Seattle Photography Workshop for Women: Before and After

Me Ra Koh

“What! We’re going to learn how to meter and shoot in Manual??!!” said the Seattle Workshop Ladies.

BEFORE…the terror…

Seattle Photography Workshop for Women

As Tonya said, “That’s it? That’s how you meter? You could have called and explained that to me over the phone.”

AFTER…the relief and empowerment…:)

Seattle Photography Workshop for Women

Brian and I love all you ladies! Thanks for a crazy fun, powerful weekend!

xoxo,

Me Ra and Brian

p.s. We’ll do a post soon of what the ladies captured during the live shoots! We are SUPER proud of them! And stay tuned for the announcement of a new workshop!

Wow – what a great post about our weekend! See Me Ra – here is my comment! I was truly scared when you (or anybody) would say the “M” word – but now I know how to use Manual and I feel strong. The weekend was much more emotional for me than I ever thought! Thanks so much!

I just noticed Brian’s pose in the 2nd picture. I can’t stop laughing! =) It has reminded me of all the laughs from the weekend! My stomach was hurting by night one! =)

  10. Jen W. says:

Oh my God, you guys! I have to finish writing a stupid paper for grad school by midnight and all I want to do is TAKE PICTURES!!!!!! Seriously! I haven’t even been able to look at my shots from the Sunday yet! It sucks to be so incredibly inspired and go back to something that just . . . well, isn’t inspiring 🙂

I miss you ladies like crazy. Please send good paper vibes, Seattle Sistahs.

    Also, Hip hip, Hooray!

  11. Jen C says:

Here goes my first comment ever…deep breath! What a great way to spend a weekend…in the comfort of a group of wonderful ladies (and Brian:-) learning, sharing, and inspiring each other to push past our fears and embrace our dreams. A big thank you to each and every one of you (MeRa and Brian especially) for the experience of a lifetime!

    Hip Hip Hooray!

    Seattle Sista, Out!

  12. Tonya says:

I hope this isn’t my 15 minutes of fame… The weekend went from “The Ring” to “The Notebook” – tears included. Thank you Brian and Me Ra, I hope to see you both soon.

  13. Tacey says:

Ok, I had over 9 hours on my way home today and I STILL couldn’t process all the magic of this weekend….I cannot find the words to describe my sense of admiration and respect for both MeRa and Brian. Not just for where you both are today, but for where you both have been. You two define inspiration.

And LADIES…You all ‘Wow’ me. I am in awe of your stories, your passion, your fortitude, your authenticity…I’ve learned so much from you all.

I’m DYING to see our photos…

    Much love…

  14. Melinda says:

I’m with you Tacey, I still don’t have words to express how much I appreciate this weekend. I feel so centered, so in touch with my being, and so in love with photography. I am an artist! I’ve never said that before this weekend. Thank you all. Thank you, Me Ra and Brian for reminding me how to bloom. To quote Dr. Seuss: “Oh, the places we’ll go.” Hip Hip Hooray!!

  15. Jessica says:

What?? You were in Seattle?! Arrgh! I missed ya! Next time I guess…Im sure I would have had Loads of fun!

  16. Me Ra Koh says:

Brian and I have taken a day of rest today with the kids. And I can’t tell you how much all your comments have blessed us. As your comments come into my Blackberry throughout the day, it’s been like little gifts with bows! The bows lady, your words are like the bows to my heart.

And Melinda, you, YOU MISSY, brought me to tears when you said “I am an artist!”

Yes, you are my dear! Yes, you ALL are!

  17. Erika says:

HA! Love these photos! So fun! Thank you for reminding me to believe in my passions and most importantly MYSELF! Another BIG hug to you both and all the Seattle Sistas!! 🙂

  18. amy little says:

i wish that I could put into words how this weekend has changed me. not only do i feel more confident about my abilities with a camera, but i actually came home with a different laugh. a full, from my belly, laugh. it’s like i have been able to tap into this little girl that has been wrapped in strings of stress and was finally able to release her.

in addition to all the fantastic photography techniques you taught me, you seemed to reach into my soul and push ME to the front. not me as Amy the mom, Amy the wife, sister, friend, but Amy the woman. a creative, thoughtful, powerful woman. I now feel that the world is mine for the taking.

thank you for pointing me in a new, and beautiful direction so i can realize my dreams.

I have been spoiled and fulfilled.

thank you for your selflessness and your inspiring examples.

    WAHOO!

  19. Pamela S. says:

Empowerment is SERIOUSLY the correct word! (Chicago, ’08) You are spreading a lot of it & there are some pretty wonderful photographers rising out of the masses. You must feel so proud.

  20. Katie J says:

What an amazing trip! I haven’t gotten home yet (tomorrow!), but I know that once I finally arrive, the weight of the experience will start to settle in. I have never spent so much time in airports and on flights. Yet, I know that I have also never taken a trip so worth all the sacrifices. I am still in shock that I can use manual. You really did make it user friendly.

I can’t wait to see what everyone saw and captured!
