Vote and Win Two Different Ways!

Me Ra Koh

We had almost 100 pumpkin photos come in for the contest–from Georgia to Washington!! Wow!!! That’s a lot of pumpkin shooting!

I can’t tell you how COOL it was to here from each of you. The stories behind why you took the shots were so wonderful, and on top of that it was like sugar on top to hear what dvd exercises inspired you. We really are in the midst of a beautiful revolution!

So how do we choose finalists? Man, this was super hard! I looked at every image three times, and I went back and took the ones that stuck in my mind most. I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I did with all of them. They are totally inspiring!

Here are the Five Finalists! (couldn’t narrow it down any more than five–you’ll see why…)

Finalist 1–This image stuck out b/c of the endlessness I felt as the corn stalks stand high above the little ones. I can almost feel their curiosity. I also loved the lighting. Great job!!!

Finalist 2–I couldn’t get this little girl’s expression out of my mind. I love how her mom captured the pure excitement and filled the frame in her composition. Awesome!

Finalist 3–This mom really took a different approach, and I loved it. She shot down, and went an extra step by incorporating a sweet little head piece. Wow–beautiful!

Finalist 4–This image was well composed. I loved the big tree in the background. Remember how we talk about making sure your background accentuates your photo’s story? I love how the big tree makes this little guy seem that much smaller. The color is beautiful and composition is right on. Very cool!

Finalist 5–Do I even have to say? 🙂 This mom totally nailed the unexpected moment. Talk about Documenting Your Child’s Life. Good for you!

Cast your vote and be the winning finalist or the winning voter!!

To vote for the winner, post your choice by clicking on “Comments” below (it’s in hot pink and under “Email This”). Leave a special note on why you love their shot. What a gift that would be even if they don’t end up being the winner.

AND, remember, we’re going to pick a random voter to win something special too!

TWO winners will be announced on Friday!! What is the random voter getting? Still trying to decide between three things. Just have to check back. 🙂

I have to go with finalist 5! I laughed out loud, which of course had my kids on the scene in a flash. They thought it was even funnier and their giggles won my vote. 🙂 This image made my day!

  2. Tracey says:

I vote for #5! Tender and unique! Great job 🙂

  3. Amanda D says:

    Finalist 2.

I love this photo because it’s so natural and real. This is one that will be treasured 20 or 40 or 60 years from now that captures her face wonderfully and her expression is priceless. It’s the most personal. All the others are beautiful and great photos, but to me this one says the most about the subject- the bubbly little girl.

  4. Amie says:

My first vote is #5. I went through all the pictures and that one stands out by far!! Great Job to everyone! They are all great images.

  5. Rebecca says:

number 5 for sure! What a priceless photo!!

  6. Jess says:

I’d like to vote for #1.

When I viewed the photo, it was like going back to my childhood. How I enjoyed the crisp fall air, bright sunshine, and wearing my favorite sweatshirt again…but most importantly, how I absolutely loved playing in the cornfields with my brother! They are the memories I still treasure to this day.

I love how the photographer shot in black and white – muting the vibrant autumn colors to focus on this relationship. Well done. Thanks so much for sharing!

  7. Liza says:

    Finalist #1 for sure!
I loved the light coming through the cornstalks and how they’re distinctively taller than the two small children walking through it. Also the bigger kid is helping the littler one through the corn maze…how cute!

  8. Patricia says:

Though I love them all it’s #5 hands down! I can relate SO MUCH to this image(I have 4 boys of my own) the nakey, the cowboy boots, the pup(insert sweet sigh)…what more can I say. OH the pumpkin…the hat…the mood…it’s JUST PERFECT EMOTION!!

There ALL really good though keep up the great work girls!

  9. Leah says:

Number 5 has to be the best, I loved number one too, but it number 5 really was a candit moment it takes the cake!

my vote is for number 5!

  10. Dorian says:

I’m voting for #1 because the emotion I get from it. It touched me.
I am telling my mom’s group about #5. They are all very fun.

  11. Heather says:

These are all great! Love them. Since I have to choose, I am going to go for #1. Love the sweet timeless feeling it creates. My second choice, altough I know it doesn’t count, would be the boy with the wagon. (Your DVD is on my Christmas Wish List!)

  12. Jen Sulak says:

    I’m voting for #3

I absolutely think the COLOR of it draws me in. Itz the combination of her head piece, her skin, her clothes and the pumpkin to the side that I find very stunning & unique here. SO THATZ MY VOTE!!!!!

  13. I have to say #5 for sure. Funny with the bare bum, cute with the dog and I love the lighting. Beside, when he is 20 something years old and his mom uses this picture for his wedding collage, she needs to be able to say “I won something for this picture” so his embarrasment will be totally worth it.

  14. Gail says:

I’m voting for Photo #4. The composition is great! I’ve seen what appears to be that silhouette effect (blackened edges) on other photographers’ photos before. Any tips, Me Ra, on how to achieve that? Is that a special touch in Photoshop?

  15. Jenny says:

My vote is for #5. This indeed is a precious moment!

  16. Monica McBride says:

#1. You mentioned an endlessness, which I totally feel in the photo, but what I love the most about it is its timelessness. LOVE everything about #1!! (The others are great too!)

  17. Amanda says:

Wow imagine my surprise upon checking my e-mail and finding out i’m a finalist, how exciting! I will have to vote for #1 because it’s mine and I want that camera 😉 no seriously I love my photo. It reminds me of the long journey of life these two little ones have in front of them. Thank you for your votes and for all the lovely comment’s!
    #5 is sooo funny!

  18. Jamie says:

Have to vote for #1. Maybe I’m a sucker for black and white, and maybe it’s just a perfect shot. Maybe both 🙂

  19. Detra says:

I have to vote for finalist #1, but I can definitely see how you would have a problem choosing out of all of the pictures! My goodness, I had a hard time with five!!! This one really stood out to me because of the “classic-ness” of the photo. I love that the children are holding hands and walking away from the camera. It almost seems as if they have stopped, unsure of what may be ahead. I also LOVE that it is in black & white. I almost never use B&W this time of year because the colors are so beautiful, but it definitely gave this picture a different feeling. This one would have a place on my wall all year long! Great job!!!

  20. sharon says:

WOW! It’s so hard to pick… I’m going to have to go for 5. I can see why each one was picked. They all made me smile. Tender, Sweet, Touching, Adorable and to dang GREAT! All of them wonderful pictures!

  21. I LOVE #5.. my vote!

  22. jen says:

number 1! it’s timeless and totally evokes emotion. i love it.

  23. Jimmy says:

Great pics! Great job everyone. Pic#1 is my favorite. The B&W is timeless.

  24. Devin says:

I love #1. My vote goes there! It looks natural and not posed, while also having a beautiful arrangement and really capturing an incredible mood and time of life….I vote for that definitely!

  25. Aileen says:

I have to vote for #1. Its a classic. The photographer totally captured the moment… and it give me a warm feeling just looking at it.

  26. erin says:

#3~ What a beautiful shot. It seems to have come from another world and another time.

  27. Oh I love them all, they all will be precious memories of their little ones.

I think #1 really felt like it captured a special moment but then I have a fondness for kids holding hands, plus it looked like a shot I could not have taken with my limited photography skills lOL
    Valerie

  28. Cathy Kalepo says:

    I vote for #1

  29. Roberta says:

Every picture is good but I have to vote for #1 because the artist captures a moment that makes me think about the journey of these children’s lives and my own journeys both past and present. It shows one that the path is open and that life is journey in the making; were we write, edit and publish our own stories along the way. Great work #1! I hope you win.

  30. Misty says:

I LOVE #3! I saw it and gasped, because she looks just like me when I was little. (With the exception of the cuter clothing nowadays.) And that totally evoked emotion in me, and caused me to think back on my childhood, and all the things that used to just thrill me! I love how excited she is!

  31. Misty says:

Shoot! I meant to say #2!! The little girl holding the pumpkin.

  32. Gale says:

I vote for #1 – Love the use of B&W and the capture of the “moment”….

  33. Van says:

Wow, all great pictures. It is hard to choose. If I had to pick one, it would be #1 because it reminds me that we are never too small to help someone out in this big, intimidating surrounding whether it is a corn maze or the world. It’s nicer to walk through it with a friend.

  34. Svetlana says:

I have to vote for #1! I love the black and white and the timelessness!

  35. rach says:

I vote for #5! Great photo and great “out of the box” thinking–creative!

  36. Michelle says:

What an honor to be picked as a finalist! I’m #2 so of course I’ll vote for that but I love how they are all such different kinds of pictures. It’s nice to see that there are so many fun ways to interpret the same subject.

  37. ALMIN says:

I vote for #1 for sure…it is very different from the others. It’s an absolute CLASSIC.

  38. D. says:

I truly love #1 it is just a classic photo showing the timeless wonders of childhood.
I have to say I love black and white photo’s and the light shining thru the cornfields is just amazing. Great photo

  39. Brian C. says:

I’ve got to say #5. Just shows so much about the innocence of youth.

  40. Josie says:

wow! I like #1 the most. It definately speaks to me. It’s so simple but yet speaks so loud and generates curiosity. I appreciate how she capture this moment. This is a picture that I could put up in my wall. It’s timeless!

    I vote for #2 – too cute!

#1 The dream quality of the photo adds to the timelessness of siblings sharing a close moment.

  45. Manon says:

Wow these pictures are just amazing. These woman are great photographers. I canßt really decide which one is the best, but I have to.
So I take #4. I just love how this little guy is pulling his wagon. Really cute.

    Hugs Manon

  46. Debbi says:

I vote for #1 – it’s classic, it shows uncertainty but protectiveness in the older child; complete trust in the younger. It is not the picture most people take at the pumpkin patch. If this picture were of my children, I would treasure it forever.

  47. Maya says:

    #4

They are all great, I wish I could vote for all of them!

But I love the “feel” of #4 and the vignetting. I like the colors and composition.

  48. Camille says:

I followed Me Ra’s lead – LOVE them ALL – FANTASTIC shots everyone – but it will be image #5 that sticks in my mind long after the contest ends!

  49. Kari says:

Ok, so I am voting for the one that I would most want of one of my own kids — #3. While all the pictures are AMAZING, I feel that this one captures the innocence of a child and the Autumn colors and flavors. So, this is the pumpkin-y, halloween-y picture I would want of my little ones.

  50. Stephanie says:

#5 just pulls at my heart strings! I adore the connection between the puppy and the child.

  51. jenny says:

they are all great and each photographer should be proud of themselves!

my vote has to go to #5. it reminds me of my son and all his little quirky things he does when nobody is watching (wink, wink)!

runner up would be #4. great composition!

  52. Patty says:

I love #1. Black and white is my favorite. What a moment to capture!

  53. Jason says:

    #5…without a doubt!

  54. Chelsea says:

I love #1… it is unique, unending, leading.. and I love that it is a black and white “pumpkin” picture. Unusual and creative… love the sun flare as well in the black and white.. makes it all the more emotive. Great shot!!

  55. Denise says:

The one with the big tree in the backround – and the little guy pulling the wagon – it’s so unique – you don’t see images like that one very often!

  56. Sili says:

    #1: that’s why it’s number 1

  57. Karena says:

I vote for #1! I love the composition of this picture. Black and white makes it classic and something I would use as artwork for my house.

  58. Sili says:

    #1: that’s why it’s number 1.

  59. Jess Niles says:

    Oh this is tough…
I’m going to go with #5 for the same reason someone else mentioned… out-of-the-box thinking! And here I thought I had to go to a pumpkin patch for pumpkin pictures! ;P
I’ll remember that lesson for next time.
    Great job everyone!
    Next contest please!?!

  60. marje says:

nr 4 imo is so adorable

  61. marje says:

4 is so adorable, so my vote goes to him

  62. Dinea says:

I love #1 for the emotion, but also #3 because of the composition and color. # 3 is otherworldly with the leaf headress and yet evocative of the essence of childhood. I vote #3.

  63. Pauline says:

I vote for #1. All this pictures are awesome but #1 stands out for me. This photo easily be in a calendar or postcard. The photographer truly captured the feeling of autumn. The children in the picture seems like they are in a hurry to finish their journey. This picture illustrates a story for me.

  64. Susan says:

This is tough. It’s between 1 & 4 but I have to say that #1 did it for me. This is s great picture. It brought me back to my childhood years. Great lighting too.

  65. Betsy says:

Oh so hard to pick! If I have to pick one, it’s #1. Beautiful eye!

  66. Katy says:

I choose #2 because it captures best the exuberance of kids going to the pumpkin patch (#3 is a close runner-up). I’ve seen that very face on my own girls. But they’re all beautiful photos…

  67. Brynn says:

I vote for #1, it is a strikingly beautiful photo that really captures the mystery and adventure I associate with the pumpkin patch and childhood in general. I love the contast of color and the size of the children in relation to the towering corn stalks, breathtaking!

  68. Tian says:

How to pick just one? My vote goes to #1. Peaceful and innocent. The shadow and lighting is great. Love the black and white.

  69. Linda Fleming says:

I vote for #2 because it is the epitome of childhood excitement. I can see my own children with the exact expression and how I would cherish this photo 20 years later when they were adults.

  70. debbie says:

they are all so lovely, but I since I need to pick only one, it’s #3

  71. Me Ra says:

Oh my goodness! This is going to be a close one!! I can already tell! But aren’t they all just AWESOME!!!

  72. Jenny J. says:

#3 because I’m partial to redheads

  73. Jennifer says:

WOW! Great images, ALL OF THEM! This is really hard, but I have to say image #5! What a shot, makes me smile, and will make GREAT blackmail material later on in life! Nice job!

  74. Kirsten says:

I VOTE FOR NUMBER 3!!!! It is sooo lovely.

  75. Carey says:

    #5
    easy schmeasy

  76. Tami says:

    I vote for finalist #4.

  77. Mari says:

#1! It is such a beautiful photo. I love that it doesn’t look staged. It looks natural. Just two children helping each other along. Yet it has so many different sides and so many different explanations can come from this. Breathtaking.

  78. Shannon says:

I vote for picture number 1. I love the black and white and remember the awe of my children when they were little for the first time in the corn maze. It is overwhelming!

  79. Heather K says:

My vote is for #3. I absolutely love the composition and bright colors on this one. Not to mention the little girl is just way too cute! All are fabulous entries though! :o)

  80. Jill says:

How can I pick just one? They are all very different and appealing. I would have loved to have taken any of these myself! I’ll have to go with No. 3. The angle and the colors speak to me.

  81. #2 It captures the innocence and pure joy a child should have! Beautiful shot plus I’m a sucker for a tom-girl willing to muck in the mud to seek after adventure. What a doll! I love how you filled the frame and captured her motion forward. The image makes me want to reach out and help her carry her pumpkin. Great Job Everyone!

  82. sharon says:

    Look at all these comments!

  83. Brooke B. says:

I vote for #3! I love the vibrant colors, that’s what I think, when I think fall.

  84. Karen says:

    #1 un-posed, I like it.

  85. I vote for #1!

This image has truly captured the moment! It tells a beautiful story.

  86. Molly says:

#1 and #5 are my favorites…but if I had to decide between them, I’d have to say #1.

#1: I love the lighting here. It is an absolutely perfect moment captured with perfect lighting, and is absolutely TIMELESS and could be a freakin’ poster. SO beautiful.

#5: How can you resist the immodesty of childhood? Who’s parents DON’T have a photo of them like this? Timeless in its own right, and I’m a sucker for humor. Great work.

  87. Dennis says:

    Photo #1

I love this photo because of the symbolism it conveys. Young children with a full life ahead. Great Pic.

  88. Airika says:

I really do love them all, but I’m voting for number 4. You can just see the wheels turning in the little boy’s head as he thinks about which pumpkin to put in his wagon next. Oh, the tough decisions in life! 🙂

  89. Jen MacNiven says:

I loved them all, but in sticking with the ‘best’ pumpkin theme…it’s gotta be #5. So cute and so kid! He’s all ready to be a cowboy too which adds to the halloween theme. GREAT shot!

  90. Humm. It’s so hard to choose just one. LOL I have been debating all day; I like each for different reasons. You all just did such a great job! That said, since I can only cast one vote, I’m going to choose finalist one.

What a breathtaking, timeless picture! There are so many reasons I love this picture: I like the lighting, the tones, the way the corn stalks emphasize how small the children are, the story- I see a mom capturing the innocence of two young children, all the while thinking about the mystery of the adventures that lie ahead for them both, the warmth and love it portrays…it’s just the essence of what a timeless picture should be.

  91. Lilianna says:

love #5! it’s close to my heart.
    it made me cry!

  92. Papa & Kimmy Story says:

#5- Prettyest litle pumpkin hiney in the whole wide world:)

  93. Claudia says:

#2 – I love how the mom framed the shot!

  94. Megan says:

I was expecting all pumpkin pictures, so the first one kind of threw a crink in things, although I think the composition of that photo is timeless and beautiful and it does have 2 pumpkins in it, it doesn’t fill the criteria of what the contest started out to be. #5 has Halloween written all over it, sans the costume with all the cuteness, haha. But 2, 3 and 4 say PUMPKIN PATCH! 2’s face is priceless, 3 is pure innocent beauty. But for me #4 does it. The photo tells the story..about the choices, the conflict, you can see his size compared to his surroundings, the splash of sunlight in the background, reminds us the days are getting shorter. You can just tell he is making some serious choices about his pumpkins and that for him right now it’s serious business, but down the road this picture will be the one he pulls out and says I remember this….

  95. Sara says:

These are such wonderful shots! I have to go with number 1 for the winner. It is beautiful.

  96. geleah says:

    #1. Sweet and innocent.

  97. Lori says:

My fav is number 1~ It’s such a great shot.

  98. shena says:

My vote is for #1. I love black n whites. This photo is timeless. There is a softness about it that makes you feel “dreamy”. Fabulous job!

I have to add that all 5 of these photos are awesome. Looove ’em!

  99. Chrystal Tompkins says:

#4! This picture told the real story of picking a pumpkin! It’s truly a hard choice!

  100. Jenny says:

#5 is defintely my selection. It is a tender little boy moment so beautifully captured.

  101. Amy Jo says:

I love #1! I love the mood, the color, the lighting and the story it tells of the two little ones finding their way through a giant corn maze!

  102. Karen Fra says:

LOVE #5 !!!! She captured it all! Innocense, fun, love, season, & joy.

  103. Mamao F Kalepo says:

hello i would definately go with finalist number1, i love mood that it brings just by looking at da picture like seeing one of those black and white films. There is nothing more touching then a picture of two kids.

  104. Jeff says:

#5 is a beautiful moment captured.

  105. L.K. says:

#1 is extraordinary. This picture stands out the most for me. Timeless…

  106. Brooke Kasper says:

Although they were all wonderful, finalist number 1 leaves an imprint in your heart. Gosh where would you even start with what it makes you feel…the endless wonder of it all. They children are so small and the path so endless. It is amazing and moves you! Number 1 is my vote.
Number 5 is halarious and makes you laugh, but definately number 1, the composition is breath taking.!

  107. Kelly says:

#1 – the bend in the far end of the row! Love it!

  108. Sara Goetz says:

I cannot get enough of #5!!! I love it because it is so unplanned and unexpected…I love that you can tell how much the child loves the dog, his cowboy boots, and that it is fall – and the photographer captured it without forcing anything. I LOVE IT!!!

    Sara

  109. Judith says:

My vote is for #2 – gotta love that girl!! Must have been the perfect pumpkin in her eyes.

  110. Amanda Key says:

Finalist 3 has my vote! I love the colors.

  111. Tami says:

NUMBER 1: What a cool photo!! That is the kind of shot I always want to get – but never have! You can just feel the excitement and wonder of those little guys in that huge field.

  112. Had to finally leave my first comment on your site…since these pumpkin photos are all so sweet. But my fav is #2 where the mom/photographer totally captured the candid expression of her little one’s excitement and happiness!

  113. mo mo says:

    I vote for #2!
I really like how happy she is. You can totally tell she is in a pumpkin patch and just picked the perfect pumpkin for herself. I remember those days and how fun it was. I still get excited going to find a pumpkin, but not quite like this little girl. Great picture! Makes you want to go pick a pumpkin! Happy Halloween!

  114. Allie says:

#1!!!!! I absolutely love this picture! The black and white is amazing and it captures all that is fall…BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  115. Sue Christianson says:

I love them all but I am voting for #4. I don’t know all the technical terms on how she got that shot, but it really caught my attention. It is beautiful!

  116. Jason Kadushin says:

    #1
At first glance its got this real innocent feel of siblings walking into a surreal shining corn field. The sun coming through the corn is what really does it for me – an almost Field of Dreams type picture.

  117. NANCY K. says:

#5, WOW! YOU TRULY CAPTURED A MOMENT IN TIME.

  118. Dana Fallentine says:

I vote for finalist #3. The whole setting is magical. I love the vivid colors, this shot encompasses the fantasy of fall time!

  119. Maggie says:

#1 is striking. I love the light, composition and feel of the image.

I do have to say that I am very impressed with all the photos! (#4 was my next fav with the vignetting and the pumpkin colors popping)

  120. s.patel says:

i love them all, but my favourite is #1!

  121. Beth says:

#1!! The photo makes me want to follow the children and see what is around the small curve in the path!

The diversity in all the photos is great!

  122. Kristin says:

love the candidness of #5 – what a joy to capture such a moment…

  123. Stephanie says:

I have to vote for Finalist #1. All the photos are incredible, but this one truly does leave an imprint in your mind. All of the pictures are wonderful, but this one really stands out. The children are enveloped within the stalks and the endlessness of the photo is awesome. I love this picture and because it’s black and white, that just really tops it for me. Thanks Me Ra ofr doing this contest!

  124. Stevie says:

I love # 5, having sons, I know the most important dress of the day are the boots, even if they are way too big! clothing is secondary, just my boots and my best friend!

  125. Kham Beitlers says:

I definitely think #1 picture captures the moment perfectly. It brings a sense of humbleness of life when you look at it. The idea it portrays of how we need each other through life’s hardship, happiness and success. I believe the author of that photo sees the bigger picture then just meets the eye. My vote goes for picture 1# “Hand in Hand”

  126. Jennifer says:

    #5 is so cute!!!!!

  127. Lauren D. says:

My vote is for #5 hands down! Too cute!

  128. Marylou says:

    #5, just adorable and spontaneous.

  129. Felicia says:

#5 has to be the most precious photo ever! Makes me want to be a Moma 😉

  130. Tracy Vogel says:

I have to agree they are all wonderful, but #4 stays with me most. I really like the composition and that wagon. It’s exactly how I would want to remember pumpkin picking with my kids.

So my vote goes to #4. : )

  131. Leah says:

    #5 – precious

  132. Lori says:

My vote is # 3 for originality.. looks like a Halloween Fairy Tale… beautiful!

  133. Laura says:

#5 by far!! The photographer captured such a fun moment around the house, and it just happens to have the pumpkin theme to “boot.”

The cornfield pic is very pretty, but it’s missing the pumpkins for the pumpkin photo contest!?!?

  134. Courtney says:

I have to vote for Finalist # 5. That is the cutest picture I have ever seen. The scene is just adorable. Great snapshot!

  135. Andee says:

#5 is the BEST! I love everything about this picture.

  136. Marisol says:

#5 – Beautiful…a stellar example of capturing the moment, versus creating it. Pumpkins in the first photo?

  137. Laura Muller says:

#5 made me smile and think of my children and how excited they were at Halloween. In my opinion it’s the best.

    Connie

  173. JANIE FREEMAN says:

NUMBER 5, WITHOUT A DOUBT! INNOCENCE AND LOVE PERSONIFIED AND CAPTURED IN ONE GLORIOUS MOMENT.

  174. Kathrine says:

Though I enjoyed all of the photos, I vote for finalist #1. It captures a moment beautifully in such a way I almost feel I am there watching too. The lighting is perfect! And yes as others have said, I can see it as a poster or post card or framed art, in large part because she used black and white.

  175. Harmony says:

    #5 all the way! Hysterical!

  176. Caryn says:

My vote is for #3. Everything about it is perfect, from the colors to the composition. I love the headpiece, she reminds me of an Autumn fairy. The depth of focus is great also.

#1 Wish I had it of my son! “The Road Ahead” Great shot.

  178. JD says:

  182. I vote for #5. What little “Muffins” they all are, but this one “takes the cake!”

  183. Patricia says:

#1 without a doubt. The lighting, the shading, the cornstalks so much taller than the kids, the road leading to…., the awe and inspiration as indicated in all the comments by the viewers in this contest.

  184. Angie says:

I’m voting for #1. (Although I loved all of them). I like that I could frame it and put it in my house, even though it’s not of anyone I know. If I put any other of the photos in my house, I’d have to answer, “Who’s that?” all the time. #1 is more “art” to me than “photograph.”

  185. Camilla says:

I vote for #5. While all the photos are nice and enjoyable, this one has a wow-factor. The tender and unexpected moment the dog and boy are sharing is so beautiful and is something that can never ben posed. This precious boy chose those boots and hat as comfortable attire and probably was carrying the pumpkin around for fun. Who knew he would use it as a chair and invite the dog for lovies?

And the lighting is perfect. Beautiful photo.

  186. Jess says:

My vote is for #1 I love the natural surroundings. It’s a beautiful picture.

I love, love, love number 5! Life with kids can move so fast that it feels crazy, but this photo captures how sweet this time really is. There is also something about a boy, his boots and his dog! Need I say more!

  199. Cris says:

#1 is my choice! I’m a sucker for black and white!

  200. My favorite is #5, because of the originality it shows of the love of a boy for his dog under any circumstances.

  201. T.G. says:

Superb job by each of you! How elated you must be to be honored as a finalist, and how fortunate you must feel to be so gifted.

Each picture conjured up special feelings in all the viewers. It was obvious most of us picked our favorites by reacting to our life’s experiences.

Personally, I’m particularly moved by numbers 1,3 and 5. Number one, though absolutely stunning, has nary a pumpkin in it. (Wasn’t that the subject of the contest?) I love the contrasts of color in number three; but my reaction hit its zenith on the last photo. I cast my lot on number 5.

  202. peggy drogo says:

This photo brings back memories of our children at their young ages, when they were so loving and innocent. Great work.

  203. peggy drogo says:

vote for number 5. This photo brings back memories of our children at their young ages, when they were so loving and innocent. Great work.

  204. frankie giamona says:

i vote for number 5. it captures the innocence between a child and his pet. it’s very moving.

  205. Megan Block says:

They are all beautiful in thier own right but #4 is my favorite because of the color and composition, but also for the peaceful feeling I get when looking at this photo that captures the simplicity of a child’s world.

  206. Greg says:

    #5 Hands down!!

  207. L T Story says:

I am so moved. As a mother of 3 very young boys, it has taken a lot for me to start photographing. I never expected to see my son and his puppy among the finalists in image #5. The other finalists are so talented and their images are so beautiful. My heart goes out to everyone who took the time to vote for, not only me, but for the other mothers with a passion to capture life. You are truly blessings in our lives. Thank you.

  208. PatRock says:

I’m voting for photo number 1, because it’s in black and white…and I’m colorblind. Plus, it has corn stalks in it… I mean, C’mon!

  209. TJ says:

I vote for finalist #1. I love this picture because it has a natural feeling to it. The seemingly endless row of cornstalks contrasted to the toddlers size. It makes you wonder what is going through their heads as they walk down a path way with giant cornstalks high above their heads. This picture also gives off a feel of adventure and mystery that I find attracting. This picture really caught my eye and made me think.

  210. Alex says:

#1 Certainly takes claim to my vote. The photo is gorgeous, and holds a meaning that transcends its magnificent lighting and raw artistic appeal. It is a marvelous scenario these children are placed in, the obstacle of an infinite path and the intimidation of unspeaking giants present a storybook scene that is hauntingly beautiful. None of this matters, the children find strength in their companionship, it is not the towering vegetation they gaze at, nor the ground that would welcome any coward’s gaze, they look to the horizon, and their further adventures that lie beyond this time and place.

  211. Mary Grace says:

All the pictures are wonderful. I like no# 5 because it’s creative. #4 the way this was shot and the big tree is faded in the background and the boy’s green shirt stands out. #3 is unique and truly captures the autumn color. #4 is too cute and you can see the joy from her eyes. #1 is picture perfect. I saw a comment that says #1 picture doesn’t fill the criteria of what the contest started out to be. Well if you go back to the blog where the contest if originally posted you will can see that one of the samples picture is Brian and Blaze wondering through to cornmaze and no pumpkin at all…so with that said, I have to say #1 has my vote. Beautiful eye mom! I would love to have a picture of my kids just like yours.

  212. Michele says:

I love all the pictures, they are all beautiful, wonderful and so unique. It was very hard to choose. I can’t imagine how hard it was for you to narrow it down to the 5 finalist. 🙂

My vote is for finalist #2. Love the compostion. Love the excitement that the shot captured.

  213. Judy says:

I vote for finalist #3, what a beautiful child, and I love the autumn feel in the composition.

  214. Shauna Tucker says:

    definitely number 5. Absolutely Adorable!

  215. Erin Rich says:

Definitely Number 5. What a great Picture!!

  216. Rita Tuthill says:

I vote for #1, It’s so natural & inviting to visit the little one’s world with the tall plants surrounding them as they plod along their way on an exciting adventure. I think even the curving of their little pants accentuates the photo well with all the curvy plant leaves, a winner for sure!

  217. tim alcott says:

I vote for #5. Cute picture. I like #1 second best.

  218. Casey Roby says:

#5 is by far the most adorable one! Boys will be boys.

  219. M says:

Finalist #1. Love the texture, artistic feel, and feeling…..

  221. Crystal Goss says:

    #5 is toooo cute!

  225. Sonya Dean says:

Absolutely amazing pictures. I love finalist #1. This picture is a piece of art. I’m sure the children in the photograph will appreciate this when they grow up. amazing shot, i would love to have a picture of my two kiddo’s just like this.

  226. Audrey says:

I vote for #1 because it’s a black & white photo but you can still see that the sun is shining.

#1 gets my vote. Because it’s in B&W it could have been a picture taken when I was a child which, of course, brings back fond memories.

  228. Erika says:

#5 is so cute and will make for many laughs at his wedding rehearsal dinner!

  233. dick jergens says:

photo comp is really good.. Picture is timeless.

  234. Di says:

Wow, such great pic’s they are all very good but after looking long at every one I have to say although they are cute I have seen #2 and #4 in everyones scrapbook same pic different child. #3 and #5 look staged something you would see in a studio looks setup or planned. I have to say #1 took my breath away it just makes you stare at it and think about the surroundings and the children trying to help each other along the path it grabs you and takes you into the picture as you try and figure out the story behind the shot almost like you wish you were there listening. I have to vote for #1 very unique and once in a life time shot!

  235. alex says:

#4 is a very well done shot. The others are great shots as well, but #4 looks natural.

  236. Cat says:

Both #1 and #4 are both great shots. #4 looks to be a much sharper photo and better colors. Just has overall better composition. They are all great shots but from a photographer’s view, my vote has to go to #4.

  237. Laura Emma. says:

#5. The theme is perfect: love and innocence. The depth, color and brilliancy of the photo are tops. I love it.

  238. Terri says:

#5 of course. What a great moment

  239. Terri says:

#5 of course. What a great moment.

  240. Lola says:

wow! I wish i knew about the contest before it ended. I’m hoping that can still win with this entry. I love #1. I’m a mother of boy and girl and if this was me, I would cherish this picture forever. Great job mom!

way to go finalist #1. I love how this mom compost this photograph. I’m in awe with the beauty and simplicity. I appreciate the direction of movement and balance. This is a perfect picture.

  247. teresita says:

    voting for finalist 1

  248. Emily says:

I’ve been debating for two days but I guess it’s time to make a choice. I love the colors in picture 4 and the little girls face in 2 is pricless but I will have to go with finalist #1 I just love the overall feel of it.

  249. Lizzie says:

I like the composition of #1 best.

  250. ricka says:

Awesome shots!!!! Hard to pick but I’m going for #4. It just looks real.

  251. jill says:

I agree with Tracy, the composition in #4 is right on.

    #4 for me too.

  252. Sue Christianson says:

I am voting again! LOL!! 🙂 I really couldn’t make up my mind before. They are all soooo great. How about #1 this time. It is an amazing picture in black & white of the cornstalks and the kids even look curious from the back as they are walking through the maze! You can just imaging their expressions. Love it!

    gret shot!

It reminds her that the its big world out there and sometimes we never know where we are heading in life but we will always have those friends who will guide is to the right way. Thank you finalist #1 for capturing this moment.

  262. Alba says:

I’m not sure if this contest is over but I love…love..love, finalist #1. You have a grea eye! You truly captured a special moment here. The contrast and framing is perfect. It’s mysterious in way since you can’t see the little kiddo’s faces.

  263. Joemarie A says:

I would like to vote for picture#1. I almost feel like I’m in the picture and I can sense the kid’s excitement at they began to walk. The lighting is perfect. It’s a great picture capturing the autumn season.

  264. Suella Perry says:

oh my! I looked at the pictures 10 or more times. It’s so hard so it was between 1 & 4 for me. But I have to pick only one so I it would have to be #1. I was just at the pumpkin patch with my children and remember when they were running around the maze. I never thought of taking pictures while in the maze so this one is one of a kind.
