En Route to Thailand!

Me Ra Koh

How do you dress when your going to spend two months in the jungles of Thailand?

A pair of shorts, one light sweatshirt for the whole trip, Tevas for the kids and Chacos for me and Brian. (These are only shoes for the whole trip!)

What do you pack?

Two big backpacks that fits all our clothes, swimsuits and toiletries, a small back pack on each kid for their toys and blankie, one bag that has a “heck of a lot” of camera gear, and one more bag of all our homeschool stuff! Are you impressed! We didn’t check a single thing!

After an eleven hour flight, we are now in Seoul, Korea. The kids didn’t sleep a wink. It’s 2am for us, but daylight outside. So you guessed it, the kids are running EVERY WHERE with TONS of ENDLESS energy!

Already, this trip has turned into an adventure, and we’re only half way to Thailand! My favorite part so far is when we boarded the plane in Seattle, and I started my period. (sorry boys, close your ears if you must–this woman needs to rant!)

Now ladies, I ask you…Why ON EARTH, would I start my period a week early, and of all times, start as I’m getting on the plane with a hurking, huge backpack on me, a #@$ load of homeschool books in tow behind me and two kids who keep dropping fries throughout the plane? Why on earth, would life think this is a good time to start my period! Ladies, help me out here!

But aside from that surprise, the flight was pretty amazing. Kids did awesome. Asiana Airlines has the most room I have ever seen! We had a row of six seats to ourselves to spread out. Pascaline figured every part of the TV, movies and games there was to figure out.

It was awesome.

We have a short layover in Korea, and the kids are so excited to just be in KOREA–where papa is from! We won’t be able to leave the airport, but they are mesmerized with their roots by seeing Koreans everywhere! And we got to order fresh kim-bap (Korean style sushi) which was actually my treat more than any thing. πŸ™‚

In about an hour we board our next flight and head to Bangkok. We’ll arrive in Bangkok at midnight, and I have no idea what it will be our time. πŸ™‚ We’ll sleep in a hotel near the airport and then Monday morning, wake up and get on our last plane to go south–we will have been traveling since Saturday! Isn’t that crazy? Then we find a long tail boat and make the 30-40 minute boat ride to our home for the next two months! Can’t wait to have photos up on the blog of our little Thai style jungle house!

This last pic’ is for grammie! Blazey finally wanted to get his haircut this last week. Still grieving a little. Yep, his shirt says “lover boy”. He wanted to get that shirt b/c he said he’s my lover boy. πŸ™‚

Okay, we’re boarding!

p.s. Mom, we made it safe to Korea and the kids all say hi to you and papa! They are so excited to be in Korea! You would crack up at the energy that is giving them! Shae, sorry I didn’t call you back in time, I’m a BAD sister! πŸ™‚

sounds like a great trip! we were just in phuket a couple weeks ago and loved it.

  2. Addie says:

Maybe the period is a reverse sympathy pain thing?….you know, like nature’s way of giving “sympathy pains” to Brian for the big V? Nature has quite a “sense of humor” sometimes! At any rate, I feel for you, Me Ra. And I admire you both so much for taking off and taking your children on this great life adventure! What a beautiful family journey! Stay safe and ejoy every wonderful moment!

  3. lora says:

ooh! I love the kids haircuts, they look so much more grown up now then in the other pics I’ve seen! πŸ™‚ Tell Pascaline she looks super stylish with her cute bob!!! I”m so excited for you guys! Can’t wait to see pics of where you’re staying! πŸ™‚ Sorry about your period Mera, that stinks! What terrible timing! Looking forward to more blog posts with all of your adventures!

  4. I am in awe that you went away for 2 months with 2 children, a school, and a photography business and you didn’t check one bag! Whoa! I can’t wait to follow your adventures, and you inspire me to create my own adventures, no matter what the circumstance. I really love the children’s haircuts, it showcases their beautiful God-given features :D. I must say Pascaline looks so grown up! It reminds me of my oldest baby girl. All of a sudden one haircut and it’s like they’ve entered a new phase of girlhood. I think that it’s also just a really beautiful photo. Safe travels and I hope you packed some Midol!
    xoxo

Two months in Thailand in a jungle house sounds absolutely wonderful to me! I cannot wait to see pictures. LOVE the kids haircuts. Pasculine looks like she is 15! Blaze.. well Blaze just looks cute as ever with those big beautiful eyes!

Your packing is AMAZING! I can’t wait to see pics of your trip! How awesome πŸ™‚ I hope that one day I will be able to visit Korea as it’s my birthplace….get back in touch with my roots. Have an amazing and fantastic time! Take care of yourselves, as I still want to meet you healthy and well. πŸ™‚

  20. Michelle says:

I am SO jealous that you get to eat Kim Bap! I love the stuff and haven’t found anything local to me that sells it yet. =( My hubby (the 1/2 korean) laughs because I call it “king of pop”! =)

As for the period…well….that happens to me every vacation so I feel your pain, sistah!

Blaze’s haircut is adorable and I’m sure it was hard for you because the short hair doesn’t give them that “baby look” anymore! =(

Have a great time and I can’t wait to live vicarously through you when I read the blog!

  21. You are all so cute! Enjoy this time in Thailand. You all deserve it. I was so happy to see your smiling faces at wppi. You bless me so!!!!

    oxxoxo

    ~ Dawn

  22. Love the haircuts too!!
You packed a whole suitcase for “homeschool”?? Me thinks jungle living in Thailand will be enough!!! πŸ˜‰

Have a blast!!!!!!!!! I am inspired.
