn’t too thrilled that I want to go out and buy a $1500 lens and throw my current one in the garbage. ๐ He’ll get over it. Love you Me Ra and Brian.
That’s funny. Spelling my name BrAIn instead of BrIAn is a common mistake a lot of people make. I wonder why? I’d like to think it’s because I’m sooo smart, but I think my daughter may say it’s because I’m a smarty pants.
What does she know. She’s only 6.
Hey Me Ra!
The workshop looks and sounds like a blast. I can’t wait to hear about the beginner workshop in January. I think I better ask for a camera for Christmas!
Love you guys!
Sue
Another vote for an East Coast Workshop. Only wish I could have made it to Seattle for this one – looks like it was a blast!!
Hi Me Ra! Looking forward to the Advanced workshop coming up. I read that you are going to be sending out some pre-workshop things that we need to bring/prep. Can you send your assignments out sooner (vs later) as I will be out of town the entire week leading up to your workshop. So if I can get ahead this week that would be best. See you soon!
Looks like we definitly need to plan something for the East Coast in 2008! How does Martha’s Vineyard sound? Just an idea…
i will hope to come someday to one…man…i’m already learning & getting inspired from the blog…moooooooore…as the song by britney spears’ plays on the radio…mooore moore hahaha!! anyways…glad yall had a lot of fun!!!!
i think martha’s vineyard would be a great setting! i’m just wondering if people who might fly in for this would have the added hassle of figuring out how to get there?
BANG BANG BANG…that is the sound of me pounding my feet on the ground…I want to come to a workshop………so badly!
I am ready to rip my hair out trying to “get” the technical aspect of photography…f-stop, exposure, shutter…all those numbers, I just can not wrap my brain (or brian ๐ around it!
Me Ra, please tell me that this information will be in the “beyond the green box” DVD that I am patiently waiting for??
My goal for next year is going to be to attend one of your seminars!
How fun to see my Vermont pal, Melissa, in action at your workshop. I’m so proud!
It would be the coolest of the cool if you had a Vermont workshop someday.
I would sign up first!

I would attend the East Coast Workshop! I live in RI!

Me Ra, I would love it if you did a two-day workshop on the East Coast. I’m considering coming out to you for this one, but if you were to do one out here that would be SO much easier! (20 minutes North of NYC.) Martha’s Vineyard sounds great!! I would certainly attend a full weekend.
