12 Types of Magical Light for Photos

Me Ra Koh

3. Rim Light

Pascaline was almost five years old and loved to wear princess skirts and dresses.  Around 10am, the morning sun would spill into our French door.  Pascaline was already dancing around me, so I grabbed my camera and asked her to dance in front of the door.  I didn’t want her to be a silhouette.  Instead, I wanted to capture that magical light for photos called Rim Light.  This is when the light is behind someone, and it outlines their body with a gold glow.

I am metering on Pascaline’s face to get the right amount of light.  Unsure about metering?  Join us each June for our annual online class!  I teach you how to meter in the Magical Light course!  (It’s WAY easier than you’d ever imagine!)
