A Black Formal Dress with White Sneakers Means…

This woman not only has style but is ready to go! Meet our latest Rising Phoenix, Terri Paterson, a woman who gives her all!

In 2019, she won both the Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards in Frisco! If you know Terri, you know she has a heart of gold and lives to serve others! This was the gorgeous black formal dress she wore for the award reception.

The white sneakers were a special addition for her Phoenix Experience, capturing who she really is!

Fast forward a couple years, Terri attended a Frisco Arts event where I got to share my story and receive the Ladies Who Launch Resilience Grant. To add a little extra celebration to our evening, I taped FIORIA Gift Certificates underneath one chair at each table. Terri was one of those winners!

She decided to put her gift certificate towards a Portrait of a Phoenix Experience. Our Discovery Calls began to uncover the rising phoenix within Terri!

You Got This Girl! Go Flourish!

When I did Terri’s Discovery Call, she shared how she wants to be reminded of who she really is. For her eyes to reflect that energy and joy that says “You got this girl! Go flourish!” We installed her wall art a few days ago, and she says seeing it brings her so much JOY–being greeted by that happiness every morning!

How motivating, right?! To see who you really are, your best self, your RESILIENCE! And for Terri that’s wrapped in a black formal dress with white sneakers. You got this girl! Go flourish!!

What Her Dad Said

I had the most beautiful call with her dad. He LOVES his girl. I asked him what he never wants Terri to forget about herself. He said “That she would carry on with the confidence she’s developed these last twenty years. That determination and heart that inspires everyone around her.” Such powerful words of exhortation from a dad!

Her dad also told me about a couple memories from when Terri was in 2nd grade. Potent, powerful moments that decades later still stick out to him. Her dad remembers looking in the backyard and “Terri had rounded up all the neighborhood kids to follow her. They were all having a ball! I don’t know how she does it, but she attracts and gives to all types of people.”

I’ve talked to a lot of dads, and the love that Terri’s dad has for her was so moving. I hung up the phone and cried. I can’t quite explain it but to say it was such a honor to hear him tell me about his beautiful daughter.

What Her 20 yr old Son said…

The call with Terri’s son was also POWERFUL. Our team takes time to do these Discovery Calls before the photo shoot because we don’t want to just capture a pretty picture. We want to capture what is meaningful, and reflect back to you how loved ones and even storms shape your resilience–your rising phoenix. This is a big part of your Phoenix Experience.

Her son said he loves his mom’s ability to connect with anyone, no matter who they are, never judging but genuinely caring about each person. “She can put a smile on anyone’s face. Her words match her facial expressions. When she decides to invest in a project or person, my mom gives them her all. And I think it’s the best way to go about it.”

I asked him what his mom has taught him that has shaped who he is.

His answer blew me away.

“My mom has helped me realize that no matter how happy I try to be or make myself, my deepest, true joy has always come from helping others. She has modeled this my whole life, and now I’m seeing how true and powerful it is.”

Before Ginger started Terri’s Hair & Makeup, I shared these words with her. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the studio. What more could a mom want to teach her adult son?

What Her Husband Said

“I love her loyalty to family and friends. The ways she listens to people. Her energy! The investment of time she makes in people’s lives to earn a voice and say things packaged in love and honesty. Encouraging people is not always easy to do. But she has the inner strength to speak truth,” said Joey.

“Reminds Me of My Mom”…

When I talked with Terri, she said that one of the things she loves most about herself is her sense of humor–“that belly laugh that is just REAL! It gives good energy to me and others.” We made sure to capture that specifically! Isn’t she stunning?! This is definitely a favorite with her gorgeous black formal dress and white sneakers!

During her Cinematic Reveal, she was blown away at how much her belly laugh reminded her of her mom. It’s the beauty of her mom’s big laugh that Terri has always loved. Seeing this in her home office somehow magically, wonderfully makes her mom feel that much closer.

Kristina Overcame Cancer

Meet beautiful Kristina who overcame cancer! Even though she was thankful to have defeated this enemy, she struggled with seeing the scar that remained. The Phoenix Portrait Experience allowed her to celebrate not only the healing but also embrace this scar. Now every morning Kristina wakes up to see that brave, powerful woman on her bedroom wall.
